 UnforMETable, Episode 48: Julio Franco | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2064

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Julio Franco began his professional baseball journey when he was signed by the Phillies as a young shortstop out of the Dominican Republic in 1978. It was a journey that would ultimately land him in Flushing with the New York Mets almost 30 years later. With his career seemingly winding down in the late 1990s, Franco spend four seasons overseas before working his way back to the majors in his 40s. The veteran would sign with the Mets prior to the 2006 season, providing leadership—and some historic hits—for a young team on the rise.  Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, Episode 21: Pete Alonso and Curtis Granderson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1720

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, a podcast from Amazin’ Avenue where we invite interesting people on the show to talk about themselves, the Mets, and more. The Mets, Citi, and No Kid Hungry have been working together on the Citi Community Home Runs Program, where every home run hit at Citi Field sees Citi donate $2,000 to No Kid Hungry, an organization that fights food insecurity in New York and beyond. Over $1 million has been donated by Citi thus far, capped off by a Pete Alonso home run in the final game of the 2020. To talk about this program, we have Head of Citi Retail Services David Chubak, as well as the first Mets ambassador for the program Curtis Granderson, as well as their current ambassador, Pete Alonso. We talk about the program, Instagram, guitars, salmon, and lots, lots more. Due to COVID-19, an estimated 1 in 4 children face hunger today. In New York City, that number could rise to 1 in 3 children. Citi will be donating $2,000 for every Mets home run hit at Citi Field during the 2021 season. Also new in 2021 is the CCHR Fan of the Game Sweepstakes. Fans nationwide can sign up at SNY.tv/CHR through 9/20/21 for a chance to have their name on a Mets home broadcast on SNY, win autographed Mets merchandise and automatically enter to win a virtual meet & greet with Pete Alonso. Fans who donate $5 or more to No Kid Hungry will receive 25 extra entries for the season-long sweepstakes, where one new fan will be selected per home SNY broadcast.   You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  Amazin' Avenue in Conversation, Episode 20: Chris Forsyth | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2630

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, a podcast from Amazin’ Avenue where we invite interesting people on the show to talk about themselves, the Mets, and more. Chris Forsyth is a guitarist and songwriter who releases music as a solo artist and also as the leader of the Solar Motel Band. He compares his music to that of the late, great John Fahey, but instead of synthesizing the blues down to its most prime elements, Chris does that with rock and roll. Chris’s songs find room for improvisation without sacrificing melody. He’s also a huge Mets fan, and we talk about both of those parts of his life on today’s episode. You can follow Chris on Twitter (@thechrisforsyth), and check out his Bandcamp page to become better acquainted with his music.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 79: We live in a society | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4625

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, Mets baseball is back! And the Mets’ (delayed) Opening Day game was every bit Mets baseball. We talk about that and the Francisco Lindor extension and how happy we are that he is a Met for the next decade. We then discuss sentiments of vaccine hesitancy expressed by Mets players.  Next, we talk about MLB’s decision to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta, shouting out Demetrius Bell’s article over at Talking Chop on the matter.  Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 47: Jed Lowrie | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2018

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Let’s hop in the wayback machine all the way to the 2018 offseason, when new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen tried to put his mark on the team with some dramatic moves. After a major trade to acquire closer Edwin Diaz and second baseman Robinson Cano, the Mets tried to expand their offensive depth by signing veteran utility man Jed Lowrie. Lowrie’s two year contract was an endless string of mysterious leg injuries. The frustration of never seeing this acquisition take the field was only exacerbated by the organization’s opaque handling of the information regarding Lowrie’s condition. The frustration surrounding his Mets tenure seemed to provide an all-too appropriate coda to a strange 2020 baseball season and a frustrating Wilpon ownership tenure.  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 55: Disregard Approximately Half of This Episode | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4055

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. As happens with alarming frequency, Chris and Brian recorded this episode less than an hour before the Mets and Francisco Lindor agreed to the 10 year, $341 million extension. So, with that said, please ignore about half of their gripes expressed therein. Aside from the Lindor stuff instantly rendered moot, Brian and Chris discuss their overall impressions for the season, highlight some players they’re excited about, and, again, just couldn’t have timed this worse with Lindor.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 78: The DMV sloth from Zootopia | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5549

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the latest on the Lindor extension talks, which are still not resolved, despite now being less than 48 hours away from Opening Day. We hoped we would get to break news live on the podcast as we recorded Tuesday night, but alas, it did not happen. But we did get to discuss our general excitement about Opening Day and the fact that the Mets promoted a woman to be Head Team Physician.  We also talked about reporting from The Athletic that revealed that the Mets have hired a law firm to review their workplace culture. While it is good they are doing something, we question whether a law firm is the right choice for this task. In the same article it is reported that MLB’s investigation of Mickey Callaway—who still has a job—will not be complete by Opening Day. In our baseball segment, we discussed the dubious framing of Odubel Herrera’s status with the Phillies as a labor issue, as well as actual labor issues, such as the Cubs lowballing their franchise player. To inject some levity into the show in light of Steve Cohen’s announcement that the black jerseys are coming back, we had a hearty debate about whether the black jerseys are good or bad; our hosts are evenly divided on this issue. UnforMETable, Episode 46: Collin Cowgill | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1599

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. With the organization reeling financially from the Bernie Madoff fallout, Sandy Alderson tried to unearth hidden gems. Such was the hope when the team acquired Collin Cowgill— an undersized outfielder who had posted some solid minor league numbers—prior to the 2013 season. Cowgill had a great spring training, winning a spot as the team’s starting center fielder. This looked like promising development when Cowgill announced his presence with a memorable Opening Day performance—including a grand slam—in an 11-2 victory. Cowgill would lose his job by May, and be off the team before the end of June—but he’ll always have that UnforMETable Opening Day performance.
