Season 6, Episode 89 of The Terrible Podcast is now up and in this Monday show, David Todd is back with me to discuss the upcoming free agent signing period that will officially get underway Wednesday evening. The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Monday morning that they have re-signed safety Robert Golden to a three-year, $5 million contract so we breakdown that decision to kick things off. We also discuss the news that safety Will Allen will not be re-signed this offseason in addition to whether or not Golden’s re-signing has any bearing on the immediate future of backup safety Shamarko Thomas. With Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning slated to announce his retirement later on today, David and I quickly look back over his fine career. Speaking of quarterbacks, David and I discuss whether or not the Steelers will draft one this year being as they reportedly met with a few while in Indianapolis for the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine. The Steelers aren’t expected to be overly active in free agency once again this year and David in preparation for that, David and I recap all of the big money signings the team has had since general manager Kevin Colbert arrived in Pittsburgh in 2000. We wrap things up by talking about the chances of the Steelers re-signing cornerback William Gay and nose tackle Steve McLendon prior to the start of free agency. In the second half of this show we are pleased to be joined one again by former NFL agent Joel Corry, who now writes for CBS Sports and the National Football Post. We talk a lot with Joel about the Steelers current salary cap situation during the interview in addition to discussing the market value of a few Steelers players as well as a few outside free agents. The Steelers own the 25th overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft so David and I go over what positions the team are likely to choose with that pick. Rooney dropped a few hints on Thursday as it possibly relates to the immediate future of cornerback Cortez Allen so we go over that in addition to the possibility of the team being a little more active in free agency this coming offseason. With running back Le’Veon Bell due for a contract extension at some point during the offseason, David and I discuss how much it might cost to sign him to a four-year extension and whether or not we would do such a deal. We move on to look at the Steelers current situation as it relates to the safety position and whether or not the team should pursue veteran Eric Weddle during free agency. We also discuss several cornerbacks who are likely to hit free agency in the next several weeks and whether or not each would be a fit in Pittsburgh.
