Advanced Audio Blog S2 #10 - The Indonesian History of September Thirtieth | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4:07

Learn Indonesian with IndonesianPod101! Don't forget to stop by IndonesianPod101.com for more great Indonesian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- The Betrayal of the September 30th Movement by the Indonesia Communist Party (1984) If there is one movie that may have been watched by all Indonesian people, then that would be the Pengkhianatan G30S-PKI, or what is often loosely referred to as the PKI movie. It is a semi-documentary propaganda movie officially produced by the National Center of Motion Pictures whose story was written by Nugroho Notosusanto (a historian and then the Minister of Education and Culture) and directed by then a famous director, Arifin C. Noer. The movie that was released in 1984 is an official version of government interpretation about the historical event that took place on the night of September 30 and the morning of October 1, 1965, in Jakarta. During this critical time, political turmoil in Indonesia culminated and ended with a regime changed from Soekarno to Soeharto. Actually, there are several versions of what happened on the night of September 30, 1965. The New Order Regime under the leadership of Soeharto stated that the event was a coup attempt orchestrated by the Indonesia Communist Party (ICP), which was then quelled by Soeharto himself. This interpretation is used as a basis for the movie. The movie consists of three main parts [...]
