 Advanced Audio Blog S2 #18 - Elvis in Indonesia? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:34

Learn Indonesian with IndonesianPod101! Don't forget to stop by IndonesianPod101.com for more great Indonesian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Bujangan by The King of Dangdut Bujangan, or "Bachelor," is one of 500 songs written by Rhoma Irama during his career that took off in 1973. The singer/songwriter and actor was crowned The King of Dangdut by the Indonesian people. Rhoma Irama, whose birth name is Irama, formed the Soneta band in 1973 after previously joining a few other bands. With Soneta, Rhoma Irama has produced eleven albums. Playing the Malay music genre, the fan base of Rhoma Irama and Soneta is not limited just to Indonesia, but also to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Brunei. His fans and mass media consider his music genre as dangdut, however, Rhoma chooses to call it Malay Music. The distinctive feature of his music is that he mixes rockabilly with Malay music. He uses gendang—that is unique to dangdut—in addition to drums, and includes a bamboo flute—that is also unique to dangdut—in addition to the electric guitar. In some recordings and live performances, he also incorporates orchestra in his compositions. Rhoma Irama's stage performance and appearance is always in tune with the rockabilly theme of his music. He wears costumes and hairstyles that are greatly influenced by Elvis Presley. Bujangan is a great example of his music. Its verses are heavy on the rockabilly style while the chorus has the unique Malay rhythm. Usually, people will start to dance to the chorus. Peo [...]
