We discuss why it is in the best interest of both sides to get a deal done this offseason as opposed to next year. Being as we talked about Bell again in this episode, Alex and I turn our attention to the running back positional group ahead of the start of training camp. We discuss the playing time split we might see between Bell and veteran DeAngelo Williams and whether or not we think Fitzgerald Toussaint should be considered a lock to make the final 53-man roster this year as the team’s No. 3 running back. We discuss the other running backs currently on the roster as well in addition to talking about fullback Roosevelt Nix and how he performed last season before going down injured. Speaking of money, Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell dropped a new track on Sunday and he hints during the song that he wants $15 million a season when it comes to a new contract. Those lyrics prompted me to write a post as to why I don’t think Bell will see that much money in his new deal and it resulted in the running back calling me “clueless” on Twitter. We discuss the Bell topic thoroughly and I debut a few rap lyrics of my own during that segment. Moving forward, Alex and I go back in time and discuss the contract that wide receiver Hines Ward signed with the Steelers in 2005. That leads to us discussing whether or not a Steelers player has ever been the highest paid in the league at his position and who the next one might be. With the start of Steelers training camp drawing closer, Alex and I continue looking in-depth at the various position groups and today we focus on breaking down the cornerbacks currently on the team’s 90-man roster. Harrison announced Sunday night on social media that he is indeed willing to talk to the league but only if they meet his guidelines that include commissioner Roger Goodell being present for the talks that he wants to take place at his house and prior to the start of training camp. Is he right to have such demands and more importantly, should he meet with the league even though they’ve yet to provide any evidence to back up the allegations? We discuss it. Being as the Steelers released kicker Shaun Suisham on Friday, Alex and I discuss the Steelers current salary cap status and how an injury benefit claim could factor into all of this in the near future. Alex recently conducted interviews with Steelers wide receiver Issac Blakeney and tackle Brian Mihalik so we cover the main things both of those young players had to say. With the team now off for the next several weeks before the start of training camp, Alex and I discuss the importance of players improving their level of conditioning and how we’re glad to hear that cornerback Senquez Golson plans to improve his by working with Tom Shaw in Florida. There was quite a bit of news about running back Le’Veon Bell this past week so we make sure to dedicate a large part of our Friday discussion to him. We also discuss his contract situation once again and I give several reasons as to why the team should really consider extending him this year instead of waiting until after the 2016 season.
