On this episode of the Christopher Scott Talk Show Podcast: It’s no secret the church is in decline in this country. I’ve watched as we’ve gone from faithful, to indifferent to now there is pure contempt for God, Jesus and the church, at least for some people. It’s been a gradual well-known change. In my own town, it’s a small town of about 15,000 people, at one time there were over 30 churches. Now there are more bars than churches. There’s barely a handful of what I would describe as actual vibrant congregations. Christianity has been doubly hit. It’s clear there is a spiritual and cultural shift going on. And as is the case with many things it’s something I’m curious about. What’s the impact, how does it affect us, does it affect is and all that led me to the question: Can a society survive and thrive without a church? Trust in the media has hit bottom, 60% of people surveyed believe that stories are paid for. In other words the facts aren't being checked. The survey, done in partnership with Reuters found that the media is last on a list of all of Washington’s institutions that the public has confidence in, even under Congress. The media has always shaped culture. Other things have shaped culture too, like the church. The church used to have a huge influence on culture but the media always has as well. My question is, has the media gone too far trying to shape politics, OR has politics gone too far trying to shape culture? Plastic pollution is a huge problem. It take 400 years for plastic to decompose. Its literally trashing the planet. There floating trash islands bigger than states. We don't fully know the long term consequences impact. 90% of all the plastic was made in the last 10 years. What will the problem look like in another 10 years? It's so easy to fix the problem. Boy have elections changed. I remember when they were boring. Why have they changed so much? Today, they’ve turned into a complete circus. I call it the national Jerry Springer show. Why has it turned into this? It used to be boring issues, boring debates, boring elecitons. Maybe that was a good thing? Issues used to be things like, crime and schools and taxes. It's a question that's difficult to answer, What Is Common Sense? After I started my podcast using the theme "Common Sense", some people were critical. Some said common sense is code for not doing enough research. Some even accused me of not having common sense. So I started asking people, what is common sense? The answers were all over the place. There were as many different answers as people I asked. It dawned on me, people really have no idea what common sense is. If you ever watch the news or scroll through social media you probably know what I'm talking about. In the beginning I defined common sense as the ability to use logic and reason. But that's too vague and I set out to examine what it really means. I decided to publish it in a short book I call, How To Get Common Sense Even If You Don't Know What It Is. There's 3 stories I want to talk about today which I think in some way are all related in terms of the big picture implications. The first story Is the Ann Coulter Story. She's been bashing Trump on immigration. The latest headline reads Trump Hits Back At Ann Coulter: 'Wacky Nut Job'… This is fascinating on its own and I'll tell you how this ties in with the bigger story. The second story is about Washington Journalists cashing in on Trump. It doesn’t matter what is said as long as it revolves around Trump. Bash Trump, worship Trump, no matter that's where the money's at right now. The third story which is the least exciting but the most important in my opinion is the slow painful death of local journalism.
