Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 75: Celebrating 36 and Lamenting 2021 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3283

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. Things have not looked good for the Mets all month, and things continue to be bleak around the team. Brian and Chris (unsuccessfully) search for reasons for optimism, beyond players returning from the IL, before, essentially, declaring the season lost. Prove us wrong, Mets! The topic of Jerry Koosman’s long overdue number retirement comes up, and the question of what other number(s) the Mets should retire is posed.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 99: Forget meaningful. Can we get watchable games in September? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4950

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by talking about the Mets’ horrible West Coast road trip, which furthered their demise and whether there is any reason at all for optimism now that Javy Báez and Francisco Lindor are back in the lineup.  Next, we have a discussion about retired numbers. Should the Mets be more inclusive when it comes to number retirement? And how should off the field matters factor into the decision when it comes to some members of the 1986 team? On our baseball segment this week, we talk about the outcome of Trevor Bauer’s hearing and what might happen moving forward. We also point out that the Mets have “spoken with” the founder of Driveline Baseball, which infamously counts Bauer and Luke Heimlich among its clients.  Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 66: Jack Fisher | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1670

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Jack Fisher had already established a reputation as a workhorse before the Mets acquired him in a special draft for the recent expansion teams prior to the 1964 season. His tenure in Baltimore was solid, even if he is primarily remembered there for surrendering historic home runs to Ted Williams and Roger Maris. With the Mets, Fisher would make 133 starts over four seasons—most notably taking the hill and throwing the first pitch in Shea Stadium history. Fisher’s tenure as a Met would draw to a close as the Mets young rotation featuring Tom Seaver and Jerry Koosman would begin to take shape. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable).  Amazin' Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 74: Bad Play and Worse Tweets | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2143

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The Mets have lost five of six on their tour of the National League West, and have not seen the return of any of their injured stars. Things were looking dire, and then Steve Cohen tweeted about how bad the offense is playing. It's been a hell of a week on Mets Twitter, and that says a whole lot.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 98: August is the new June | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4344

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by lamenting the fact that the Mets have gone from toast to burnt toast since our last episode. We also discuss how this could potentially be fixed moving forward and if it can be fixed at all. Next, we talk about the latest developments with the Trevor Bauer situation—new reporting from the Washington Post about an Ohio woman who filed a protective order against Bauer last year and a breakdown of the first two days of testimony in court. UnforMETable, Episode 65: Philip Humber | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1566

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Philip Humber was drafted third overall by the Mets in 2004 with great hope—one pick after the Tigers selected Justin Verlander. Humber would suffer through arm problems before suddenly getting thrust into a key game pennant race in 2007, as the Mets’ once commanding division leaf began to evaporate. While his Mets career would end after that start, as he was traded for Johan Santana, he would go on hurl a Perfect Game in one of his 16 career MLB wins--and his only ever complete game.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 97: “I have the bread in the toaster” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5070

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the Mets’ horrible slide from first place in the NL East to third place, culminating with Zack Scott’s press conference in which he threw his players under the bus. We discuss why “accountability” is something that seems to only apply to players and not management. Next, we talk about MLB’s possible partnership with Barstool and how alienating it would be for a large portion of the fanbase.  We also shout out Brittany Ghrioli’s article in The Athletic about the conditions minor league players are dealing with—an issue we are glad is getting more national media attention. Since being called out on this issue, the Mets have made nominal improvements, but it isn’t enough. We also ask our listeners to sign the International Women’s Baseball Center’s petition to bring the IWBC to Rockford, IL, which would help them build an activity center for local kids, have baseball-centered education for students of all ages, preserve of this historic ticket booth in Rockford, and more. Please also give a small donation if you can; they do really great work. UnforMETable, Episode 64: Esix Snead | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1282

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Esix Snead has a name you can’t forget, with some of the best speed of his era to boot. Unfortunately, his speed was his primary skill, and his Mets, and MLB career, was not as memorable as his name. Snead had two Major League call ups with the Mets, with one very memorable game in September of 2002 against the Montreal Expos. In that game, Snead didn’t just show off his speed, but gave fans a glimpse at what a more complete player Snead had the chance to become. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 128: The Mets are bad but the Mets minors...sigh, they are bad too | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3719

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. The Abbey Road cover was shot on this date back in 1969, so the team looks at some of the most iconic Mets photos in Promote, Extend, Trade. After, Steve and Ken hand over the mic to Lukas and Thomas to kvetch about the Mets’ abysmal draft, since they weren’t able to join in the emergency rage recording in the wee hours of the night last week. Next, the team talks about the Olymics, and Team USA’s second place medal. Following that, they talk about the state of the Mets minor league system in light of Baseball America writing a pair of articles highlighting the best and worst teams in minor league baseball today and the quality of play on the field. Finally, the Wilponery of the Week. As always, you can listen or subscribe to the podcast through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps!  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 96: Dodgers Least | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5639

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the Mets’ trading deadline acquisitions, Javier Báez and Trevor Williams, who we are happy about, but the Mets should have done more. Next, we delve into the Kumar Rocker situation—why it was a disaster that the Mets didn’t sign him, the organizations lack of a backup plan, and how the whole situation is illustrative of how fans are constantly conditioned to side against players and with management. UnforMETable, Episode 63: Eric Valent | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1879

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. A college star at UCLA, Eric Valent was a supplemental first round draft pick for the Phillies in 1998 who seemed to have a bright future. However, his progress through the minor leagues seemed to stall at AAA. Acquired by the Mets as a minor league free agent prior to the 2004 season, Valent had an impressive season—culminating in his signature game in New York—a July 29 game in Montreal in which Valent would become (at the time) the eighth Met in franchise history to hit for the cycle.
