HMPC 0220 “Go Fish”  - Buffy The Vampire Slayer * Welcome to the Hellmouth Podcast for the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Series, Season 2 Episode 20 titled “Go Fish” * If you want to be a part of the Hellmouth Community, then head on over to the website at hellmouthpodcast.com and click on the page for contact info to find out all of the different ways that you can be a part of the Hellmouth Podcast. * One last time I want to remind all of you that Audible is our sponsor for the month of June. You have until the end of the month of June to go to www.audiblepodcast.com/hellmouth (http://www.audiblepodcast.com/hellmouth) and get a free audiobook of your choice as well as a free 14 day trial of the Audible.com services. * Remember it is 100% free and signing up supports the Hellmouth Podcast as well as earns you a free audiobook. * I have decided to do the book review at the beginning of the podcast this week because this is a dangerous week for the Hellmouth Podcast. There is a strong likelihood that many of you will not make it to the end of this podcast and I didn’t wan’t Mr. Rupe’s book to suffer for it because this was a fantastic book and I wanted you to hear about it before you turn off the podcast. * Book review – Day of Vindication by James Rupe * www.dayofvindication.com (http://www.dayofvindication.com/) * Action/Thriller – terrorism, politics, investigation * Multiple characters * The storytelling in this book is very unique, multiple perspectives tell this story as it would play out in real life if it were to occur. * Cool to me being familiar with the Houston area * A nuclear bomb goes off in Houston, TX. * There are more bombs that will be detonated all over the US if the terrorist demands are not met. * The two big plotlines are the reaction of the US to the detonation of a nuclear bomb. * The FBI agents who are trying to track down the terrorists and prevent the other bombs from being detonated. * Not often that I wish a book would be turned into a movie because I am predjudiced that the book is Always Better. * This book would make a fantastic movie. * Has a great plot twist that threw me for a loop in terms of what happens to some of the main characters. * Does a very nice job of giving you an ending that works for the story but doesn’t just spoon feed you a happy ending in 20 pages or less. * This book makes you think, think about what would happen, what would you do if a nuclear bomb were detonated in the US and it also makes you realize just how plausible that reality might be. * Loved the book, it was fantastic. If you like crime dramas, investigative books, action books, spy thrillers, this is a must, must read. * Now for many of you, this might be a really good time to turn off the podcast. * Not because this is a bad episode, even though it kind of is a bad episode but because the topic or issue being is in my experience a very dividing and sensitive issue. * It is also one which I have some very strong opinions about. Statistically speaking I will probably offend roughly 55% of the Hellmouth Podcast audience this week so again you have been warned, skip to the book review at the end * * Now it’s time for the two minute recap of the episode Go Fish * It’s getting nipply at the beach as we celebrate the swim teams latest victory.

Link on the website. * So that’s enough housekeeping for now, let’s get to the episode recap finally, shall we? * Opening this episode Angelus talks about Passion, he talks about it almost as though it was a predator, animalistic and violent. Obviously this theme fits right in line with everything that happens in this episode. The role of Angelus in this episode is very much one of that predator and in many ways a slave to his passion. Angelus is a slave to his passion for Buffy, not a passion of love but a passion of hate in some ways, it is a passion/obsession that he has for Buffy. Something that Spike, Drusilla, Giles, virtually everyone can see, Buffy included. * Angelus watches Buffy sleep and when she wakes up she finds a picture that he has drawn of her. * Cordelia is very upset by this news, mostly because she realizes that she has invited Angel in her car. Xander has an amusing comment about being doomed to give him and his vamp buddies a ride from now on. * At one point or another in each of these episodes we see Angelus enter Buffy’s, Giles’, and Willow’s home and terrorize them. But not Xander. * There is an appearance by Jonathan in this episode as he comes into the library to find some books. The Scoobies leave to the hallway to avoid being heard in their discussion. * Buffy is concerned about her mom, rightfully so, my first time through the series this was one of the first thing I thought about when Angel had been turned. * Jenny Calendar is working on a way to restore Angel’s soul (Ritual of Restoration). If you remember it was stated in a previous episode that those magiks were lost to her people a long time ago.

 HMPC 0215 – Phases | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:58

Here is the Hellmouth Podcast for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Series Season 2 Episode 15 Titled "Phases". (mp3 version here (http://hellmouthpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/HMPC/HMPC0215P.mp3)) Bryan tries to shake off the rust after taking last week off. This episode is a fun and exciting one being the first Oz centric episode of the series. Book Review - In this episode Bryan reviews: Enchanting The Lady by Kathryne Kennedy * ISBN-10 0505527502 * ISBN-13 978-0505527509 * http://www.kathrynekennedy.com/EnchantingTheLady.html (http://www.kathrynekennedy.com/EnchantingTheLady.html) In this episode - Buffy and Giles are back together Willow kisses Oz Angelus sends Buffy a message... The episode phases from a plot standpoint is one of the most straight-forward episodes there is. So rather than get into a lengthy discussion about each segment of the plot, I am going to do a synopsis of the plot for a few minutes and then talk about some of the things that are going on in this episode. * Fun facts about this episode * it was actually directed by Seth Green who plays Oz. It is interesting to me because this is really the first Oz centric episode of the series and for him to pull double duty does a couple of things. One I know it is a lot more work to direct and star in an episode but two I think it really gives Seth Green an opportunity to tell Oz’s story from his perspective a little bit and I think it is great that they gave him that opportunity. * Reference to the Witch episode the third episode of season 1. As Oz opens the episode staring at the cheerleader trophy which has eyes that seem to follow you. * Reference to the pack episode when the group is in the library and Xander starts thinking like a hyena to try and predict what the werewolf’s next move is going to be. * Willow-Oz kissing plotline * Willow needs Buffy’s advice even though it is probably the last thing that Buffy needs to be talking about. * Xander-Cordelia plotline * Just when Cordelia thinks that she has Xander’s attention away from Buffy he starts rambling on about Willow and Oz * Oz is in a band, he’s not good enough for willow. * Xander is going through what cavemen always go through. * He didn’t want Willow when she was available and wanted him, now that she isn’t available and he doesn’t have her attention, suddenly he doesn’t like it so much. Doesn’t think Oz is good enough… * I feel sorry for Cordelia because she is really getting the short end of the stick. * Werewolf plotline. * There are reports of people being mauled by an animal. * Cordelia and Xander spot the monster and it’s a werewolf. * Buffy goes out on the hunt and runs into hunter guy (Cain). Now it’s a race to see who catches the werewolf first. * Buffy and Giles don’t want to kill the werewolf,

 HMPC 0212 – Bad Eggs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:39

Here is the Hellmouth Podcast Episode for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series Season 2 Episode 12 - Bad Eggs. (mp3 version here (http://hellmouthpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/HMPC/HMPC0212BE.mp3)) It's a make-out fest in this episode. We get a dose of Sex Ed Parenting Woes and the dreaded word Responsibility... HMPC 0212 “Bad Eggs”  - Buffy The Vampire Slayer * Welcome to the Hellmouth Podcast for the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Series, Season 2 Episode 12 titled “Bad Eggs” * I want to quickly remind everyone about all of the ways that you can be a part of the Hellmouth Podcast. * Twitter @hellmouthcast * Facebook page – search for Hellmouth Podcast * as always you can email me at hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com (mailto:hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com) * you can call the Hellmouth Hotline at 1-888-818-8941 * or head on over to the hellmouth podcast blog at www.hellmouthpodcast.com (http://www.hellmouthpodcast.com/) * Horrible University * So let’s get to the episode recap finally, shall we * This episode is all about three things: parenting, responsibility and making out. Maybe I got the order of those wrong, it should probably be making out, making out, and how making out leads to parenting and responsibility. * Let’s start with responsibility * Buffy at the mall with Joyce is supposed to pick up a dress for her mom but instead meets Lyle Gorch one of my favorite guest vampires in the series. * The best thing for me about Lyle Gorch is that he comes across as this big tough guy but always ends up running away like a ninny halfway through a fight. * Needless to say, no dress was picked up and Joyce lectures Buffy about responsibility. * Don’t know what goes on in your head? * Saving the world from vampires? * Blank stare * Make Out #1 - Xander and Cordelia kissing in the closet * Cordelia doesn’t want anyone to know about the two of them together. * Physically they can’t resist each other. * Why don’t they want anyone else to know about each other? * Sex talk in class * Willow is obviously unsettled by the discussion as I would imagine most high school students can tend to be when having a sex talk with a teacher and in front of their peers. * Pregnancy finally comes up as a consequence of teenage sex * Class is split into parenting teams and is given an egg to take care of. * So here is one of the parenting elements of the show. The first being the interactions with Buffy and her mom, like I said Joyce is a big role in this episode. * Buffy is in the library * Buffy skipped class so she gets to be a single egg parent. * Giles has found Lyle Gorch and his brother Tector in his books, they are violent but not very smart. * Make-out #2Angel and Buffy in the cemetery kissing very similar to Xander and Cordelia * Buffy is at home taking care of her egg. * She has named her egg Egbert * While Buffy sleeps, Egbert hatches sort of * Creepy little lobster tentacle thing which we find out later is the hatchling of a prehistoric monster called a bezoar and it reaches for Buffy * Sits on her face and seems to feed off of her. * In the library * Giles comes out of the stacks and see Xander, Willow, Buffy being mopey, except for Xander – Xander has boiled his egg * No Gorches on the hunt last night * Cordelia is full of life as well, I assume that her class partner had the egg the night before. * Cordelia wants Xander to help her search for Mr. Whitmore in a closet. * Make out #4 Again that night Buffy and Angel are kissing in the cemetery * Buffy talks to Angel about her egg problems of parenting * She talks about having kids one day * Angel says he can’t have kids * Buffy plays it off as no big deal * Angel asks if she doesn’t think about the future? * She says no, when she looks at the future, all she sees is him. * He feels the same way. * Make out #4 More kissing

 HMPC 0208 – The Dark Age | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:20

Here is the Hellmouth Podcast Episode 0208 for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series Season 2 Episode 8 titled "The Dark Ages". (mp3 version available here (http://hellmouthpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/HMPC/HMPC0208TDA.mp3)) In this episode Giles is haunted by demons from his past, literally. Jenny Calendar get hot and bothered. Buffy gets a tattoo and Angel swoops in and saves the day. * HMPC 0208 “The Dark Age”  - Buffy The Vampire Slayer * Welcome to the Hellmouth Podcast for the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Series, Season 2 Episode 8 titled “The Dark Age” * I want to quickly remind everyone about all of the ways that you can be a part of the Hellmouth Podcast. * Twitter @hellmouthcast * Facebook page – search for Hellmouth Podcast * as always you can email me at hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com (mailto:hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com) * you can call the Hellmouth Hotline at 1-888-818-8941 * or head on over to the new hellmouth podcast blog at www.hellmouthpodcast.com (http://www.hellmouthpodcast.com/) * You will notice when you head on over to the blog that we have sponsor advertisements now. One of those sponsors is Netflix. * If you go to the website, click on the Netflix link and sign up for the 14 day free trial than you will be supporting the Hellmouth Podcast as well. Then if you cancel within the 14 days there is no charge but I think you will find that Netflix has a lot of benefits. * For about $8 a month you can do the 1 DVD back and forth and unlimited streaming movies and TV online and if you have an Xbox you can stream through there as well. * So let’s get to the episode recap finally, shall we… * This episode is going to have a little more recap than the last two episodes because for this episode I think it is important. * Guy in suit walking around campus. * Looking for Giles, it’s obviously urgent. * Phillip is choked to death and zombie lady melts * Opening Credits * Ripper history in the form of Giles’ dreams. * The Scoobies playing anywhere but here talking about Giles as a kid (his diapers were tweed) * This kind of plays into one of the big themes in this episode which is the way that kids view adults. Often times kids don’t realize that adults where once children themselves. They see them as always having been adults. Probably the best example of this is parents, but teachers are another great example. * Jenny shows up to talk to Giles * Cops are waiting for Giles in the library * Buffy is at hospital to protect blood delivery truck. * Giles doesn’t show up. * Giles is back at home, Buffy shows up there. * Giles is drunk * Giles is obviously very distracted and hiding something. * Won’t tell Buffy anything. * Buffy knows something is up. * Giles is calling trying to get in touch with Deidre * Turns out he has been trying to contact a list of people. * On the list left alive is Ethan Rayne and Giles. * We actually see here that Giles has a tattoo like Phillip Henry had. * Buffy shows up to talk to Ms. Calendar about Giles * Cordelia tells Buffy about the police being at the library. * Buffy goes to the library to call Giles and sees someone lurking in the stacks. * It’s Ethan Rayne * Ethan lets on that he knows Giles * Phillip Zombie shows up to kill Ethan * Buffy fights Zombie Phillip * Giles shows up. * Ethan calls Giles Ripper – this is the first time the Scoobies have heard him called that. * Giles grabs him by the back of the hair(again ripper persona comes out), the Scoobies are seeing the ripper in Giles come out for the first time. * Phillip breaks out of the cage. Xander saves Cordelia – more foreshadowing, they touch for an unnecessarily long period of time. * Buffy is angry and wants to know what is going on. * The Mark of Eygon? * Giles still refuses to answer any questions. * Tells Buffy to stay out of it.

Billy Fordham (Ford) comes to Sunnydale and while he may know that Buffy is the Slayer he is going to find himself on the wrong end of the stake. Willow and Angel have a moment in her bedroom. Drusilla and Angel have a moment in the park. Buffy and Angel have a moment about Drusilla. Angel really gets around, huh. * HMPC 0207 “Lie To ME”  - Buffy The Vampire Slayer * Welcome to the Hellmouth Podcast for the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Series, Season 2 Episode 7 titled “Lie To Me” * I want to quickly remind everyone about all of the ways that you can be a part of the Hellmouth Podcast. * Twitter @hellmouthcast * Facebook page – search for Hellmouth Podcast * email me at hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com (mailto:hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com) * you can call the Hellmouth Hotline at 1-888-818-8941 * www.hellmouthpodcast.com (http://www.hellmouthpodcast.com/) * Take Flight –Remember the first three people to email me and commit to writing a quick review will get to see Take Flight for free. * The website has been revamped, get it. Let me know if you are attending and I can get you in touch with the Houston Buffy Meetup group coordinator and you will have a group of fans to walk the floor with. * So let’s get to the episode recap finally, shall we… * This episode is titled Lie To Me * Playground, kid left and mom is late, Drusilla shows up. * She is obviously going to kill the boy. * Angel shows up and intervenes * This is the first interaction between Angel and Drusilla since Spike and Dru have arrived in Sunnydale. * So much history between Angel and Drusilla, we are going to get some of the details later in this episode. * When Angel was Angelus, he had an obsession with Drusilla. He stalked her, tortured her mentally, killed her family, horrible horrible things. * Obviously, as a human, Drusilla was terrified of Angel and that is not something that we really see much of in the Buffy series but it does come out in the Angel series. * Drusilla still obviously has affection for him. * Drusilla can see Angel’s love for the slayer. * “This is just the beginning” lots of foreshadowing what is to come here, she talks about the Slayer doesn’t even know what is coming, referencing Angel turning into Angelus. * Giles has been researching Spike, still doesn’t know why Spike is in Sunnydale. * Buffy and Willow passing notes talking about Angel with a girl in the park, at this point they still don’t know who Drusilla is, they have only seen Spike. It just didn’t occur to me that this was the first time that Buffy had seen Drusilla. Because of the way they were positioned, and the setting I can see how Buffy might have interpreted their encounter as being more intimate than it actually was. * Intro Ford – never liked Ford at all, he gives off a sleazy vibe. * Buffy and Ford seem very touchy-feely, close, very close (Billy Fordham) I thought this was unnatural. We don’t see Buffy act like this with any of her friends here in Sunnydale. * Ford lies to Buffy about what he is doing in Sunnydale and that he is now a student there. (Lie #1) * Angel is at the Bronze where Ford has met Buffy. Ford is giving Angel the manly evaluation.
