 UnforMETable, Episode 51: Mario Diaz | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1815

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. A glove-first, middle infield/utility player, Mario Diaz labored in the minor leagues for seven years before making his major league debut with the Mariners. After brief appearances Seattle from 1987-1989, Diaz was traded to a Mets team looking for middle infield depth with Kevin Elster struggling with injury. Diaz spent a brief time on the major league roster, primarily as a late inning replacement. On July 25, 1990, he entered late into what seemed to be a blowout Mets’ victory—that quickly and dramatically descended into a tense struggle. After a 10-3 lead had evaporated to 10-9, Diaz snared the last out of the game—and became an impromptu part of one of the iconic Bob Murphy’s most memorable calls. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. Last week, Brian and Chris lamented the cold bats, and this week, they’ve frozen over. As frustrating as that is, they don’t think it is time to panic yet, citing the usual reasons (weird schedule, usual April shenanigans, past performance). They also debate the fifth starter situation and celebrate the surprisingly effective bullpen. Then, Brian chats with John Stolnis of the Good Phight (@JohnStolnis) to discuss the upcoming series with the Phillies. Chris’s Music Pick: Dinosaur Jr - Sweep It Into Space Brian’s Music Pick: Various Artists - Tropicália: ou Panis et Circencis You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 82: Meet the Mets...masked and from six feet away | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4814

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we had Bradford William Davis on the show to talk about all things COVID-19 and Major League Baseball—a beat Bradford has been covering for awhile. We chat about the new protocols for 2021, what can be done to combat vaccine hesitancy in the league, stadium capacity, and more. And as always, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 50: Omir Santos | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1666

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Signed as a minor league free agent prior to the 2009 season, Omir Santos seemed to be an organizational depth piece. Injuries got him a chance on the major league roster, which enabled Santos to provide a few memorable moments—including a Citi Field milestone and a dramatic game-winning home run as a surprise contributor to a club with high aspirations that would ultimately disappoint.  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 58: Cold Bats | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2150

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. Brian and Chris are flummoxed by the Mets, as they aren’t hitting en masse, but they are still in first place, and the pitching has been pretty good (well, at least it was until Wednesday night in Chicago). We know we need to be patient, but this has been such a weird last year and change, it’s tough to remember what the ups and downs of a regular season feel like in the moment. But, Chris shouts out Miguel Castro, Brian praises Trevor May, and both are loving the Stro Show.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 81: From Flushing to Hollywood | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5543

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we have a conversation with fellow Amazin’ Avenue writer, Grace Carbone. We had planned for this to be a fun episode about films, but of course we had to begin the show by discussing the latest reporting in The Athletic about the Mets’ toxic culture and the years-long poor treatment of women by the front office. But ultimately this was mostly a fun episode about films. We chat with Grace about the upcoming Oscars—her favorite films and performances of the year, her predictions, and our favorite categories. We also each name our favorite baseball films. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 49: Mac Scarce | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1629

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. In acquiring Mac Scarce in the 1974 offseason the Mets were bringing on a young, left handed reliever who had an impressive 1973 before struggling a bit in 1974. Still, the team seemed to think enough of him—and young catching prospect John Stearns—to part with franchise icon Tug McGraw in a trade. That sentiment wouldn’t last long, though. Scarce would become a fascinating footnote in Mets history by facing one batter and surrendering a game ending single—appearing in one game and officially pitching zero innings—before being traded away four days later. A pair of famous weddings took place on today’s date (Grace Kelly and Prince Ranier of Monaco & Marie Antoinette and King Louie XVI) so the team looks at famous baseball power couples in Promote, Extend, Trade. After that, they give updates on their Way-Too-Early Draft Special players of interest. Next, Steve gives updates on our adopted CPBL/KBO/NPB teams, the Uni-Lions (CPBL), the LG Twins (KBO), and the Yakult Swallows (NPB). Following that, the team takes a look at some roster news. After, they discuss some rule changes that will be taking place in the Atlantic League in 2021.
