Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the incredible position the Mets find themselves in, despite missing both Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer (and others). We shout out the Nick Plummers and Colin Holdermans of the world that are stepping up to contribute. We also talk about where the various injured Mets are at with their rehab. In our baseball segment this week, we talk about a recent column from Jeff Passan of ESPN on a memo MLB issued to teams regarding inadequate stadium facilities for female employees.  Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 126: On the precipice | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3860

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the blow to the Mets’ rotation in the loss of Max Scherzer for 6-8 weeks. We talk about how they can weather the storm (which probably won’t involve more starts from Thomas Szapucki) and how Tuesday’s loss was encouraging, even if it was infuriating. Next, we talk about Josh Donaldson’s racist remarks toward Tim Anderson. We encourage you to listen to the words of Bradford William Davis on this issue. For all the flack we gave the Yankees that chose to defend Donaldson (which was far from a unanimous sentiment), we gave the organization credit for partnering with the Rays to acknowledge the tragedy in Texas this week by tweeting out factoids about the gun violence epidemic in America during last night’s game. Sports have always been political and we applaud the Rays and Yankees for using their platforms for good. Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 96: The Shallow End of Pitching Depth | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2231

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The Mets finished up their road trip in less than stellar fashion, but Chris and Brian try not to panic and realize that the team is still in the catbird seat in the NL East. We also discuss Chris Bassitt’s new deal and the state of the Mets’ starting pitching Chris’s Music Pick: Dry Cleaning - New Long Leg Brian’s Music Pick: Dave King Trucking Company - Good Old Light You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 81: Jose Offerman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1163

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. 2005 was a year of big changes for the Mets: new GM, new manager, new superstars. One of the new additions who did not get the front page headlines - at least not while playing for the Mets - was Jose Offerman. His pre and post Mets careers are far more eventful than his time in Queens, but that’s why we are here, isn’t it? As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  From Complex To Queens, Episode 169: College Pitching Prospect Update | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2673

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the Amazin’ Avenue podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. In honor of Lou Gehrig becoming the first player with three three-homer games, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas debate three homer games in Met history in Promote, Extend, Trade. Next, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas give updates on their Way-Too-Early Draft Special players of interest. We debate some draft philosophies, lament our inability to pierce the veil of the Mets’ front office’s thinking, do a Brady House update, and reinforce our group’s fondness for polished college outfielders. Here’s hoping Gavin Cross falls to 11. After, the guys review how the Syracuse Mets, Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Brooklyn Cyclones, and St. Lucie Mets did this past week. Spoiler alert, it wasn’t great. Finally. we discuss the pool of college pitchers the Mets drafted in rounds 4-10 last year. Mike Vasil and Carson Seymour are moving on up. Levi David and Dominic Hamel, not so much. As always, you can listen or subscribe to the podcast through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  Amazin' Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 95: We Were Wrong | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2352

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The Mets have continued to play good baseball, despite losing both their first series of the year, and also two more starting pitchers to the IL. Chris and Brian were optimistic - but wrong - when they recorded this, but hey, that Pete walk off was dope, eh? Chris’s Music Pick: Kevin Morby - This is a Photograph Brian’s Music Pick: Proud Parents - Proud Parents You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 80: Brian Cole | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1159

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. The 2006 Mets came within a two runs of winning the National League pennant and making it to the World Series for the first time since 2000. The 2007 Mets came within a game of making the postseason. In 2008, history repeated itself, as the team was eliminated from postseason play on their last day of the regular season by the Florida Marlins for the second straight year. With Jose Reyes and David Wright emerging as budding stars, a third homegrown phenom would have made all the difference, and that was exactly what Brian Cole was expected to be.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 125: In a world full Chase Utleys, be a Jesse Winker | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5531

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the injuries to James McCann and Tylor Megill and how the Mets are already at the bottom of their depth in mid-May. But, at least yesterday’s update on Jacob deGrom was positive! Next, we talk about the various narratives that emerged from the Mariners series—rehashing the Díaz/Canó trade and Jesse Winker being a fun Mets villain. We also discuss the weird grudge Paul Sewald seems to hold against the Mets and the fanbase. We also briefly discuss Matt Harvey’s 60-game suspension for distributing oxycodone, which may end his career. Inspired by an email that became a meme, Steve, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas decide between From Complex To Queens memes, in Promote, Extend, Trade. Next, Steve, Lukas, Ken, and Thomas give updates on their Way-Too-Early Draft Special players of interest. After, they discuss one of the latest mock drafts and discuss recent events involving player who is a major reason why the Mets will be drafting they way they will in 2022. After, the guys review how the Syracuse Mets, Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Brooklyn Cyclones, and St. Lucie Mets did this past week.  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 94: 21-11 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2710

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. The Mets played less baseball than usual this past week, but managed to win a series with the Phillies, make a near unbelievable comeback, and continued to be, dare we say, good. We also discuss the emergence of Carlos Carrasco, the solid relief work the team has been getting, and complain about the baseball.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 124: Chris Bassitt has lefty energy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5578

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the Mets, who are now 20-10. We talk about how sweet it is to have two historic moments—the combined no-hitter and the seven-run ninth inning comeback—against the Phillies. We also talk about the Mets’ decision to release Robinson Canó, injury updates on Jacob deGrom and Trevor May, and Chris Bassitt expressing openness to an extension, which the Mets should absolutely do. In our baseball segment this week, we discuss the 324-game suspension Major League Baseball handed down to Trevor Bauer, which he is appealing, and pray this is the last time we ever have to mention Bauer’s name on the podcast.  Maggie also shares her family’s experience with the new sensory nook at Citi Field and talks about improvements that could be made. Finally, we shout out New Jersey-based artist and friend of the pod Elise Dodeles, who made a video about her painting project depicting women in baseball, supported by the Russell J. Efros Foundation. Her artwork is absolutely fantastic and you should check it all out on her website. We wrap things up like we always do with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 79: Roberto Petagine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1690

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Roberto Petagine was a solid prospect with an excellent batting eye who lacked the power traditionally required of first basemen. Petagine seemed to plateau in AAA, excelling there but struggling to break through on the major league level. Petagine played well for Bobby Valentine at AAA Norfolk in 1996, earning himself some time in the majors once Valentine took over from the fired Dallas Green. However, the Mets’ offseason acquisition of John Olerud closed any windows to regular playing time for Petagine. Still, he would earn a late season call up in 1997, and play a crucial role in a memorable Mets comeback in a big September game.
