"Brownells Police Store helps make this show possible. The Police Store has your tactical needs covered including Law Enforcement, Self Defense, and Security. Please visit www.tacticalparadise.com/police" I am getting ready for my backpacking trip!!! Gear Guide:  Kelty Backpack Main Topic:  Your CCW Questions Answered Hi Greg, I was listening to episode 061.  At the start of that episode, you hit on a short conversation about barrels.  This started me thinking about conversation barrels.  Many people use conversation barrels for training.  I would guess that some people use conversion barrels for their carry side arm.  For a point in time I carried a conversion barrel in my Glock 27; converting it to a 9mm.  After reading some discussion on this topic on Glock Talk forums, I am no longer using a conversion barrel in my carry gun. Question, is there legal liability in carrying conversion barrels in carry side arms.  Does adding a conversion barrel in a carry gun constitute a modified weapon that carries with it possible criminal liability if that “modified” weapon is used in a defensive situation?  This question would also apply to hand loaded ammo.  Are there liabilities in carrying hand loaded ammo in a defensive situation? Thanks for doing your podcasts. keep up the good work Can I borrow a large capacity magazine? "32415. Section 32310 does not apply to the loan of a lawfully possessed large-capacity magazine between two individuals if all of the following conditions are met: (a) The person being loaned the large-capacity magazine is not prohibited by Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 29610), Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 29800), or Chapter 3 (commencing with Section 29900) of Division 9 of this title or Section 8100 or 8103 of the Welfare and Institutions Code from possessing firearms or (b) The loan of the large-capacity magazine occurs at a place or location where the possession of the large-capacity magazine is not otherwise prohibited, and the person who lends the large-capacity magazine remains in the accessible vicinity of the person to whom the large-capacity magazine is loaned." Can I modify my carry weapon? Our agency understands that some alterations made to a weapon are done for safety and usage purposes, rather than recreational reasons. Due to this, our agency is currently reviewing our past declaration of prohibition for any alterations of a weapon. At such time that we are able to post what, if any, alterations are accepted, we will update this website. Any questions will be discussed with our Range Master to determine validity and legality of alterations. Any alterations made on a weapon without the express approval from our agency will immediately result in the suspension of the existing CCW permit and possible permanent revocation of the permit. Training Trick:  For this weeks training trick, I want you to use a simple drill and run the drill support hand only.  If you don’t have a drill, use a 3x5 card on a target and start at 2 yards.  Shoot 5 rounds focusing on the basic fundamentals of shooting with your support hand.  Sight alignment, sight picture, and trigger control.  Once you feel confident at 2 yards, take it to 3 yards, 5 yards, 7 yards...

Gear Guide:  For this weeks gear guide, I want some feedback.  Are slide serrations worth it?  Adding serrations to any slide can be costly.  Is it more about looks or functionality?  You be the judge and let me know. Feedback@tacticalparadise.com Main Topic:  Operator Training Suggestions Sometimes, I getwriters block as I’m putting these shows together.  I put a lot of pressure on myself to come up with something worth sharing.  I don’t care to be the next biggest thing, but more of quality and real life based recommendations and thoughts. There’s so much tactical buzzwords out there these days… That’s actually why I called this show Tactical Paradise to begin with.  I wanted to  make fun of things I see out there in the “training” and firearms community. For instance, this week I was watching a video having to do with training and running a rifle.  The guy was all kitted out and looked like a real operator.  But his tactics, were a little goofy to me.  He failed to use his cover, neglected to work in any reloads to his drill, and lastly turned his back on his target.  I’m not saying there isn’t a time and place to turn your back on a target, but it would be very rare and I’d be getting the bleep out of dodge!!! You have to guard yourself against crappy training.  If you’ve been listening to me for a long time, you might remember another story on why I started this podcast.  My CCW instructor was awful!!!  He told me my stance and forward aggression when shooting was unnecessary.  I’m always open to criticism, but after having me watch him, I knew I was in the wrong class with the wrong instructor. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER!!!! Training Trick:  I was on instagram and reading about a trainer who felt that the saying, “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast” was an absolutely ridiculous training “saying” or “slogan”.  Well, the truth is that it’s not about training to be slow.  It’s training to be fast. "Brownells Police Store helps make this show possible. The Police Store has your tactical needs covered including Law Enforcement, Self Defense, and Security. Please visit www.tacticalparadise.com/police" Got the promotion!! Police seek man who shot hikers on California trail Gear Guide:KEY-BAR Main Topic:  Listener Feedback Last episode, I mad a correction about the previous podcast episode regarding the weight of a no weapons or guns sign allowed that might be posted on a storefront.  Do we have to obey them?  Well, here’s some more feedback. Here in PA no gun sighs do not hav the force of law making it legal for me to ignore them.  Federal and state buildings are exempt from this of course and are strictly off limits.  During a recent family trip to North carolina I learned that their no firearms signs have legal ramifications behind them.  I learned this by reading not by pain or other consequences which is all too often the way i learn things.  no guns means no guns.  www.handgunlaw.us was a great resource for traveling and learning local laws in the states that you travel through. Personally i try to honor  the signs, but in my pro firearm corner of PA there are not a lot of no firearms sighs and those that are up are easily avoided by using other retailers or businesses.  Concealed is concealed and as such no one should know you have a firearm unless you have to use it.  And if i have to use it its so serious that the legal ramifications of having a firearm in a potentially prohibited area will be outweighed by the immediate danger Hey Greg, You can Add Arkansas to the list of States where a NO GUN SIGN is backed by Force of Law if he Correct Sign is used and Placed Correctly as dictated by the law. Also, I believe Joseph Wilcox was a Hero in Las Vegas because of his intervention and unfortunately his death stopped the killing of any more innocents. After his death, at least one Shooter committed suicide to end the killing. GREAT SHOW, VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING!! www.handgunlaw.us This site is kept up to date on the gun laws in all 50 states.  There, all your listeners can get up to date information on laws in their state as well as states where they might be traveling. I looked up Pennsylvania laws to see about posted \"no gun\" locations.  The website does not recommend carry in no gun locations, but the signs carry no weight in law. The owner can ask you to leave, and if you do not, you are trespassing.  But you are not breaking the law if the location is not listed in the law as a location where carry in not allowed. In regards to Illinois. If a business owner posts the approved sign, you are breaking the law if you carry on that premises. The sign must be the approved sign. If you break this then you are comitting a misdemeanor. Greg, just listened to episode 59 & in regards to the topic of carrying onto or into a business or property that advertises not to. In the state of Missouri, where I live our law allows it, much like yours in California does. It is permissible & is not a crime misdemeanor or otherwise to do so. As you may or may not be aware certain businesses are nationwide "no guns allowed," such as Buffalo Wild Wings & AMC Theaters, both of which we have in my community do not allow firearms. While I try to avoid BWW because of this, I cannot avoid AMC as they are the only movie theater in town & it carry in there quite regularly. One other question I would like to raise is, if it's concealed will anyone know it's there? Last week I posed the question, “Why do we hold Officers to a higher standard?” Hi Greg, I am enjoying your latest Tactical Paradise episode and wanted to provide some feedback.  First,

Welcome to Tactical Paradise!!!  I’m your host Greg Bakken.  In this podcast we’ll talk about all things tactical from everyday carry, to the mindset of armed citizens, real life situations and scenarios and the gear that will help you survive.  This is episode 60. "Brownells Police Store helps make this show possible. The Police Store has your tactical needs covered including Law Enforcement, Self Defense, and Security. Please visit www.tacticalparadise.com/police" Tactical Paradise 58 I am a Texas CHL instructor so I try very hard to always know what I’m talking about.  I never tell people to break the law.  I wish you would do the same! As a law enforcement officer why would you tell people to break the law? You told people to ignore no gun signs because property rights do not trump 2nd amendment rights.  You should do your research before shooting your mouth off.  In most states with a CHL/CCW law the it is written in the penal code what signs a licenses holder must obey. In Texas it PC 30.06 that gives the property own the authority to keep firearms off their property. Disregarding a sign is a class a misdemeanor punishable with up to one year in jail, a $15000.00 fine and you will lose your CHL for five years.  I am familiar with the concealed carry laws in a half dozen other states and all have similar statutes. Some like Texas require specific sign others any sign will do. If you are looking for someone to challenge the constitutionality of these laws, please mention how much that will coast. Texas Penal Code 30.06 California Concealed Carry Permit Information Gear Guide:Spyderco Main Topic:  Good Man With a Gun Tactical Paradise 59 Thanks for quickly addressing the recent shootings, specifically the Vegas incident.  The Vegas incident involved a CCW permit holder.  Unfortunately, the CCW holder, Mr. Wilcox did not survive the encounter.  This very well publicized event and its tragic outcome can be used as a learning lesson for the average Americans who hold CCW permits. I have heard some use this event to say that CCW permits holders are ineffective because in this case the good guy with a gun did not stop the pad guy with a gun. Please spend some time, maybe multiple shows with other experts and talking about tactics in situations like the event in Las Vegas. Gun related forums are ablaze with conversation about this incident, mainly because a CCW permit holder was involved. Citizen permit holders would benefit from conversations on this topic.
