A Pod of Their Own, Episode 62: There are no angels in baseball | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4324

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the Wilpons officially selling to Steve Cohen and our complicated feelings on the matter.  Next, we talk about how once again Rob Manfred dropped the ball when it came to playing games in unhealthy conditions and how we’re not sure if he knows what the definition of a bubble is.  We then move on to “unwritten rules” once again making headlines and how respect only applies to certain baseball players. To wrap up our baseball segment we discuss how dangerous a certain reporter can be when he continually gets scoops wrong but his latest screw up led to very real consequences for Giants’ player Alex Dickerson. We were excited to announce a LIVE pod that will take place on September 26. It will be a Zoom event where we draw the winners from our #Dollars4Dingers fundraiser while we watch the Mets. Join us if you can! Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, Spotify, or listen wherever you get podcasts. You can follow A Pod of Their Own on Twitter (@apodoftheirown) and you can also follow all of our co-hosts on Twitter: Allison McCague (@PetitePhD), Maggie Wiggin (@maggie162), and Linda Surovich (@LindaSurovich).  From Complex To Queens, Episode 79: So sayth the Neimoidian “Now there are two of them!” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3872

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the podcast Amazin’ Avenue focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. With the Major League Baseball season having come to a premature end on this date in 1994, the team discusses events that they would’ve liked to have seen in Promote, Extend, Trade. After, Steve gives us an update on our adopted CPBL team, the Uni-President Lions, our adopted KBO team, the LG Twins, and our adopted NPB team, the Yakult Swallows. Next, the team discusses some roster minutia involving Franklyn Kilome and his potential role going forward. Finally, they look at the career arcs of two players who are trending in very different directions- Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez- and try to figure out what would be best for the team going forward. As always, you can listen or subscribe to the podcast through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps!  UnforMETable, Episode 41: Bill Denehy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1846

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Bill Denehy was a wild, fireballing young right-handed prospect in a Mets organization suddenly rife with them in the 1960s. Denehy’s fastball was considered second only to Nolan Ryan’s, and the team likely envisioned both of them headlining a rotation with the team’s recent young acquisition—Tom Seaver. The Topps baseball card company agreed, featuring Denehy on a now quite valuable Mets’ Future Stars card alongside Seaver. Unfortunately, while Tom Terrific cruised to the National League Rookie of the Year Award, Denehy struggled and dealt with injuries, leaving the Mets willing to part with his as compensation to bring in the team’s desired manager from Washington—Gil Hodges. Injuries and battles with addiction and rage short-circuited Denehy’s career, but he had a colorful and ultimately redemptive post-baseball life, and recently reminisced fondly about his former teammate and baseball card neighbor. As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 61: Temper Tantrum Week | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4581

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the Mets’ dire starting pitching situation, with recent bad outings by Michael Wacha and David Peterson. We go on to talk about the Phillies series, in which Bryce Harper throwing a fit and getting ejected was a highlight. Speaking of throwing a fit, we also talked about A-Rod and J-Lo’s frustration with the Mets’ bidding process and their desperate attempt to save their bid. Joe West also got mad this week—at Nationals’ GM Mike Rizzo. And he made some rather curious comments about the incident, which we covered. We also announced our final #Dollars4Dingers pledge total of $2,153.40. Thank you, listeners! From Complex To Queens, Episode 78: Trade Talk, Catchers, Kurosawa | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3215

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, the podcast Amazin’ Avnue focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. Forging ahead without Steve (who will be back next week), we start by remembering Akira Kurosawa, who died on September 6th 1985 in Promote-Extend-Trade.\ After that, we check in our adopted NPBL, KBO, and NPB teams. In short, time to give up the Swallows and go all in on the Twins. We then talk about the two (technically three) trades the Mets made at the deadline last week, starting with Miguel Castro and ending on Todd Frazier and Robinson Chirinos. That extends into a long discussion about the Mets’ catching situation, who they might bring in next year, and a very interesting reclamation project that should be available this offseason.  A Pod of Their Own, Episode 59: A conversation with Jen Ramos | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4688

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we welcome Jen Ramos to the show and begin by discussing the Mets’ COVID situation and how that impacts the team the rest of the way. Next, we talk about Thom Brennaman using a homophobic slur on air and Jen Ramos discusses how baseball can do a much better job of being more inclusive and welcoming to the LGBTQ community. They gave the example of Kobe Bryant being suspended for using the same slur so Brennaman claiming ignorance of its meaning rang hollow. They also talked about minor leaguer Tyler Dunnington who sadly quit baseball after overhearing teammates say gays should be killed and how baseball is losing talented people because they feel unwelcome in the sport.  UnforMETable, Episode 40: Claudell Washington | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1940

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Claudell Washington debuted in Oakland as a teenager at the tail end of the A’s early 1970s dynasty. While he never quite lived up to some predictions of a Hall of Fame level career, Washington became a solid, well-traveled offensive contributor. His fascinating, lengthy career brought him to the Mets in 1980, where Washington had a solid half-season—including one historic three home run game that placed his name on a short list with Babe Ruth and Johnny Mize.
