Home Run Applesauce: A New York Mets podcast show

Summary: Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the latest on the Lindor extension talks, which are still not resolved, despite now being less than 48 hours away from Opening Day. We hoped we would get to break news live on the podcast as we recorded Tuesday night, but alas, it did not happen. But we did get to discuss our general excitement about Opening Day and the fact that the Mets promoted a woman to be Head Team Physician.  We also talked about reporting from The Athletic that revealed that the Mets have hired a law firm to review their workplace culture. While it is good they are doing something, we question whether a law firm is the right choice for this task. In the same article it is reported that MLB’s investigation of Mickey Callaway—who still has a job—will not be complete by Opening Day. In our baseball segment, we discussed the dubious framing of Odubel Herrera’s status with the Phillies as a labor issue, as well as actual labor issues, such as the Cubs lowballing their franchise player. To inject some levity into the show in light of Steve Cohen’s announcement that the black jerseys are coming back, we had a hearty debate about whether the black jerseys are good or bad; our hosts are evenly divided on this issue. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.
