 UnforMETable, Episode 60: Pat Zachry | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1760

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Pat Zachry hit the ground running in his major league career—winning a share of the 1976 National League Rookie of the Year award while winning a dame in each of the NLCS and the World Series with the Cincinnati Reds. Zachry would go from first to last in mid-1977 when the struggling Big Red Machine matched up with a dysfunctional Mets organization on a trade that would send Zachry and three others to New York in exchange for the iconic Tom Seaver. Between the infamy of the trade and his struggles with injuries, Zachry would never fully settle in or be embraced, but he flashed some solid pitching at times—though his record would often not reflect that as he toiled for some horrible Mets teams.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 91: The Boxed Wine of Baseball | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4596

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by bemoaning how the Mets can’t seem to score any runs, despite the fact that many of their position players have returned or are close to returning from the injured list. Next, we discuss the fact that the Mets do not provide their minor league players a housing stipend, which is unacceptable and something that Steve Cohen should rectify immediately.  We also talk about the recent accusations against Trevor Bauer, the first disciplinary action under the new foreign substances policy, and the lawsuit Tyler Skagg’s family is bringing against the Angels organization. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 59: Matt Franco | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1924

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Matt Franco pursued a career in one of the two great passions of his family—not acting, like his uncle Kurt Russell—but baseball—also like Russell, who had an early career in minor and independent league ball. Franco would make it further than his uncle—or his grandfather before him—enduring a long road in the minors before MLB debut with the Cubs in 1995. But it was with his trade to the Mets in 1996 that Franco would find his home, as the primary pinch hitter for some successful late 90s Mets teams. Franco’s patience at the plate and clutch bat would deliver often in a pinch—never more memorably than in the Subway Series against Mariano Rivera in 1999.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 120: Google Earth | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4521

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. On this date back in 1997, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield had a boxing match that took an unexpected turn, so the team looks at other sporting events that did not live up to the hype in Promote, Extend, Trade. Next, Steve gives updates on our adopted CPBL/KBO/NPB teams, the Uni-Lions (CPBL), the LG Twins (KBO), and the Yakult Swallows (NPB). Following that, the team calls out Steve Cohen and the Mets for their continued poor treatment of minor league players. After, the team talks about how the Mets’ minor league affiliates did in this eighth week of the 2021 season. Then, they reminisce about Rainy Lara in Oh Yeah, That Guy! And wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week. As always, you can listen or subscribe to the podcast through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, Episode 29: Jason Fry | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2771

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue in Conversation, a podcast from Amazin’ Avenue where we invite interesting people on the show to talk about themselves, the Mets, and more. Jason Fry is someone who has been able to take his passions and, not just appreciate them from afar, but get so deep into them, he winds up on the inside. What does that mean? Well, Jason went from Mets fan to writer who had access to the team and an audience to share his opinions with. He also went from obsessive Star Wars fan to a writer who has contributed to the overall mythos in ways that he likely could never have imagined as a kid playing with action figures.  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 67: Hanging in the Slightly Concerned Suburbs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2472

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. While many of the Mets faithful are fully entrenched within the confines of Panic City, Brian and Chris remain slightly more optimistic about where the Mets find themselves. That is, namely, in first place and with a winning record. The cavalcade of injuries marches on, and the hosts dig into the latest round of the replacement players, including last night’s starter, Tylor Megill.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 90: Everybody hurts | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4205

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing all the latest pitching injuries while hoping for the best with Marcus Stroman. We try to come up with possible trade targets and found out that the Pirates should be avoided at all costs. Next, we talk about the pine tar pat downs and the gamesmanship between Joe Girardi and Max Scherzer. We then discuss the shameful way minor leaguers are treated when a team didn’t know where they were going to sleep and debated about sleeping in their cars. We move on to the Seventh Inning Stretch where we answer a thought exercise from a listener. Would we trade Jacob deGrom for five players who would guarantee the Mets make the World Series four times in the next eight years? Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 58: Chris Jones | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1696

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Chris Jones was primarily a bench player and backup outfielder in the middle of a journeyman career when he joined the New York Mets in 1995. Jones quickly developed a knack for dramatic moments in New York, delivering two walk off home runs during the 1995 season, and two more the following season. His four walk-off home runs tying a record for the most in franchise history.
