A Pod of Their Own, Episode 76: A conversation with Deesha Thosar | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3001

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we welcome Deesha Thosar from the Daily News to discuss covering the Mets and her observations from spring training.  We also had to talk about the tumultuous offseason including the firing of Jared Porter and Sandy Alderson’s handling of the situation. You should definitely read Deesha’s piece she wrote the night the Porter news broke to get her perspective of what it is like to be a woman working in the baseball industry. We turned to some lighter subjects including her viral tweet of the team celebrating the 27 outs drill, her favorite story of the time the team plane was delayed because of Dom Smith, and the article she wrote after Mickey Callaway threatened a reporter. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. Every Thursday, deputy site manager Brian Salvatore has been hosting a chat on the Locker Room app, where Mets fans can have a talk-radio like experience discussing the topic of the week. This week, the room's theme was 'the biggest misses of the off-season." In addition to the usual suspects - George Springer, Jackie Bradly Jr,, and some bullpen help - the gang also discusses the lack of Asian players in Major League Baseball, the World Baseball Classic, and why Kevin Pillar and Brandon Nimmo might be a damn good platoon.  Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), Episode 53: Roster Prognostication | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3346

Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore. Right before recording, the news broke that Carlos Carrasco’s elbow was barking a bit, and the Panic City Digest went back into production. Brian and Chris try not to subscribe right away, but are a little concerned about the bullpen. They also discuss the José Martinez injury and the reassignment of Trevor Hildenberger in camp. Then, Chris and Brian attempt to predict the 26-man Opening Day roster. While most of the offensive positions are pretty well set, there are a fair amount of pitching questions. With the steep wager of one draft beer, who will get closer to the actual roster with their guesses and taste victory when the world opens up? Chris’s Music Picks: Altin Gün - Yol Brian’s Music Pick: Perfect - Once, Twice, Three Times a Maybe You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 75: The Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5437

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the Taijuan Walker signing, José Martínez’s unfortunate knee injury, and the Mets’ resulting interest in third baseman Maikel Franco to provide righty pop off the bench. We also discuss spring training storylines, with the bullpen and defense being areas of concern. We conclude our Mets segment by expressing our excitement about the impending extension talks between the Mets and Francisco Lindor this week.  In our baseball segment this week, we discussed former Seattle Mariners president Kevin Mather’s chat with the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club, which embodied a lot of the things wrong with the game today—racism, collusion, service time manipulation, and other general rich guy nonsense. These things are not exclusive to Mather or the Mariners, but Mather happened to say them all out loud on video for everyone, including his own players, to hear. We also remind our listeners that, as of today, Mickey Callaway still has a job. UnforMETable, Episode 45: Matt Lawton | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2180

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. A batboy in the Mets’ organization when his brother Marcus played in the team’s minor league system, it might have seemed fated that Matt Lawton would suit up for the Mets. Lawton came to the Mets at the 2001 trading deadline, where the struggling team were clear sellers, only to be part of a team that had a memorable and emotional stretch run highlighted by Mike Piazza’s memorable post-9/11 home run. The team saw the skilled, all-around player as a potential piece of the future, but when the ultimately ill-fated opportunity arose to bring Roberto Alomar to Queens, Lawton’s tenure as a Met came to an abrupt end. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by evaluating the Mets’ offseason—the moves the Mets have made, the holes that still need to be filled, the likelihood that we see Lindor or Conforto extensions, and more.  Next, we talk about the structure for the season agreed upon by Major League Baseball and MLBPA.  We also shout two pieces of baseball writing that we enjoyed reading this week: one from RJ McDaniel at Fangraphs and one from Shakeia Taylor at Baseball Prospectus.  UnforMETable, Episode 44: Joan Payson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1995

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Although Joan Whitney Payson was certainly not obscure in her day—whether as a socialite from a prominent New York family, or in her endeavors in the worlds of art, horse racing, and philanthropy. But Payson’s other love was baseball—she owned a small stake in the New York Giants, and fought to keep them in New York when the team moved to San Francisco. Which made her a natural fit as an owner to help spearhead a drive to bring a new baseball team to New York—first in a proposed new league, but ultimately as a New York entrant in the National League that would soon be christened the Metropolitans. As fans celebrate the new owner of the New York Mets, and the promising direction that Steve Cohen’s ownership seems to augur, we look back at the woman who shepherded the franchise into existence.
