 How to Avoid Emotional Eating When Feeling Extreme Frustration [Podcast #485] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:43

You know when you want to lose weight but it's not working because you can't stop emotional eating because you feel so extremely frustrated because you can't stop eating and therefore you're not losing weight because you won't be able to as long as you continue to eat due to your emotions? Whew! That's a lot isn't it. I understand, I've been there too, but unless you break that cycle, how will you ever lose weight? When You Feel So Frustrated You Just Want to Jump Out of Your Own Skin, Do This Instead of Emotional Eating Following is a list of the tips I shared in episode #485 of The JoLynn Braley Show to avoid emotional eating when you're feeling extreme frustration. Do be sure and listen in to get the nuances of the following list because without that, the following list might not be as helpful to you. In the meantime, here's my list! * Stop beating yourself up for feeling so frustrated * Forgive yourself: forgive yourself for how bad you feel, forgive yourself for all of the overeating you did in the past which brought you to the weight you are now, forgive yourself for gaining the weight back, forgive yourself for all of it so you can move forward with totally new action now. * Stop beating yourself up for all of the mistakes you made in the past. * Recognize that emotions are just emotions. They aren't the end of the world unless you act on your emotions in a negative way, which by the way, wouldn't you agree that emotional eating is a negative action because it hurts YOU in the long run? * Remind yourself that where you are is temporary, as long as you take New and Different action now. It helps if you are taking new and different action with proven steps that have worked for others before you to end emotional eating and get the weight off. * Feel your frustration instead of stuffing it down with food with emotional eating. * Imagine the possibility of releasing your emotional eating. * Use your breath: use deep breathing to move through your frustration and feel it without emotional eating to stuff it down. * Let go of your fear of feeling your negative emotions. Stop avoiding feeling your emotions. Eating them will only keep the weight on. * Get up and move. Go for a walk, pound a pillow, just get up and move to move through your frustration rather than eating it. * Practice new ways of handling your Inner Self world on a day-to-day basis to avoid eating due to your emotions rather than eating for physical Remember: Consistency is critical for long term success with your weight and in order to avoid emotional eating, consistency in practicing the above steps is critical in order to become effective with them. Daily practice for a minimum of 30 days in a row will get you off to a good start. As long as you have a highly skilled mind-body weight loss coach who is helping you stay accountable (and you are willing to be held accountable) then you can learn these new skills and avoid emotional eating. A food diet just simply isn't enough since the food is not what's driving your emotional eating - your emotions and how you handle your emotions/avoid your emotions is what's driving you emotional eating,

Weight loss doesn't have to be hard. You just have to get going and stay going, consistently, and you must have the right combination of tools, support, and steps to take. Once you have it all in place then consistency wins! Speaking of consistency, I've been hanging in there for nine years now with The JoLynn Braley Show and January 6, 2022 marks the nine year anniversary of my podcast. To celebrate I thought I'd share my top 3 tips to lose weight now. These are tips that you probably won't expect because more than likely you're used to hearing only about the food and nothing about the mental and emotional aspects of weight loss. This is an unfortunate failing of the mainstream diet industry because 92.8% of what makes weight loss work is having the right mindset about it: a weight loss mindset. Why is your mindset so important? Because you won't take action and you definitely won't take consistent action without the right mindset. For Example... Here's an example: If you often think "weight loss is too hard" or "I just can't stick with it" then what are your natural behaviors that follow these thoughts? Especially if you struggle with emotional eating and/or binge eating? Your thoughts lead to your decisions which lead to your actions which lead to your results, depending on the consistency of your actions. If you are consistently choosing foods that make you gain weight, choosing to eat when you're not physically hungry, and constantly deciding to "start over on Monday" (when that Monday keeps on rolling by... I know, I've been there before!) then consistency will win and you will end up with more results of struggle and overweight. But if your thoughts support you in making decisions that lead to the results you say you really want with your weight, and if you have a weight loss mindset to support consistency in your behaviors, then you'll be able to keep it going and reach your goal weight for good. Without the right mindset though, it's extremely difficult if not impossible to get to your goal weight and stay there because you'll constantly be fighting with your inner self. All struggle to lose weight is a fight between you and you, and that fight starts in your mind. Get your Inner Self on the same page as your weight loss goals and then it's no big deal to live a healthy lifestyle and get that weight off for good. My experience with day one eating clean. You know when you keep saying you want to lose weight but you're constantly putting it off until tomorrow? Have you ever noticed that tomorrow never comes? Have you also noticed that today is the day that you told yourself yesterday would be the tomorrow that you'd finally change how you eat and start losing weight? If you're stuck in the rut that I've been stuck in before, I understand! In my experience. "tomorrow" led to a whole lotta weight gain and frustration because every day it was always "tomorrow". Tomorrowland just doesn't yield real-life results of weight loss and fat loss. What Tomorrowland does give you is a deeper trench of addiction to the food that packs on the pounds, slows your metabolism, and blows a big 'ole hole in your ability to focus and function at your peak. You're fully aware that it's best to get off of all of those highly processed, chemically laden foods, you know that all of that gunk only slows your metabolism to a craaawwwl, but there you are, struggling to make it through just one day without the gunk. I get it! I've been there myself. But did you know that if you can just make it through the Critical Zone of the first 3 days of eating clean that it will get easier? If You Can Just Get Through the First Day of Eating Clean... I know what it's like to be feeling fat, frumpy and defeated before you ever get going with your weight loss plan. I totally get it. But do you know the one thing you must NOT do when you're feeling fat? Stop Feeding the Cycle... Have you ever noticed the Cycle that Never Ends unless you end it? The Cycle that Never Ends goes like this: * You gained all the weight back plus an extra 12 pounds. * You feel bad about gaining weight again. * You eat more of the same kind of food that put the weight back on in an effort to try to feel better. * Your emotional eating runs rampant. * You feel better for a minute while you're eating but then... * You feel the shame and disappointment in yourself for giving in to your out-of-control eating urges once again. * Because you feel so bad, you eat more food to try to feel better, your weight goes up further, and the cycle continues. How Do I Know This? I know this because I've personally been through this myself. Yep! I know how bad you feel about gaining all that weight and how you try to feel better by eating more of the same food that got you in the pickle you're in. The constant excuse is "I'll start over tomorrow" or "I'll start again on Monday", but then the weeks and months turn into years without real-world weight loss success. Ack! What can you do about it?  Can Eating Clean End Your Binge Eating? [Podcast #330] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:04

Can clean eating end your binge eating? Well if it could then wouldn't that be great?! Here's what I can tell you: based on my experience, clean eating ends binge eating. This is my experience with clean eating at least, and there is a method to it of course. In other words, it's not a free for all. ;-) With that being said I have no urge to binge eat junk food when I'm eating clean. Will this work for you too? Well there are several components involved in eating clean. One clean eating meal isn't enough. Consistency counts and you've gotta stack the deck in your favor in advance in order to have the easiest time of getting to your goal weight and staying there. The thing is though, is that the mainstream diet industry never tells you the importance of your mindset in all of this and unfortunately, if your mindset is fat, then your eating behaviors will match. :( Good News and Bad News That's right, I've got good news and bad news for you. The good news is.... changing your diet to whole healthy foods and letting go of the junky processed foods really can put a stop to your binge eating. The bad news is ..... this requires change and it isn't easy if you don't have the right mindset for it. But wait, there's more good news! The good news is that once you get a weight loss mindset then it's not a big deal to change your eating habits. Everything flows with ease when you have the mindset for it. Can Eating Clean End Your Binge Eating? To answer the question can clean eating end your binge eating you first must decide if you truly want to stop binge eating. Some don't believe it or not. Food is their comfort and food is their crutch. They don't want to give up the way they use food in their life even though they don't have a healthy relationship with food. But if you firmly decide you want to stop binge eating, I believe you can. It all depends on you though. I believe you can because I've had too many coaching clients since 2009 who have ended their binge eating, so why not you too? Can Eating Clean End Your Binge Eating?  Is Laziness the REAL Reason you’re not Losing Weight? [Podcast #329] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:56

Many think that the reason they're overweight is because they're lazy. The problem with this thinking is that you're more than likely going to stay stuck in the cycle of overeating, unhealthy eating, food addiction, binge eating self-recrimination, low self-esteem and more, all due to  telling yourself over and over again that you're lazy. Besides that, repeatedly telling yourself you're lazy makes you feel pretty darned hopeless, right? In my experience, the negative self-talk train went like this: "I'm just too lazy to get my act together to lose this weight, therefore I can't lose weight, therefore let's eat more cupcakes, chips and spaghetti because it doesn't matter anyway.....". Can you relate? While maybe your choice of emotional eating or binge eating foods are different, can you relate to the whole cycle of negativity in both thoughts, emotions, behaviors and results? The problem with this negative self-talk is that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when the reality is, this thought of "I can't lose weight because I'm too lazy" is only a thought. It does not have to be true unless you make it true. This is Good News This is Good News! Why? Because it means that you can change if you want to. You just need the proven system to make that change, if you want to ensure your success. But first, it's good to look at how this self-fulfilling prophecy comes to be. Here's How: First, you unknowingly brainwash yourself to believe you are lazy and you can't lose weight and then you prove it to yourself because your behaviors will match your belief of "I'm too lazy to lose weight" and then, because of your behaviors, your end results on the scale will match up due to your eating behaviors and food choices. But then... (this is a complicated problem, which is why so many stay stuck when trying to solve it all alone).... you think the solution is to start over on Monday, but how does that pan out? So frustrating, I know! I was there myself in the past. You desperately want to lose weight and look great in your jeans, you want to feel attractive again and look your best, you want to feel attractive to your husband or if you're single you want to get out there and date, but instead you're stuck in the loop of hopelessness, telling yourself you're lazy while emotionally eating and/or binge eating, and the weight never comes off.
