From Complex To Queens, Episode 140: 2021 Binghamton Rumble Ponies review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2974

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. With the third week of Arizona Fall League action done and in the books, Steve reviews how the Mets’ contingent did. After, the team discusses the 2021 Binghamton Rumble Ponies season. The Ponies ended the season with a 47-60 record, third place in the Double-A Northeast Northeast, 19.0 games behind the first place Somerset Patriots. While the team itself might not have racked up the wins (thought had it not been for a COVID-19 outbreak, they might have won a few more and might have even made at run at .500 for the season), several individual players on the team lived up to expectations and several more outperformed how we thought they would perform.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 106: A conversation with Devin Gordon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6088

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we have Devin Gordon—author of a new book about the Mets and a recent (fantastic) ESPN piece about the 2021 season—on the show to talk about what went wrong with the 2021 Mets, where the Mets go from here with their front office, and his writing process and capturing the unique psychology of Mets fandom.  We wrap up the show this week with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 139: 2021 Syracuse Mets review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2691

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. With the second week of Arizona Fall League action done and in the books, Steve reviews how the Mets’ contingent did. Following that, the team discusses the 2021 Syracuse Mets, who ended the season with a 47-69 record, tied for worst in the Triple-A East Northeast along with the Rochester Red Wings, and one of the worst records in the entire all of Triple-A baseball (East and West) period. Suffice to say, it was not the type of season that we expected going into the beginning of the year. Got questions? Comments? Concerns?  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 81: Please don’t order the Alderson Sandwich | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3202

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The Mets cannot seem to land the front office personnel that they want, and so they find themselves in the same place they’ve been for three of the last four postseasons: without the proper resources to put together an on-field team. Also discussed are the potential qualifying offers the Mets may consider and how much of a full tear down this team needs. Chris’s Music Pick: Ezra Furman - Twelve Nudes Brian’s Music Pick: Van Halen - Fair Warning You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 72: Timo Perez | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1845

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Timo Perez began his professional baseball career over in Japan before the Mets scouted him and took a flyer on him prior to the 2000 season. A strong minor league campaign earned him a September call up, and his speed and versatility helped him find a place on the Mets’ postseason roster. When regular right fielder Derek Bell went down with an ankle sprain in the first game of the playoffs, manager Bobby Valentine somewhat surprisingly turned to Perez to take over for him. Perez immediately provided the desired spark and seemed destined to put himself in the lore of unlikely baseball postseason heroes, until an unfortunate base running mistake cost the Mets a run in a World Series Game 1 they would lose in extra innings. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable).  From Complex To Queens, Episode 138: All-Organization Teams | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3902

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. First up, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas tackle a Promote, Extend, Trade. Lukas is in charge this week, so you just know he has to make it about Mass Effect. Next, the team goes over the Mets’ performances in the AFL. Are they meaningless? Probably! Thankfully our discussion got interrupted by some great breaking news, as MLB announced that they will provide minor leaguers with housing starting next season. We’ll discuss that in more detail on next week’s pod. After that, we go over our all-organization teams. Suffice it to say, filling out a full second team from this system is a bleak proposition. Wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week. As always, you can listen or subscribe to the podcast through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 137: All-Stars | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4075

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. First up, Steve, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas tackle a listener-provided Promote, Extend, Trade. Next, the team previews the upcoming Arizona Fall League season. Does everyone going to Arizona belong? Were there any snubs? After, with Major League Baseball having awarded its All-Star awards, the team reviews all of the recipients and discuss the Mets players who won. Wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week.  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 80: Hit the Road, Rojas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2875

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. With the end of the 2021 season just passed, Chris and Brian look at the possible outcomes of the Mets’ failure to make the playoffs. The dismissal of Luis Rojas, which was absolutely expected, happened on Monday, and so the off-season strategy for populating both the front office and the coaching staff is discussed, as well as a playoff preview.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 105: Mets report card | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7383

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by handing out grades to each Mets player, as well as the front office and Luis Rojas. We also discuss Luis Rojas’ firing and the latest front office rumors. Next, we talk about a piece from Michael Rosenberg of Sports Illustrated bringing in BDSM experts to discuss the Trevor Bauer situation.  We also talk about two prominent pieces in ESPN and The Athletic about the mental health crisis in the minor leagues and the poor conditions players face—an issue that is thankfully receiving more national attention as we head into CBA negotiations in the offseason. We would like to thank each of our Dollars for Dingers pledgers, who helped us raise over $12,000 for the National Domestic Violence Hotline this year. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 71: D.J. Dozier | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1678

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. D.J. Dozier was a three sport star in high school, excelling in baseball as well as football and basketball. While he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 18th round out of high school, his future seemed to lie in football, as Dozier accepted a scholarship to—and starred at running back for—Penn State. Dozier won a National Championship in college and was a first round draft pick in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings, But he never quite abandoned his interest in baseball. He would sign a free agent contract with the Mets and work his way up through the minors in 1990-91—while continuing his football career over the winter. In 1992, Dozier would make it to the majors with the Mets for 47 at bats, making him one of the rare athletes to play in two professional sport leagues.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 136: Living that minor league life | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3684

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. This week, the team discusses Thanksgiving sides in Promote, Extend, Trade, as George Washington called for a national day of prayer and thanksgiving on this date back in 1789. Following that, the team recaps the past week in Mets minor league baseball. After, they discuss the players who won the Mets Player Development Position Player/Pitcher of the Year Awards and Mets Dominican Academy Position Player/Pitcher of the Year Awards. Next, on the heels of a yet another emotional expose, this time by Joon Lee of ESPN, the team talks about the conditions that minor league players deal with year in and year out. Next, the team goes big for the last Oh Yeah, That Guy! of the year and reminiscences about the teenage hitting machine himself, Fernando Martinez. Wrapping things up, the Wilponery of the Week. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we’re coming at you LIVE from Dollars for Dingers 2021! We also talk about the vital work of the National Domestic Violence Hotline and how the Gabby Petito case underscores the need for awareness and advocacy.  At our in-person raffle event, we raised $750 to benefit the National Domestic Violence Hotline, bringing our total amount of money raised during our Dollars for Dingers 2021 effort to almost $9,000. A huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out and supported us and to everyone who has pledged in our fundraiser.  UnforMETable, Episode 70: Kenny Greer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1603

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Kenny Greer is a member of a somewhat exclusive club—one of the few players involved in a rare trade between the Mets and Yankees. The career minor leaguer toiled for six years in the Yankees organization before coming to the Mets for Frank Tanana in an also rare September trade in 1993. Thanks to a confluence of expanded September rosters and an incredibly long 17 inning game, Greer got an opportunity to make his MLB debut—and throw one of his 13 career MLB innings—as a New York Met, hurling a perfect 17th inning and recording a win—his only career victory, and one of only 59 in a painful 1993 season for the Mets. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable).
