"Brownells Police Store helps make this show possible. The Police Store has your tactical needs covered including Law Enforcement, Self Defense, and Security. Please visit www.tacticalparadise.com/police" Gear Guide:  SIG SAUER® SB15 PISTOL STABILIZING BRACE When I built my AR pistol (10.5 in for reasons similar to yours), I went with the KAK  Super pistol buffer tube and installed the SIG brace on it.  I find that the brace does not shift after firing around 500 rounds through it.  It was "difficult" to install and I suspect the rubber/polymer used inside the brace is designed to be very sticky. Good luck with your build, I find it is very enjoyable, noticeably louder than the 16 in build I did at the same time. Chris Just finished listening to the show. I had no idea you would be reading my e-mail on air. Lol I guess I would have probably worded some things better. I hope I didn't offend too many listeners with my comments, or cause you too much hate mail. Anyway, thanks for sharing and I'm glad you appreciated the article. Thanks,  Bradley Hey Greg, What process did you follow to build, register, and transfer your AR pistol? It's obviously not on the handgun roster, nor (unless I missed it, haven't listen to all your podcasts) does it sound like its been built to be a single shot pistol like those manufactured by Franklin Armory. I'm curious as to the process you followed to build a customer AR pistol in California with parts you purchased yourself. I know that you normally can't just buy a stripped AR lower and register it as a handgun for your own home build, nor buy a stripped AR rifle lower and build it as a pistol either. I've heard that you cat get a class 7 FFL to "manufacturer" a single shot AR pistol for you using your parts, but they have to provide the lower which they are then able register and transfer as a pistol being a class 7 FFL. After that you can make any changes to it you wish. Is that what you did? Arturo I'm emailing you today to discuss the phase 5 SIG. First of all I wanted to say thanks for talking about it. I have been wanting a pistol AR for a while but I never liked the ponytail (buffer tube). One thing I should tell you, after looking into it, is that I know it doesn't go onto your forearm but you should really leave the strap on for legal reasons because it was designed and approved the way it's sold. Tampering may change the legality of carrying it. If you could, next time, describe the SB15 pistol a little more because you didn't say that it was meant to be shot with one hand. I was wondering if you could physically shoulder it, because legally you can. I would like to have heard this in the podcast because getting the tax stamp, you would have to stay in the state you currently reside in or you would have to write the congressmen in the state you're leaving and the state you're going to just to transfer between states legally. Furthermore, being 5'10", I'll tell you if you shorten the ponytail for a guy yours size, you're really not going to like it; it's going to leave too big of a gap. I've dealt with a lot ARs at different barrel lengths, including the 7" barrel. Personally, in a 223/556, I have had and handled them being accurate up to 100' and then being tack drivers. Be warned, they are extremely loud but it is cool too see a 3-foot flame when it gets dark. The reason I bring this up is because the guy who you responded to about barrel length was very right. The reason why most shorter carbines are made from 10-13" is for twist ratio. The most common twist real for 223/556 is 1:9. Some cases are 1:7 but commonly 1:9 is used. Bigger calibers such as 6.8 is 1:11 twists and 7.62 300 whisper are the same.

Please visit www.tacticalparadise.com/police" Happy Labor Day!! I still haven’t had a chance to shoot the pistol...I did pick up some sites for it though!! More great news in California!! Gear Guide:  SIG SAUER® SB15 PISTOL STABILIZING BRACE Main Topic:  Ammo Permits California lawmakers reject background checks for ammo buyers “The revised bill that failed Saturday would have required ammo sellers to provide information on purchasers to the state Department of Justice after the fact, including name, address, date of birth, date of the sale, brand type and amount.” BREAKING: CA Ammo Registration Bill Dead, “Gun Violence Restraining Order” on Governor’s Desk “California has always served as the canary in a coal mine when it came to the latest gun-control schemes floated by anti-gun forces, giving activists in other states a heads-up, helping us to prepare to fight these pernicious laws if and when they oozed eastward. Here’s hoping that CA is now filling a new, but similar role; allowing the crap laws to be passed far enough in advance of adoption in other states that they can be challenged and defeated in the courts by local 2nd amendment activists, before these defective laws spread like a resource-sucking liberty-killing zombie horde throughout the rest of the country. If so, hats off to the CA folks who are fighting the good fight, not only for themselves, but for the rest of us.” Hi again Greg! Great show as always. I recently built my own AR pistol and wanted to comment and some of the things you touched on in this weeks episode. Barrel length is really important. It's great that you went with the 11.5", because the 7.5" is really just a range toy. There are several problems with the shorter barrel. First of all, the 5.56 round was developed to work in a 20" barrel. Shortening the the barrel decreases velocity/lethality, bullet stability, and also the dwell time/length (affecting reliable cycling). Dwell time/length is the amount of time/length the round is in the barrel after it passes the gas port. The optimal dwell time is achieved in 7" of barrel length. This means that technically, if you want the best combination of velocity, bullet stabilization, and reliability then a 14.5" barrel is the best choice. Hence, the choice by our military to adopt the 14.5" barrel. That being said, I went with a 10.5" :) I felt it was a good compromise between performance and length. Looking at the chart (I researched more articles than just this one,but this one was laid out the best), you can see that anything below 9" is basically pointless. Although I suppose it depends on your intended use. If you want to blow out everyone's ear drums, singe their eyebrows, and blow the crap out of stuff at short range, then go for the 7.5. Here is a good read with images and charts on the subject: BARREL LENGTH STUDIES IN 5.56MM NATO WEAPONS Of course, changing the caliber of ammo introduces new variables. I went with a 300blk, which functions just as well in the aforementioned barrel lengths. However, if you switch to a pistol caliber, then I bet a shorter barrel wouldn't be as big of a deal (however I did not research that). You also spoke about the Sig arm brace and how yours would not seat against the back of the receiver. I believe this to be intentional by the manufacturer. There are several companies (KAK, UTG,etc) that now offer buffer tubes tailored to the SB-15 (KAK SUPER SIG SB-15 Pistol Buffer Tube). All of them have a stop which creates about a 3" gap between the brace and the receiver.

Please visit www.tacticalparadise.com/police" My AR Pistol is out of jail!!!! Bad news, I didn’t end up in Nevada… California 10-day waiting period to buy gun violates the Second Amendment, as to people who are known to the state to already own guns BREAKING: California’s 10-Day Waiting Period Overturned…Mostly Gear Guide:  Nothing this week I'd like preface that I enjoy your podcast. I have a suggestion for a podcast topic. I fly for the airlines and would like to hear suggestions on how to travel ready for disasters. The requirement would be TSA friendly, carry on, not bulky too carry or pack, and not stick out. My concern is at the destination hotel, I'm a very soft target. My only way out is on foot in an unfamiliar city maybe outside the US. I carry a 6 by 6 inch pouch; inside includes trauma pack with quick clot (no cutters), Dust mask, ear buds and plugs, water tablets, emergency bivy, and a few small items. On my keys I have a light, a tsa friendly leatherman, and a P38 can opener. I also always have a 2 liter bottle of water. How would you pack a TSA okay, hike out, small pouch? Thank you for your time and effort. Hi Greg, As a relatively new CCW holder (almost a year).  While I was waiting for my CCW document to arrive.  I had to figure out exactly how to carry my CCW side arm (a Glock 27).  I am sure there are many ways to do this.  However, what worked for me was to carry my handgun every day while at home method. For about two weeks, I would carry my handgun every day as soon as I arrived home in the evening until bead time and all day on weekends, no matter the chore, I would wear the CCW holster and handgun (for example, while washing the car, bathing the dog, cleaning the garage, mowing the grass, cleaning the house, etc.).  Not everyone may find this method useful.  But, for me carrying at home allowed me to learn which carry position worked for me, what holster best suited my preferred carry method. Generally, how to carry a handgun in a way that works best for me and the actives I engage in while out and about.  I learned how go to the bathroom while carrying handgun (better to drop and gun on the floor at home rather than while out, how to perform daily activities (like bending, reaching, setting, driving, etc.), and most importantly, I learned how not to be overly concerned with the handgun printing. At the end of my acclimation period, I was aware that the handgun was there, but I had gotten over the initial uneasiness of carrying.  Many occasions, I had to explain to my wife why I was carrying a handgun in the house. But, eventually , she understood what I was doing and why I was doing this.  That is material for another discussion. When I did this, I had not spoken to anyone on how to acclimate to CCW. I just kind of went and did the above.  Greg, Do you have any recommendation for learning the mechanics and daily activity considerations when carrying a handgun in public? Thanks for making one my favorite Podcasts on the Firearms Radio Network. I lost an email that I can’t find as well.  So, here are my thoughts… Main Topic:  AR Pistol Transporting a firearm in California Handgun Law.us California BCM Standard 11.5" Carbine Upper Receiver Group w/ BCM KMR 10" Handguard Why did I go with an 11.5 barrel?
