 A Pod of Their Own, Episode 119: METSCON 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5575

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin with the bad news: the stress reaction in Jacob deGrom’s scapula that’s going to cost him about two months of his season. It’s a huge blow to the Mets and we discuss whether the team will be able to weather the storm. Next, we talk about the trade that almost was (Dominic Smith to the Padres for Eric Hosmer, Chris Paddack, and Emilio Pagan) and the trade that actually was (Miguel Castro to the Yankees for Joely Rodríguez). We note what a travesty it is that Miguel Castro had to shave his beard and dreadlocks due to the Yankees’ archaic (and discriminatory) hair policy. We also discuss the more minor, but still potentially concerning injuries in camp (Nimmo’s neck, Scherzer’s hamstring, etc.) and name Our Dudes for the 2022 season. In our baseball segment this week, we discuss improving conditions for minor leaguers and areas that still need improvement. We also talk about Trevor Bauer’s defamation lawsuit against Molly Knight and The Athletic and how it indicates that he is more interested in painting his accuser as a liar than he is in returning to the mound for the Dodgers. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. We chat with Liz about how she fell in love with baseball, what it was like getting hired during the lockout, issues of diversity and equity in baseball, the future of the Mets organization, our shared love of animals, and more.  We wrap things up like we always do with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 161: 2022 Predictions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4340

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. In honor of Ponce De Leon and the Fountain of Youth, the team discusses players who had incredible careers on the wrong side of 40 in Promote, Extend, Trade. Next, Steve, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas give updates on their Way-Too-Early Draft Special players of interest. After that, the team reviews their predictions for the 2021 season made last year. Following that, the team gives their predictions for the 2022 minor league season, split into mild, medium, and spicy takes. Steve thinks that Jake Mangum will be a top 10 prospect in the system, the 2022 Brooklyn Cyclones will have the best rotation since the legendary 2012 rotation, and that Matthew Allan will drop out of the top 10 prospect list in 2023. Lukas thinks that Nick Plummer will have 150+ league average or better at-bats in 2022, Dominic Hamel will be an elite RP prospect by the end of the season, and Joel Diaz will be a top-100 prospect in baseball by the end of the season. Ken thinks that the Mets will draft at least 3 top 10 2023 prospects in the 2022 MLB Draft, Francisco Alvarez is a top 5 prospect in baseball heading into the 2023 season, and Brett Baty hits 35 homers across all levels in 2022. Thomas thinks that Brett Baty will hit more fly balls, Eric Orze becomes an important member of the 2022 Mets’ bullpen, and that Francisco Alvarez will be the third catcher on the Mets’ depth chart by 2023. Wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week. As always, you can listen or subscribe to the podcast through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 116: The hills are alive with the sound of gloves popping | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5617

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the moves that the Mets have made since the end of the lockout—the acquisition of Chris Bassitt from the Oakland A’s and the signing of Adam Ottavino. We also discuss early notes from Mets camp, including Pete Alonso’s very scary brush with death. We also talk about the Mets parting ways with vice president and chief marketing officer David Newman, which may or may not have anything to do with his past actions. And we talk about Steve Cohen seemingly not caring a whole lot about the Steve Cohen tax. In our baseball segment this week, we celebrate the return of our national pastime from a long, dark winter. We go over the highlights from the new CBA and discuss how rules around vaccination in Canada and New York City could affect the Yankees, Mets, and many other teams who roster unvaccinated players. Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. After that, they give updates on their Way-Too-Early Draft Special players of interest. Following that, Steve, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas discuss the fallout of the Chris Bassitt for JT Ginn & Adam Oller trade. Who won? Are we happy? Are we sad? Nothing really matters, anyone can see; Nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me! Wrapping things up, the team talks about how the lockout affected the Mets 40-man roster, the implications of the cancellation of the Rule 5 Draft, and who they would’ve wanted to have seen drafted if the process had taken place back in December uninterrupted.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 115: At least Guy Fieri isn’t bad for the environment | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4394

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the only good baseball news that has happened of late: the two historic hires made by the Mets.  But next, we talk about the thing everyone else is talking about: the second time the start of the MLB season has been delayed in the course of three years. This time, it’s because there is not a new collective bargaining agreement. Like most of you, we are angry. And we are sad. Because we love baseball, even if Rob Manfred does not. Finally, we wrap things up with a desperately needed Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 75: Rick Cerone | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1860

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. A New Jersey native who starred at Seton Hall, Rick Cerone seemed perfectly suited to play baseball in New York. It just took him a little while to get there.  Drafted in the first round by Cleveland, Cerone was traded to the expansion Toronto Blue Jays, where he caught the first game in franchise history and established himself.  Cerone was traded home to the Yankees in 1980 following Thurman Munson’s tragic death. He had a career year in 1980 before clashing with George Steinbrenner and getting exiled—and brought back again.  After his third departure from the Yankees, the 37 year old was anxious to stay close to home and play for a contender. The 1991 Mets would seem to fill both bills. But while Cerone would have a solid season in orange and blue, the 1991 Mets decidedly would not.   As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, or listen wherever you get podcasts. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable). Tune in next week for another tale from the Mets’ past. Learn more about your ad choices.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 157: School spirit! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3471

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. Happy birthday Brian Bannister, one of four Brooklyn Cyclones to have their number retired. Steve, Ken, and Thomas discuss who the next inductee should be in Promote, Extend, Trade. After that, they give updates on their Way-Too-Early Draft Special players of interest. Following that, they spend a little more time discussing college baseball. Unlike a few other major American sports, college is not a feeder system to the highest level of the professional leagues and the team highlights why that is and some of the reasons why. Wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week. Got questions? Comments? Concerns?  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 114: A friendly reminder that athletes are human | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4777

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the return of Old Timers’ Day and getting excited about being able to Remember Some Guys.  Then, we talk about Matt Harvey’s testimony in the trial of former Angels employee Eric Kay, in which he admitted to using cocaine and oxycodone and said that use of the latter is prevalent in baseball. We also talked about Terry Collins’ irresponsible interview, in which he revealed details of Harvey’s mental health struggles during his time with the Mets. Next, we discuss the ongoing lockout and the latest in CBA talks, as a timely start to the season hangs in jeopardy. We also cover how minor leaguers in particular are affected by the current lockout. We spend a brief amount of time on Trevor Bauer not facing charges for the allegations of sexual assault against him and on additional allegations of misconduct against Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy. We recommend this column on Bauer from the Los Angeles Times. We also talk about the Olympics and how issues we discuss often on this podcast—exploitation of minors and mental health struggles in sports—are front and center in Beijing.
