 When Food Is Your Religion then How Do You Lose Weight? [Podcast #545] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:55

When food is your religion, then what? How do you lose weight? Now it might sound weird to even think of food as your religion but if you consider how much power you've given to food, then it might make a little more sense. For example, is food your main source of happiness? Do you feel anxious if you even imagine changing "your food" so that you can lose weight? Do you have a hard time sticking with a healthy eating plan because you must get back to your comfort zone with your comfort foods? When Food is Your Religion.. Then What? When food is your religion it's like you've given food an otherworldly power so that it has "supreme control" over you. Food is the source of your everything in your life. Of course we all need to eat to live, that's not what this is about because if you are willing to get real, then you will see that sure, you do need to eat to live, but do you have to eat the kinds of foods and the quantity of those foods you consistently eat? There's a big difference between eating healthy foods and a reasonable quantity of food in order to thrive, be fit, and be well, vs. eating all kinds of unhealthy foods, you know those types of foods you consider "your food" - those foods that when you even think about "giving them up" in order to lose weight, you begin to quake in your boots. When you look at it like this, is it maybe possible that food is almost like a religion to you? The Definition of Religion In podcast episode #545 I said that I would include the definition of religion that I read in the podcast. I also included the definition of doctrine, here they both are: Definition of religion: * The belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers, regarded as creating and governing the universe. * A particular variety of such belief, especially when organized into a system of doctrine and practice. * A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader. Definition of Doctrine: * A principle or body of principles presented for acceptance or belief, as by a religious, political, scientific, or philosophic group; dogma. * A rule or principle of law, especially when established by precedent. * A statement of official government policy, especially in foreign affairs and military strategy. So when we're talking about food being your religion, notice in the definitions about the parts that I referred to in my podcast, regarding beliefs, values, and a system of practices. Your eating behaviors are a system of practices, notice how often you repeat them. It will help to become more self-aware of exactly what you are doing and what you are thinking, since your beliefs about yourself and about food and about your ability to change all began with a thought. Before you can change your beliefs you need to identify what you are thinking since a belief is a thought you've thought over and over and over again. Unfortunately, when you're struggling with binge eating, emotional eating, last supper eating and the negative self-talk that comes along with all of this, as well as your weight that is really bringing you down..... well all of this does not suddenly change when the date on the calendar changes. So then what's the answer? Is there a way to fix this? Is there a way out? Is it possible to succeed with your New Year weight loss goals when you have such a problem with binge eating? New Year Weight Loss with a Binge Eating Habit: Is It Possible to Still Lose Weight? When you have such a habit of binge eating and no diet you've tried has fixed it, you can start to lose hope that you'll ever be able to lose weight, much less stick with a New Year's Resolution to lose weight. So is it possible to lose weight if you can't stop binge eating? Well, binge eating is overeating and the body does not need fuel when your stomach is not hungry. A big problem for emotional eaters and binge eaters is that you don't eat for physical hunger and in simple terms, excess fuel = excess weight because the body simply doesn't need that extra fuel. Believe it or not, your body is doing the right thing by storing all of that extra fuel for you, but what that comes down to is overweight and/or obesity which can really drag you down, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally. Being overweight or obese just isn't any fun. But is it possible to lose weight at the New Year when you have a binge eating habit? Well the truth is it will be very hard if not impossible to lose weight while binge eating because you're simply eating too much food. You can't out-exercise bad eating habits either.  Is Your Weight Loss a Cold Case? [Podcast #528] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:14

Is your weight loss a cold case? Has your interest in weight loss gone cold?You've probably never asked yourself, "Is your weight loss a cold case" have you? I bet not! But you probably have said you can't get motivated to lose weight and you just can't stop eating no matter what you've tried. But what do either of these common weight loss problems have to do with your weight loss being a cold case? Well it depends on how you look at it. It also depends on if you follow me on how I came up with this topic today. The Inspiration for "Is Your Weight Loss a Cold Case" At the time of this podcast recording it was two weeks ago that four University of Idaho students were murdered in their off-campus rental home in Moscow Idaho while sleeping. This murder case has captured the attention of the nation as well as many around the world. These were four bright, happy young people whose lives were cut short and everyone is anxious for answers. This is where my idea of asking is your weight loss a cold case came into being. There are two parts to this: Impatience, and the actual definition of what a cold case is. On the topic of impatience, there are large groups of people on the Internet who have no connection at all to this case (they are not family, friends or community members) who are demanding a resolution to this complicated case after only two weeks. Why? Just because they want it. They want this case solved immediately to soothe their own personal anxiety. Note again that these are not family members, friends and they don't live in Moscow Idaho but instead are halfway across the world and just simply demand that this case be solved instantly. I've even read posts online saying that they want someone, anyone to be arrested just to have someone arrested so that this case will be completed, which is the craziest thing ever since you can't arrest people who aren't even involved in any way in the crime. But they want this just to soothe their own anxiety about this case. What does this have to do with weight loss? What does this have to do with weight loss and how does it tie into your weight loss being a cold case? Well these same people who are demanding a resolution to this case immediately are saying that it's now a cold case since it hasn't been solved in two weeks. And again, these are not the family members or anyone at all connected to this case or local community in Moscow Idaho. What this has to do with weight loss is one of the common problems shared by my Inner Self Diet weight loss coaching clients over the years, ever since I began professionally coaching in 2009. What's the problem? Impatience. How will you ever lose weight if you give in to your impatience while expecting immediate results? If you've ever wondered why it's so hard to stop late-night binge eating you're not alone. Right now as you read these words, millions are struggling to stop binge eating, stop emotional eating, lose weight and keep it off. The struggle to stop binge eating can be the very hardest thing that you might do in your entire life and can be impossible if you don't have help. Why? Why would stopping binge eating and losing weight be the very hardest thing you'll ever do in your entire life? Even if you're super successful in business, family, friends and more? One of the reasons it's so hard to stop late-night binge eating and just stop plain 'ole binge eating at any time of day or night is because Food is a Legal Addiction. Yes! It's true: highly processed food is highly addictive and easily add more fuel to your binge eating fire. It's quite simple to see. After all, have you ever binged on plain steamed broccoli? Have you ever had a late-night binge on fresh grilled chicken breast with nothing added? What about plain rice? Do you binge eat on plain rice? Hey, if you binge eat on unprocessed food then I want to talk to you because I've never met anyone struggling with out-of-control eating on totally clean-eating food. This means no cheese added, no sugar added, no processed food sauces added, etc. If you're not sure what I mean when by eating clean I've done a few podcasts on this subject and you can also grab my grocery list which will make the difference between whole unprocessed foods and processed foods super clear. No matter what though, if you do want to lose weight but you can't stop binge eating then how will you get to your goal weight? And if you are also trying to hide your binge eating by only binging late at night then how will you get to your goal weight if you can't stop late-night binge eating either? When you're trying to stop late-night binge eating on your own there are many obstacles you'll run into. I know what it's like having made so many mistakes myself before figuring out the solution that ends your binge eating. Before you can solve it though, you must raise your level of awareness.
