A Pod of Their Own, Episode 67: Winter meetings and more with Elizabeth Muratore | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4860

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we have Elizabeth Muratore of our sister blog Rising Apple on the show. We begin by discussing Elizabeth’s Mets fandom and how she began writing about the Mets. We also wax poetic about the Mets blogging community and going to Mets games in the Before Times. Next, we talk about the Trevor May signing and what we expect out of the new regime at this week’s winter meetings.  In our baseball segment, we discuss why executives might be turned off by Steve Cohen’s bold proclamations and how it is one example of an ongoing disturbing cost-cutting mindset in front offices (especially in the time of COVID-19). We cite the Phillies’ failed rebuild, the Rays not building on their success, and the prominent non-tenders across baseball as other indicators. We also salute the late Dick Allen, who should be in the Hall of Fame. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. Welcome to Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show), the new/old favorite from Amazin’ Avenue editors Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore.  This week, Brian and Chris reconvene for the first time in nearly 2 months (!) to discuss the state of the Mets' front office under Steve Cohen and the lack of a current general manager. Next, they discuss the decision to tender contracts to Steven Matz and Robert Gsellman, and the decision to non-tender four players, including Paul Sewald and Chasen Shrieve. With four more spots on the 40-Man Roster, Chris and Brian spotlight five potential players who were no-tendered by their clubs today that may make sense for the Mets in one way or another. Finally, the two newest Met relievers, Trevor May and Jacob Barnes, get the spotlight as the bullpen remaking begins. Chris’s Music Picks: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - K.G. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing Sandy Alderson becoming the president of baseball operations after their search did not go as they hoped. We then move on to Robinson Cano’s suspension for PEDs and what that means for the team as well as Charlie Morton signing with the Braves.  APOTO (The Show) Episode 1: I'm the Cake Boss | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6513

Welcome to APOTO (The Show), an all-star show hosted by Linda Surovich and Allison McCague from A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue and Brian Salvatore from Amazin’ Avenue Audio (The Show). This is the first, but hopefully not the last, collaborative show of this kind during the 2020/2021 offseason. First up, we discuss new Mets owner Steve Cohen’s introductory press conference, where he not only got up the hopes of the entire Mets fanbase, but also broke some new ground for ownership by saying “Black lives do matter” into a microphone at an official team event. We discuss Cohen’s wealth, his management style, and some of the ideas he hopes to implement to the Mets in 2020. Next up, we discuss Marcus Stroman, a new/old Met, who accepted the team’s Qualifying Offer on Wednesday. The $18.9 million contract helps the Mets’ rotation in a number of ways, and may allow the team to avoid playing the Trevor Bauer game, especially as his price likely rose considerably after wining the National League Cy Young Award last night. Next, the show transitions into a discussion of new Chicago White Sox manager Tony LaRussa and the revelation of his 2020 arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. We move from this irresponsible behavior to the irresponsible behavior of Justin Turner, who celebrated on the field, mask down, after testing positive for COVID-19. Brian’s Music Pick: Stone Temple Pilots - Purple Linda’s Music Pick: Various Artist - Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Allison’s Music Picks: Frederik Wiedmann - The Dragon Prince, Season 1 Soundtrack YG and Nipsey Hustle - “FDT” Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.  UnforMETable, Episode 43: Mickey Lolich | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1842

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Mickey Lolich was a young, fireballing left-hander who had a notable career with the Detroit Tigers. Lolich had the fortune to shine brightest on MLB’s biggest stage, spinning three complete game victories in winning the World Series MVP in the Tigers’ 1967 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals. When the Mets decided to part with a beloved and productive member of the franchise in Rusty Staub after the 1975 season, the team brought the veteran Lolich to New York in an ill-fated trade. While the 1976 team had a decent season, Lolich did not enjoy his time in New York—so much so that he retired for a year rather than fulfill the last year of his contract. As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, or listen wherever you get podcasts. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable). Tune in next week for another tale from the Mets’ past. Learn more about your ad choices.
