From Complex To Queens, Episode 147: You know, I’m something of a prospect myself | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4201

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. In Promote, Extend, Trade, Steve, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas discuss the origin of choice of their super powers, if they had super powers. Following that, they discuss the recent hiring of Buck Showalter as Mets manager. The 65-year-old has been involved in baseball in one way or another since the 1970s. Will his helming the Mets have any kind of impact on the Mets minor league system, good or bad? After, the team discusses Spider-Man because...well, why not? I don’t see much minor league baseball action going on, do you? And, wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week! Got questions? Comments? Concerns? You can email the show at fromcomplextoqueens at gmail dot com, and follow us on Twitter: Steve is (@stevesypa), Lukas is (@lvlahos343), Ken is (@kenlavin91), and Thomas is (@sadmetsszn).  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 84: Who should be Mr. Manager? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3455

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The Mets, and all of Major League Baseball, are in a lock out right now, and so there’s not a ton of Mets-related content to chat about. However, the team is circling around three candidates to manage the team: Buck Showalter, Joe Espada, and Matt Quatraro. Brian and Chris debate the relative merits of each, and discuss their predicted timelines for the lock out. Plus, we pay tribute to Pedro Feliciano and are joined for a quick chat by Trevor May. Chris’s Music Pick: The Budos Band - Burnt Offering Brian’s Music Pick: The Monkees - Christmas Party You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  From Korriban To Coruscant, Episode 146: The Metsalorian | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4245

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. With the COVID-19 omicron variant spreading, the team discusses other deadly diseases in Promote, Extend, Trade. Following that, they discuss the minor league portion of the 2021 Rule 5 Draft. The Mets selected a pair of pitchers from the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago Cubs and lost a pair of pitchers to the Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners. After...Well, we jump the Ithorian razor shark. There usually isn’t much minor league action going on between the MLB Winter Meetings and the new year, when we start rolling out our updated prospect rankings, but things are at an even bigger lull this year with the MLB owners lockout. We have a show to record, so we dip into one of the collective fandoms we all share: Star Wars. And, wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week! Got questions? Comments? Concerns?  UnforMETable, Episode 74: Pedro Feliciano | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2157

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. A 31st round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pedro Feliciano slowly and steadily worked his way through the minors and across several organizations before being acquired by the Mets in 2002. Feliciano would be up and down in the minors—and overseas in Japan—before returning to the organization prior to the 2006 season. An adjustment to his delivery that he worked on with pitching coach Rick Peterson—turning to more of a three-quarters delivery—would help Feliciano develop into an effective reliever, particularly tough on lefties. Feliciano would thrive and become a mainstay in the Mets bullpen from 2006 to 2010, leading the league in appearances three straight seasons as he would go on to record the second most appearances in franchise history for a pitcher behind John Franco. Feliciano was a presence and positive figure in the organization after his retirement until his tragic and untimely passing earlier this year at the age of 45.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 109: The Tale of the Two Baseballs with Bradford William Davis and Dr. Meredith Wills | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5690

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we are joined by investigative journalist Bradford William Davis and astrophysicist and baseball construction expert Dr. Meredith Wills to discuss Bradford’s recent article for Business Insider on Meredith’s study, which revealed that MLB used two different baseballs with two different performance profiles during the 2021 season. We chat with Bradford and Meredith about the data, what it tells us, the reactions of players and others in baseball to this news, its impact on tensions between the league and the players in the context of the current lockout, and so much more. Video of our conversation—where you can see Meredith’s demonstrations with actual used game balls—is available on the Amazin’ Avenue Facebook page. As we always do, we wrapped things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us, including our guests, talked about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 145: Locked Out | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4482

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. In honor of the last night of Hanukkah (and Hanukkah in general), the team talks about the best performance of Jewish characters by Jewish actors in Promote, Extend, Trade. After, the team previews the upcoming Rule 5 Draft discusses the MLB owner lockout and the impact it is going to have on the upcoming 20222 minor league baseball season. Following that, the team discusses some of the BBWAA Baseball Hall of Fame ballots that have been trickling in. Steve, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas review all 30 players who are on it this year and vote. We’re not sure who to send the official From Complex To Queens 2022 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot to, but we’ve got it here waiting. And, wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week! Got questions?  From Complex To Queens, Episode 144: Happy Metsgiving! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1470

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. It’s that time of the year, folks. Time to discuss what we’re thankful of. Steve, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas kvetch a whole lot- we’ve made jobs out of it, one can say- but at the end of the day, we do this to ourselves. Being a Mets fan might not be a choice, but the degree of effort that we put into being Mets fans is entirely up to us. Why do we do it? What do we get out of it? The four amigos each take a little time to discuss what they’re thankful for as Amazin’ Avenue writers, as Amazin’ Avenue podcasters, as Mets fans, and as people. Amazin' Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 83: The New NEW Mets | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4208

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The last time we spoke, the Mets' front office was barren, Qualifying Offers were out, and the future didn't look great for 2022. Then, everything changed. The Mets have a new GM in Billy Eppler, a new co-ace in Max Scherzer, a new center fielder in Starling Marte, a new right fielder in Mark Canha, and a new infielder in Eduardo Escobar. This is a shocking turn of events, especially the Scherzer signing, and Brian and Chris get to most of it.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 108: This is not a true crime podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3843

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the Mets’ new general manager Billy Eppler and the work he has cut out for him this offseason, especially now that Noah Syndergaard has signed with the Angels. We talk about the Mets’ strategy of not pursuing any free agents with a QO attached and also discuss all the latest Mets-adjacent rumors—Steven Matz, Javy Báez, Seiya Suzuki, and more. Next, we briefly cover the lengthy profile written about Dave Portnoy in New York Magazine and Trevor Bauer’s controversial tweet and encourage you to engage with neither.  Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 143: Winter is Coming | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3701

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. In honor of Lukas and Thomas being a pair of sickos, the team picks internet memes in Promote, Extend, Trade. Next, with the Arizona Fall League concluded, the team reviews how the Mets players who participated did. Following that, they take a look at the 40-man roster and moves that were made in preparation for the upcoming Rule 5 Draft. Did the Mets unnnecessarily add anybody to the 40-man roster? Did the Mets leave any glaring omissions and fail to add anybody to the 40-man roster that should’ve been? Finally, the Wilponery of the Week. From Complex To Queens, Episode 142: 2021 St. Lucie Mets review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2744

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. With the fifth week of Arizona Fall League action done and in the books, Steve reviews how the Mets’ contingent did. After, the team discusses the 2021 St. Lucie Mets season. The St. Lucie Mets ended the season with a 60-5 record, the only non-complex, full-season team to post a record above .500 in 2021. Despite ending the season atop the standings in the Low-A Southeast East, narrowly edging out the Jupiter Hammerheads, who had more wins but an inferior win-loss record, the St. Lucie Mets missed the playoffs due to coronavirus-inspired postseason rule changes that hopefully will be temporary and not continue into 2022 and beyond.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 107: Sandy, can’t you see I’m in misery? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4118

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the debacle that is the Mets’ front office search and how it is becoming increasingly clear that it is not “the pressures of New York” that are deterring candidates, but rather the New York Mets. We also talk about Zack Scott’s dismissal and the latest that has come out about the circumstances surrounding his firing. We also pay tribute to the late Pedro Feliciano in the aftermath of his sudden passing. Next, we talk about a report from Business Insider that details sexual misconduct by Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy and discuss the toxic culture built by Barstool that continues to uphold men like Portnoy and Trevor Bauer. We also discuss MLB’s requirement that teams cover housing for minor leaguers starting in 2022—a victory for minor league players and their advocates, but something that should be the beginning of change, and not the end. From Complex To Queens, Episode 141: 2021 Brooklyn Cyclones review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2410

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. With the fourth week of Arizona Fall League action done and in the books, Steve reviews how the Mets’ contingent did. After, the team discusses the 2021 Brooklyn Cyclones season. The Cyclones ended the season with a 48-70 record, dead last in the High-A Northeast East, 22.0 games behind the first place Hudson Valley Renegades. While the team itself might not have racked up the wins, several individual players lived up to expectations and several more outperformed how we thought they would perform. On the flip side, sadly, some did not exactly live up to expectations. Still, good or bad, who can’t appreciate Brooklyn baseball? Got questions? Comments? Concerns?  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 81: Maybe use LinkedIn? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4471

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. With Chris taking a well deserved vacation, Brian recruited former Amazin’ Avenue writer Jack McLoone to join him in discussing the Mets’ continued struggles to fill a front office. After a brief diversion into the (now failed) mayoral run of Bobby Valentine, they look to the Mets 2022 roster and offer some suggestions/theories as for how to proceed.  UnforMETable, Episode 73: Joe Sambito | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2262

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. The Brooklyn-born Joe Sambito had a dominant stretch as a reliever for the Houston Astros in the late 70s and early 80s. While he had great personal success—making an appearance in the All-Star Game in 1979—his team couldn’t quite get over the hump in the playoffs, suffering heartbreaking playoff defeats in 1980 and 1981. Sambito’s career was derailed in 1982 by Tommy John surgery. He wouldn’t make it back to the majors until 1984, and could never quite regain his previous form. He hoped to get back to form with his hometown team, but struggled mightily for the 1985 Mets. As fate would have it, he would latch on with Boston in 1986, where he would assume a role in the bullpen for a team that would finally see some playoff success—only to fall short in the World Series against the Mets. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable).
