 The Barrett-Jackson Inaugural Car Show, Showcasing a Gorgeous Pair of 2019 Ford GT’s, 1979 Porsche 928, 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350, 1988 BMW M3 and so much more… | #476 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:26

Joining Alan this week is Steven Cole Smith – Automotive Journalist for Autoweek, Automobile Magazine, Grassroots Motorsports.  The duo shed more light on the shortage of semiconductor chips that will cause about 1,000,000 plus cars to not be made.  Steven got to drive the new 2022 Nissan Frontier with a 3.8-liter V6, 310 Horsepower with a towing capability 6720 pounds.   Next Alan welcomes BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason.   BJ shares more chip news and says Ford has built many of the F series but can’t sell because there are no chips. She shares that GM is trying to get a jump on the F series by re-starting production on the full-size trucks instead of the crossovers and midsize.  Alan says people really must examine to see what kind of trucks they really need.  They discuss the insane prices of the cars.  BJ says anyone in the market looking for a car is screwed.  The dealers are marking up used cars to make up for revenue loss.  BJ explains that dealerships who gouge the consumer will lose that consumer when things get up and running again.  Alan will be in Houston, Texas next week for the Barrett-Jackson Car show and says classic cars are money in the bank.  BJ says she loves quirky cars and hints to Alan her want of a 1958 Nash Metropolitan Convertible. Up next is Craig Jackson – Chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson Auction Company.  Craig shares that the Barrett-Jackson Inaugural Auction will be it’s first time coming to Houston. It will be held at the NRG Center. Alan inquires about any mandates and Craig explains there is no mask mandate, to just be cautious and do the right thing.  Craig goes on to say that its so much more than the cars, but it’s a marketplace where all the exhibitors to show their best stuff and taking hot laps on the performance track. The headliner is a pair of 2019 Ford GT’s.  There is also a trio of Ford GT’s 05-06, along with a 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350 which was once owned by Stirling Moss and a 1988 BMW M3, which was previously owned by Fast and Furious star Paul Walker.  All the cars that are being showcased are being bid on or sold with no reserves.  Craig says Barrett-Jackson is all about making sure it’s representation of the cars are on par.   Alan said one thing about the old classic cars are great investments.  No chips and you can still work on your own car.  Craig says buy what you want and make sure you understand what you are buying.  He believes we are at a crossroads where they are still making the greatest petroleum-based cars now.  It’s also at the end of the era in stick shifts, while everything has gone to double clutch or automatics, to hybrids and pure electric cars.  Car collecting is evolving, says Craig.  The core of Barrett-Jackson is ethics, integrity, and transparency while having a fun environment for car lovers and just living life.  Car collecting is a great melting pot to bring people together.  Rounding the corner and pulling in next is Lauren Fix – Editor in-Chief for Car Coach Reports.   She joins us from the racetrack as she is testing out her 2000 Jaguar, that was the Trans American championship car. Both Alan and Lauren say, provenance, or the history behind the car is a plus when buying or selling.  Alan and Lauren talk about the SEMA & AAPEX show coming up in November. They discuss the possible mandates set in place in regards to covid which she feels is why a lot of the suppliers are pulling out. However there will still be a ton of cars at the show  Next they talk about “flood cars”.  Lauren says the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) or CARFAX will have a list of flood damaged cars. These are totaled cars that salvage yards try to “title wash” by moving them from state ...

Pump your brakes and settle in as Alan brings you another super charged show. This week he welcomes Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member. Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com and Executive Publisher at CarExpert.com. Karl shares how I See Cars. com has done a study that will blow your minds, on how you can buy out your lease, sell it and make big money.  Karl explains how a lease is basically consumer paying for the depreciation of the car.  Most cases if you have a lease ending in the next few months, you will be able to buy it out and make big money.  Karl throws in a curve and talks about a beautiful first of its kind, Maserati MC20, an Italian high-performance sports car that he saw at Pebble Beach.   He goes on to share that he got to drive the new Ford Bronco. The 4-door and then the 2-door model and felt he could own one.  He also drove a classic vintage Ford Bronco that has been modernized for about $400K.  The vintage shell was put on a brand-new Art Morrison chassis, with Currie differentials, an all-new suspension, Brembo brakes system, and a brand-new Coyote 5-liter fuel injection engine with a 5-speed automatic. What a beauty. Burning the tracks and bringing the heat next is George Kennedy III – Co-founder of Cartender and Freelance Automotive Journalist for CarGurus, Boston Globe, and U.S. News & World Report. Alan inquires about the Lime Rock Vintage race.  George explains that every Labor Day weekend they do a vintage race.   George shares more about the Lime Rock Vintage Race and shares that there is no racing on Sunday because it becomes the Concours in the Park where the track is lined with collector vintage cars for everyone to see then its back to racing on Monday.  Alan shifts gears and asks George his opinion about the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder.  George says it’s a family SUV similar to a Honda Highlander.  3.5 Liter V6 that handles well.  They talk about the tech that now comes with the new cars and how sometimes it’s too much.  Alan feels that Nissan kind of got off track with this one.  Dan Sandberg – President and CEO of Brembo Brakes North America joins the conversation as he and Alan talk about his friend going to Barret-Jackson to auction off a car. They both say how nice it is that car shows are starting to happen again. Dan talks about how Brembo is doing a massive overhaul to the company from the high-performance brake kits to their newly upgraded program. Brembo is also introducing a racetrack kit called the Pista program. Alan talks about how someone tried to sell him knockoff Brembo parts and Dan says you can verify if they are truly Brembo parts by scanning the QR code with your phone. Closing in and bringing up the rear is Harvey Briggs – Editor and Publisher for Rides and Drive. They talk about the new Infiniti QX55 that they both got to test drive for 24 hours. They say that the car made a great first impression because of how sleek and sexy it looks. Harvey sheds a little light about an variable compression engine that will give you good gas mileage when you drive normally but have the ability to switch over and give you a boost when you need some speed.  Lastly, Mr. Briggs shares how he got to drive a Rolls Royce for a bit in celebration of his book, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars: Making a Legend.  [00:00:00] – It Will Blow Your Mind![00:05:22] – First of it’s Kind![00:12:34] – $400k Vintage Bronco [00:19:56] – Bucolic!  The Bold, Volvo XC40 and The Beautiful, Genesis GV80 Luxury Crossover SUV, along with Ford’s New Bronco | #474 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:17

Welcome Back! This week Alan starts his show with BJ Killeen Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason. They jump right onto the topic of used car prices being at an all time high. Due to the chip shortage, dealerships can’t fill the lots with new inventory. BJ shares for example that it takes an average of 1100 chips per F150. Wow! Volvo and Toyota have cut production by 60% because of this shortage.  BJ Killeen got to ride in a Ford F150 Lightning. She says it’s beyond amazing. 775 pounds of torque. It’s mind blowing how fast this vehicle is off the line! Ford went from 40,000 models to 80,000 to keep up with the demand. This truck can power your house from its “Frunk”.  BJ and Alan talk about the new Genesis GV60 Electric SUV.  Alan shares he was picked up in a Genesis GV80 and thought it was a Cadillac. Shifting gears, Alan welcomes Brian Moody – Executive Editor for Autotrader.com. Alan and Brian talk about current average used car market and prices that will blow your mind. People are paying 5 to 17% over the sticker price depending on what vehicle they are looking for. The highest is the luxury cars like the Mercedes Benz G Wagon at 17% to Kia’s Telluride or the Carnival @ 8%, and the list goes on from Hyundai Palisade, Honda Ridgeline, Land Rover Defender, to the Cadillac Escalade.  Alan says the dealerships have a wide array of used cars on their lots and very little of new. Brian say’s the used car list price over $25,101. Brian explains how dealerships usually have “60 day supplies” which means they have enough stock to sell for 60 days without receiving new stock. Now everyone wants a used car so the “day supplies” are a lot shorter. Even for cars like the Kia Carnival, Kia Telluride, and Hyundai Palisade, these are ones you would never go out to buy over MSRP price but now you are. Brian shares that Volvo says if you buy one of their electric vehicles, specifically the SUVs like a Volvo XC40 they will give you free charging. Well free for a limited time that is. They are partnering with Electrify America which is owned by Volkswagen. They are joining forces to have people buy their electric vehicles. Alan brings up a point about the availability of charging stations/refueling stations and how long it takes to refuel with gas vs charging your vehicle for 5 to 8 hours. Brian agrees and says it’s the Achilles heel to electric vehicles. Tesla has equipped their charging stations with a “supercharger” that will take about 15 mins for about an 80% recharge. Brian claims hydrogen engines are the way to go and will be the solution to this situation to where it will take about 5 mins to refuel. Alan brings up Pebble Beach and how much fun he had. He talks about the exotic cars that were there. It made him think about the “collector car” parts which brings him to his next guest Chris Bright – Co-Founder of CollectorPartExchange.com. Chris explains why he got started in this business, and its because he owned a Porsche 928 and needed parts. Chris goes on to say that If you have collectors car, use them on a daily basis, instead of letting it sit there and deteriorate. Alan shares his story of how he became a car enthusiast. He said he bought a wrecking yard for 5k at the age of 24 and it changed his life. It helped him learn how to do business and become an entrepreneur. Alan asked what is it that they do at Collector Parts Exchange.com. Chris explains that it gives a platform to find “New Old Stock” or used parts for collectors and that it has now become the backbone to the collector’s car industry. Why is it called an ‘Exchange’?  They don’t go and buy inventory he explains. They provide a marketplace for suppliers and or individuals who have collector parts and they list them. If you’re looking for a rare or hard part, you can do a search out or a “parts ping” to go out to the car community. They take 5% of the sale.

Monterey Car Show 2021: Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider, Lamborghini Countach, BUGATTI Bolide, Lucid Air “Dream Edition” Sedan, 1901 Columbia Mark XXXI Victoria Phaeton, 1908 Bailey Electric Victoria Phaeton, and more… | #473 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:16

Another show stopping, jaw dropping, electrifying week as Alan dedicates this weeks episode to the 2021 Monterey Car Show at the Concours.  From the very first electric automobile to space aged just short of the “Jetsons” automobile.  Joining Alan first is Ed Justice Jr. – Justice Brothers, Inc. President and CEO. Ed who also emceed at the Carmel by the Sea Concours on the Avenue talks with Alan about the protocols regarding covid at the event.  If you had proof that you took your shot, you were given a blue arm band to wear, if you did not take the vaccine then you were asked to wear a mask. Ed explains how difficult it is to judge cars.  You can’t prejudge things, got to go through the process from checking under the hood to finding the story behind the restoration.  Amazing cars like a 1901 Columbia Mark XXXI Victoria Phaeton Electric Car.  Ed says one of the things that was different this year at the event was the fact that it was free to get in.  Ed says he spoke to a lot of people and received a lot of positive feedback saying the Concours on the Avenue was their favorite event. From a safe environment to being laid-back, high-end stores to gift shops.  There’s something for everybody.  Ed says Monterey Car week has turned into such a huge event, that you can’t do it all.  Alan shares that he and his wife Jan went to Pebble Beach when it was still dark to be a part of the “Dawn Patrol”, to catch the cars as they come rumbling in.  Next on Alans’s show is George Kennedy III – Co-founder of Cartender and Freelance Automotive Journalist for CarGurus, Boston Globe, and U.S. News & World Report. George talks about the Larz Anderson Auto Museum electric vehicles, one being the 1908 Bailey Electric Victoria Phaeton.  Preserved and unrestored. George attended the Tutto Italiano (Everything Italian), crown jewel of the summer series of lawn events in car shows at Larz Anderson.  All Italian cars. Ferrari, Lamborghini to Fiat Dinos. The New York Auto show that was canceled is their next topic.  George says canceling the show is not stopping the car makers from debuting their new cars online. Up next with Alan is Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member. Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com and Executive Publisher at CarExpert.com.  More of the Monterey Car Week conversation.  Karl and Alan talk about Christian Von Koenigsegg CEO of a high-end limited production brand automaker, who was there at Pebble Beach.  He was showing off his car the Gemera, Swedish for “More, or offering more” …2 door but 4-seater, 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds with a top speed of 250 mph. Alan quickly drops in with the fact that the Hennessey Venom F5, does a cool 300mph.  Karl was there to see the Acura reception for the Acura NSX Type S, they announced 2022 will be their last year for the NSX.  They also said they are bringing back the Integra. Back to the New York Auto Show being canceled yet still happening, virtually that is like Nissan revealing its New Z car.  Alan and Karl switch over to one of Alan’s favorites, the Aston Martin. Karl spoke with Tobias Moers who used to run AMG, now CEO and CTO of Aston Martin. They showed their Valkyrie Spider convertible with 1140 horsepower, V12, and a hybrid drivetrain.  Only 85 will be made and that’s it.  Karl loved the new Lamborghini Countach.  All the performance, capability, and technology of the modern supercars yet kept the Countach look.  Only 112 made and all spoken for.  Karl drove Ford’s new GT over the weekend as well. They discus Stephen Winklmann, he introduced the new Countach and the BUGATTI Bolide. This crazy car, it’s not street legal.  A skeletal body to make it lighter.   1578 horsepower, pulling 3200lbs @ $4.8 million dollars.  Only 40 are made.  Frank Heyl, head designer of Boulghadi walked around with Karl at the event.

Back To The Future: Parnelli Jones Mustang, Bob Nordskog Datsun 240Z, 2002 Thunderbird and 2005 SRT 10 Viper Truck | #472 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:17

As promised another exciting week as Alan welcomes back Dick Messer – Classic car expert and Executive Director at the Peterson Museum. With using autohunter.com and sending a link to Richard Rawlings from Fast and Loud and Gas Monkey Garage who shared it on his social media platform with 4.5 million followers and 2.5 hours later 10,000 views, Alan informs us that he sold his Shelby GT500 for a comfortable 115k. Alan inquires with Messer about the sale of his Parnelli Jones Mustang.  Messer shares that he used the same auto sites as Alan to help with his sale.  Alan shared how the gentleman who purchased the gem was sitting in the waiting room at a Ford Dealership browsing his phone looking at mustangs and Google popped up Alans GT500 and decided to bid on it twice.  This non-collector didn’t care about all the bells and whistles that this single digit serial number beauty had to offer, he just wanted to drive it. Alan and Messer continue about their car collection and plans for them.  Alan’s deep interest in Messer’s Bob Nordskog Datsun 240z car with a converted 350 Chevy engine got crushed when finding out it was sold.  However, Messer explains that collecting so many cars you end up not driving them all and as it sits, things corrode and deteriorate.  Then when you go to sell them, what wasn’t a problem before is now a problem.  Alan shared about his Dodge Viper ACR and his decision to put it on classiccars.com and were able to drop it for $136k. Both men share how much they miss the cars that they sell.  But it’s a lot of work, maintenance and money to keep them up.  Alan shares how he inherited a 2002 Thunderbird and says as he took it for a drive, issues that arose were obviously from it sitting too long without being driven.   The duo change gears and switch topics and talk about the car culture of Florida.  Messer says it’s better than California.  One of the reasons for Florida being a hot bed for car collectors is the taxes. From no state income tax to low registration fees/taxes.   Alan shares with Messer about Autotempest.com to find out the value of vehicles like Messer’s 2005 SRT10 Viper Truck with 565 horsepower.  A great tool when you’re in the business of selling your vehicle.  Alan and Messer talk about how electric cars are great, but we lack the infrastructures needed to support them.  Messer talks about his 2006 all-natural gas-powered Honda and the infrastructures to fill it was basically obsolete.  Alan believes hybrids are the answer for a happy medium.  He goes on to say that people don’t like going to dealerships and the convenience of purchasing your car online is the new way to avoid the hustle.   Used cars are being sold now for the same price it was worth 2 years ago.  Alan discusses how you can buy a brand-new car and then turn around and sell it for thousands more.  Dealerships are in need of vehicles to keep up with supply and demand but that doesn’t mean you get the vehicle you want. Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member. Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com and Executive Publisher at CarExpert.com. jumps in the driver’s seat to talk about Tesla’s earnings being knocked out of the park with over a billion dollars in profit. He say’s Tesla got a couple years profitability and is slowly becoming a real “car” automaker. Traditional automakers such as Ford who has owned the market for 40 years who designed the Ford F150 Lightning has set the bar for electric vehicles. The New York Auto Show is upcoming and wants Alan to talk about electric cars.  It took Alan a bit to answer and say what people need to know is the performance part of the electric vehicles is what’s ...

 Subaru’s WRX STI S209 Turbocharge with 310 Horsepower, Ford’s Mustang Mach 1, with 480 Horsepower, Giddyap!| #471 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:16

Welcome back Auto Junkies! This week Alan Taylor – President and CEO of ERN open’s the show as he shares how great the auction website AutoHunter.com is because you keep 100% of your sale. Most other auction sites charge you for hosting and selling your vehicle. Alan suggests Classiccars.com if you want to sell your car on a non auction site. Alan goes onto share about his rare beauty the Shelby GT Mustang, that he was able to purchase from it’s original owner which happens to be a friend of his who was letting it go during the pandemic. Dick Messer – Classic car expert and Executive Director of Peterson Museum joins Alan as they discuss how the bids for the Shelby GT Mustang are up over $100,000 right now. Dick talks about selling off a lot of his cars since he is in his 80’s now and how you have to make sure you have all the original parts in the car or else the buyer will be calling you asking you to send them the specific part missing. George Kennedy III – Co-Founder of Cartender and Freelance Automotive Journalist for CarGurus, boston Globe, and U.S. News & World Report takes lead as he talks about driving a Subaru WRX STI S209 and how this car was previously released in Japan. They are making only 209 of these cars. Most of them will be crushed eventually to ensure a limited number of them are out there. Alan chimes in to talk about how his Jeep Gladiator automatically adjusts the driving mode when you plug in the trailer lights in order to make towing easier. They say they like these kinds of upgrades except when the car kicks into “nanny” mode when it deems your doing something a bit dangerous. They switch gears and talk about Fords Mustang Mach 1 and how it has paddle shifters. They also discuss how a lot of new sports cars are being made strictly automatic. Brian Moody – Executive Editor for Autotrader.com pulls in the rear and talks about how people are now more brand loyal to car companies now than before the pandemic. Subaru has the highest rate of brand loyalty out there right now and car companies are striving to make sure you have a good buying experience so you will want to come back to them. Lexus takes the leady for loyalty in the luxury division. They duo debate whether or not having a car all blacked out still looks cool or not. They go on to talk about how some cars that didn’t sell well, such as the Pontiac Aztec, were simply ahead of their time and would sell really well now. They go through a list of the least expensive new cars that you can buy right now, but they say most likely they will be out of stock due to there still being a microchip shortage. Brian says that your best bet for a cheap but good quality new vehicle is going to be from Kia or Hyundai. Alan closes the show today as he talks about all of the different cars he owns and how he usually buys rare or interesting ones (like how he owns a car that the late Patrick Swayze once owned). Alan says Hot August nights is happening again very shortly. He also says owning rare cars is just the same as having money in the bank and when he needs money he will sell some of his collection. Alan reminds his listeners that he will be back same time and same place next week to get you your “fix” on what’s new and cool in the auto world.  2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk, Kia EV6, and the Extraordinary Bentley Continental GT3 | #470 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:17

Step into the driver seat with Alan this week as he talks about the shortage of cars at the dealerships. Joining Alan is Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member. Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com and Executive Publisher at CarExpert.com. The duo go on about how dealerships just can’t keep up with the supply and demand. They go on to discuss how some second hand cars are going for more than when they were brand new like the Kia Telluride. Finding anything really has been quite difficult, however Karl reminds us that there are tools out there that can help you find what your looking for like ISeeCars.com. France becomes their next topic as they discuss how their claim to have all electric vehicles by the year 2035 is a bit out there especially in regards to the ability to keep a stable electric grid to support the vehicles. Karl say’s that California has but a fraction of electric vehicles and it’s grid is already having difficulties. Karl switches gears as he discusses his likes of driving the Jeep Cherokee Grand L. It’s big and roomy with great handling. Alan takes a pit stop and chats with Josh Hancock – JoshCAR Hollywood Car Consultant. They talk about how a lot of car companies like Rivian, that are producing electric cars, are having huge delays in producing the vehicles. Alan talks about how he was looking into buying a new electric bike and even those are being delayed right now. Josh talks about how for the new movie Cruela, they bought an original 1974 Panther De Ville Saloon car for $100,000.00. Taking shotgun is Brian Armstead – Automotive Journalist, contributor to Car Expert.com and Forbes Wheels. Alan talks about putting his Shelby GT up for auction on AutoHunter.com and what a great website that is to buy and sell cars on. Brian talks about just getting back from the Chicago Auto Show, and how it was the first auto show in 18 months because of the pandemic. One of the cars he saw was the new 2022 Jeep Compass at the Chicago Auto Show and how nice the new design looks. He also saw a prototype of the new Nissan Z and the new Ford F-150 Lightning. The pair talk about how the Ford F-150 Lightning since it’s all electric doesn’t have an engine under the front hood, so that spot is now used as extra storage space. Brian talks about seeing the Kia EV6 and he thinks they will sell every one of these vehicles once they come out. Taking the final lap with Alan is, Steven Cole Smith – Automotive Journalist for Autoweek, Automobile Magazine, Grassroots Motorsports. Steven talks about going to Pikes Peak Hill Climb with Bentley and how much fun it was. Steven rode in a Bentley Continental GT3 at Pikes Peak and he was surprised how well the car was able to climb the mountain. They talk about how next year will be the 100th year of this hill climb event and how it’s most likely going to be quite the show with a lot of people at the event. Downshifting as they come to a close and discuss the new NASCAR car that is coming out in February and how it’s not doing well in the crash tests. They discuss a report saying that if this new car hits a wall head on, the driver will not survive, but this report was quickly swept away after it came out. Steven talks about going to the final SRX race in Nashville. Tony Stewart, Helio Castro Neves, Tony Kaanan, and Marco Andretti are all participants in this race. Alan reminds us that he will be back next week, same time, same channel, with what’s new and cool in the auto world on, “The Drive”.  “Power and Beauty” Mazda’s Cx-5 Carbon Edition Turbo AWD SUV, Jeeps PHEV Wrangler 4xe, and Volvo’s XC60 Recharge Plug-In Hybrid| #469 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:24:21

On your mark, get set, ready….Go! This week we have another show stopping, gear grinding, metal stomping show for you. Joining Alan this week is BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason. She and Alan talk about different car company brands that are not around anymore. How Hummer was gone but is now coming back in name only with an all electric model. The duo remember the time they were both down in Mexico test driving the Oldsmobile Bravada as the brand got discontinued. BJ shares her test driving the new Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition Turbo AWD SUV. She says it looks cool with its dark exterior and blacked out tires, and really scoots in turbo mode. She likes how it handles along with the get up and go power. Alan shifts gears and welcomes George Kennedy III – Co-Founder of Cartender and Freelance Automotive journalist for CarGurus, Boston Globe, and U.S. News & World Report. George shares his experience in driving Jeeps PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), the Wrangler 4xe. He says its a great vehicle for people to be introduced to hybrid vehicles, especially with the prices going up at the pumps. They discuss how quiet an electric vehicle is – Alan thinks it will be a great selling point for hunters who want to go creeping around in the woods. Alan shares how his daughter says she will never buy another vehicle that isn’t a plug-in hybrid because she likes how you can drive around town with electric and never have to fill up on gas, unless of course you are going on a long trip. They discuss how hard it is for car companies to be able to accurately tell you what sort of range you can get with a hybrid vehicle because how one charges it and drives it plays a huge factor. Pulling up next is Ed Justice Jr. – President and CEO of Justice Brothers Inc. They discuss the website autohunter.com and how great it is that you can put your car up for auction there and have a great experience selling it. Alan is listing his own car on the site next week, his 2020 Caroll Shelby Signature Edition GT 500. Alan’s GT has just 37 miles on it and it’s serial number is 8. Ed and Alan go on to talk about former Formula 1 driver Carlos Reutermann passing away and how much of a great driver he was. They two go on to talk abut Ed being the MC at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and how this will be his 15th year of being the MC. Taking the final lap with Alan is Brian Moody – Executive Editor for Autrotrader.com. Brian thinks that a lot of people are going to be surprised about the get up and go power of electric vehicles when they drive them for the first time which will be a huge selling point. Brian shares about driving the new Volvo XC60 Recharge Plug-In Hybrid and how it gets 80mpg. They close the show as they discuss how hard it is to find vehicles to buy and to rent all across the country. But are positive that next year will be better. New week, new show! Taking shotgun this week with Alan is Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member. Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com and Executive Publisher at CarExpert.com. Karl talks about testing the new Ford Bronco, which is not to be confused with the Ford Bronco Sport that is already out. He says Ford combined retro style with modern technology in the new Bronco and it is awesome! With its trail turn assist, it locks one of the rear wheels as you are turning to make you have a tighter turn. It will cause the car to almost turn on its own access and it’s completely great for getting around obstacles while off-roading.  Karl switches gears and talks about Panasonic selling all their Tesla stock and making billions of dollars and whether they sold it because they wanted to make money or because they are worried about the stock going down in price. They duo talk about how manufacturers are still having microchip shortages and it is causing delays across the board.  BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason joins the crew as they talk about how cars are selling for a lot more right now due to the shortage of new vehicles, and how if you want to buy a car you should try and wait for 6 months for the prices to come back down. Alan chimes in and shares about having fun riding around on an electric bike and how fun it was.  BJ talks about driving the Mustang Mach-E and how she liked it. Alan talks about how he still wants a vehicle that he can hear the engine roaring and how he is resisting these new electric cars.  Alan goes on about driving the 2021 Dodge Charger Redeye how much of a beast it was and fun to drive. BJ talks about driving the Hyundai Venue Denim and how it’s a very affordable vehicle. She talks about how the Denim version gets it’s name by how it looks on the exterior and interior and how it resembles denim material. She talks about how it’s a great for driving around town. Next on the starter line is Perry Stern – Editor of AutoNXT.net and Contributor to MSN.com. He says RVs are selling like hotcakes right now and having record numbers of sales that has never been seen before. Perry talks about how he has a camper trailer and tows it is using a Subaru Ascent. Perry talks about how great the Subaru handles while towing his camper.  Alan talks about how fun it was to test drive the new Dodge Hellcat Redeye that has 800 horsepower. They talk about how most of the car companies are putting the Hellcat engine into at least one model of their new vehicles because of how awesome it is. The duo goes on to talk about the new AMG speed boat called the Nighthawk that was introduced last week that has 2250 horsepower. They talk about how people feel like they have lost a year due to the covid restrictions, so people are going out and buying things like speed boats and RVs to feel like they are living again. Pulling in the rear is Lauren Fix – Editor in-Chief for Car Coach Reports. They discuss the massive shortage of rental cars right now. They also talk about how it can be hard to find a ride with Uber, Lyft, or even from a taxi.  Lauren says that the reason for the car shortages is because when covid hit rental dealerships decided to sell a lot of their cars because they were losing money by having the cars just sit there and now they don’t have enough cars to go around. Alan thinks that things like electric bikes are going to start to be more popular because of the shortage of rental vehicles. Lauren talks about test driving the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L which is a 3 row SUV. She says that this vehicle is a bit on the expensive side for an SUV but it’s is well worth the price. Need more? Well we’ve got more…join Alan and his guest next week for more exciting auto world news on, “The Drive”!

He talks about their new part of the Las Vegas Convention Center and how huge it is.  They continue to talk about the Barret Jackson event. Alan talks about how the cars at auction at the event don’t have a reserve price, so there is a chance that the car will be sold for very cheap (but usually it goes for a lot more than you could get at another place). They talk about mini-bikes being sold at the event and BJ says that mini-bikes are making a huge comeback. They talk about how car memorabilia were selling for a ton of money at the event, even just a sign sold for thousands of dollars. BJ talks about how she hates that people lean on the cars at the event to take pictures, because they often scratch the cars.  BJ talks about driving the new Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport SUV. She talks about how this vehicle is classified as a classic vehicle, so it has a bigger price tag, and BJ was disappointed that it did not have some accessories that other luxury vehicles come with. The second row has captain chairs, which George really liked. They talk about the new F-350 Tremor. George talks about how it’s a beast of a truck and how most people won’t need a truck that big. Gordon McCall – President and CEO of McCall Events, Inc. joins the crew as they talk about how the Monterey car week event is coming up soon. They talk about Gordon’s event at Monterey car week called the Quail MotorSports Gathering that has been going on for 18 years. Gordon had the idea that he wanted to make an event where everyone there feels like a VIP. Gordon and Alan continue about the Quail event being all inclusive when you buy a ticket for the event. They talk about how every meal is a 5-star dining experience. They have a lot of classic cars on display, but they don’t have any judges or competitions and they try to get the rarest of cars for the event. The duo talk about how they didn’t know until recently that they were going to be allowed to have this event happen due to covid restrictions, but thankfully they will be able to be at full capacity. They talk about how there are now too many events during the Monterey car week, so you need to pick and choose your favorite events to go to and not worry about not being able to go to all of the events.  Gordon goes on about the Laguna Seca Raceway and how it’s one of the only places where you can see classic cars race against each other. They talk about how there is nothing like seeing these classic cars in person. There is also an event that features unloved cars such as the Gremlin. Gordon closes the show as they talk about how Gordon set up a test drive for Alan where he drove the U.S.S. Welcome back Gearheads! This week Alan welcomes special guests Lori Scholz – Sr. Manager of Public Relations for Hyundai Motor America and Sue Mead – Automotive Writer. Alan starts off by sharing his news of becoming the voice for Classicars.com. He then switches over to share a story about his friend, singer Richie Flieger who was looking for a new car and Hyundai let him borrow a Hyundai Tucson to which he instantly fell in love. This is coming from a man who has access to vehicles that would blow your doors off. He say’s it’s an amazing compact SUV with great gas mileage. Not to mention he got a great deal with 0% interest for 60 months and 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. Whew! The trio discuss how the new model is a bit bigger and longer with more cargo space. Joining Alan next is Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Auto Contributor, NACT of the year juror and board member. Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com and Executive Publisher at CarExpert.com. They talk about the Borla exhaust system that Alan just put on his Jeep Gladiator Mojave and his new Shelby GT. They switch over to discuss Toyota’s Mirai which runs on hydrogen. The vehicle looks great, and it’s great for not polluting but not yet practical for everyone because of the lack of fueling stations. BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason jumps shotgun as she and Alan talk about his new role with Classiccars.com. Alan switches gears and talks about Dodge and their new electric vehicle that will go from 0-60mph in 2 seconds. Jumping Junipers! They go on to discuss Fords next generation truck the Maverick. It’s design to be a work truck and how it can haul 4,000 pounds with a tow package. Brian Moody – Executive Editor for Autotrader.com brings up the rear as he talks about some of the best lease deals on new cars and how sometimes leasing a car is better than buying one. Alan and Brian go through Auto Trader’s list of best pre-owned certified luxury cars and non luxury. Brian says Lexus is the winner of the luxury category and Kia won for the non luxury category. He say’s buying a certified pre-owned vehicle is better then buying a pre-owned vehicle from a private party because you get the manufacturer’s seal of approval saying they inspected the car and it still has a warranty. They close the show with Auto Trader’s list of 10 best compact cars under $5k. Lot’s of miles but still reliable. It’s Thunder, It’s Lightening!!! That’s right another electrifying show this week as Alan welcomes special guest, Aron Solomon – Head of Digital Strategy for Esquire Digital. The duo start off with the introduction of Ford’s new electric F-150 called Lightning, and how Ford hurt Tesla’s sales of their electric vehicle by announcing and showcasing their electric vehicle first. They discuss how some people still do not trust electric vehicles and it is partially because of how quiet they are. The go back to discuss how smart Ford is for simply taking their bestselling truck and just making it electric instead of trying to reinvent the wheel on a new design.  Alan chimes in briefly about how he wished Ford had not named their Mach-E vehicle a Mustang.  George Kennedy III – Co-founder of Cartender and Freelance Automotive Journalist for CarGurus, Boston Globe, and U.S. News & World Report, jumps in the drivers seat and shares his experience in driving a Lexus UX Hybrid which is a subcompact crossover vehicle. Alan and George say that the plug-in hybrid vehicles are the way to go if you are wanting to have an electric car. Alan shares his experience in driving the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe and how he loved it and hated it at the same time. They talk about how you need to make sure you are buying the right vehicle for what you are going to use it for because Alan wanted to put a lawnmower in the back of the Corvette and it wouldn’t fit. George talks about how nice the exterior and interior are on the new Lexus UX Hybrid and how it is a great commuter car. They two discuss how with the new fancy infotainment systems that new cars have is a good thing and that most new cars come with nany systems to help keep you on the road while you are changing the radio station.  BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason joins Alan next as Alan shares more about test driving the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe and how it is a good price for having a sports car of that caliber. He likes how it looks, but it draws too much attention for his liking. They continue to talk about the new Corvette and how it is one of the fastest vehicles Alan has driven in recent years, but he really wishes the one he got wasn’t bright red. They two wonder about the future of Corvette and whether or not they will make an electric car or an SUV. BJ takes her final lap as she discusses the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 and how if you are not sure about it you can do a mini lease for 3 months to try it out. Taking the hot seat next is Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year juror and board member. Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com and Executive Publisher at CarExpert.com. Karl starts his lap as he talks about the Corvette Alan drove and how they both feel like everyone is staring at them while they drive it. They go on to talk about electric vehicles and Karl thinks they are going to continue to grow in popularity but not completely take over the market like some people think.  He also talks about driving the Lexus J201 Overland concept vehicle and how there is a new movement about people wanting to not just drive off road but to drive over long distances overland. Karl says this vehicle is designed to go any place, even partially under water so it has a snorkel so the engine can still breath. Gears still spinning? Engine still running? Need more fuel for that fire? If so, join Alan next week as he and his guest shift gears and take us for another spin around the block of what’s new in the auto world here on, “The Drive”.
