The duo shed more light on the shortage of semiconductor chips that will cause about 1,000,000 plus cars to not be made. Steven got to drive the new 2022 Nissan Frontier with a 3.8-liter V6, 310 Horsepower with a towing capability 6720 pounds. Next Alan welcomes BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason. BJ shares more chip news and says Ford has built many of the F series but can’t sell because there are no chips. She shares that GM is trying to get a jump on the F series by re-starting production on the full-size trucks instead of the crossovers and midsize. Alan says people really must examine to see what kind of trucks they really need. They discuss the insane prices of the cars. BJ says anyone in the market looking for a car is screwed. The dealers are marking up used cars to make up for revenue loss. BJ explains that dealerships who gouge the consumer will lose that consumer when things get up and running again. Alan will be in Houston, Texas next week for the Barrett-Jackson Car show and says classic cars are money in the bank. BJ says she loves quirky cars and hints to Alan her want of a 1958 Nash Metropolitan Convertible. Up next is Craig Jackson – Chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. Craig shares that the Barrett-Jackson Inaugural Auction will be it’s first time coming to Houston. It will be held at the NRG Center. Alan inquires about any mandates and Craig explains there is no mask mandate, to just be cautious and do the right thing. Craig goes on to say that its so much more than the cars, but it’s a marketplace where all the exhibitors to show their best stuff and taking hot laps on the performance track. The headliner is a pair of 2019 Ford GT’s. There is also a trio of Ford GT’s 05-06, along with a 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350 which was once owned by Stirling Moss and a 1988 BMW M3, which was previously owned by Fast and Furious star Paul Walker. All the cars that are being showcased are being bid on or sold with no reserves. Craig says Barrett-Jackson is all about making sure it’s representation of the cars are on par. Alan said one thing about the old classic cars are great investments. No chips and you can still work on your own car. Craig says buy what you want and make sure you understand what you are buying. He believes we are at a crossroads where they are still making the greatest petroleum-based cars now. It’s also at the end of the era in stick shifts, while everything has gone to double clutch or automatics, to hybrids and pure electric cars. Car collecting is evolving, says Craig. The core of Barrett-Jackson is ethics, integrity, and transparency while having a fun environment for car lovers and just living life. Car collecting is a great melting pot to bring people together. Rounding the corner and pulling in next is Lauren Fix – Editor in-Chief for Car Coach Reports. She joins us from the racetrack as she is testing out her 2000 Jaguar, that was the Trans American championship car. Both Alan and Lauren say, provenance, or the history behind the car is a plus when buying or selling. Alan and Lauren talk about the SEMA & AAPEX show coming up in November. They discuss the possible mandates set in place in regards to covid which she feels is why a lot of the suppliers are pulling out. However there will still be a ton of cars at the show Next they talk about “flood cars”. Lauren says the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) or CARFAX will have a list of flood damaged cars.
