She looks smashing. o   She bumps into Harmony and the girls. o   They introduce her to Anya. o   Willow catches up to Oz at his locker. o   She wants to talk but he wants space and can’t help feeling like she is more concerned with making herself feel better than what he needs. o   Something about a hammer, nail and hitting it on the head. Point Oz. o   Anya catches up to Cordelia in the halls and expresses sympathy for her and her Xander situation. o   Cordelia and Anya hit it off right away. o   That night at the Bronze, Xander, Willow and Buffy all put on brave faces but their gloom overcomes them quickly. o   Xander watches Cordelia having a grand time with her friends. o   Willow is hyper-sensitive about Xander’s proximity as she is determined to show Oz she is over him. o   Outside the bronze, Buffy reaches out to Cordelia to express her sympathy. A vampire attacks and Buffy has to throw Cordelia into a pile of garbage to save her. o   The next day at school Cordelia is talking to Anya about Buffy and how her arrival in Sunnydale is when all her problems started. o   Cordelia ‘wishes’ that Buffy had never come to Sunnydale. o   In that moment, Anya is revealed to be a vengeance demon who makes Cordelia’s wish a reality. o   Sunnydale High is now sparsely populated with all the students wearing dark, drab clothing. o   Cordelia finds out that she is once again the queen of Sunnydale high but there are some downsides: namely, curfew, monthly memorials and the bronze is a nest of tons of vampires. Including Xander and Willow. o   Cordelia quickly realizes that this Sunnydale is not one that she wants to be queen of. o   Walking home from school she is confronted by a now vampiric Xander and Willow. o   She tells them to find Buffy that she can fix things. o   Turns out that even in this Bizarro reality, Cordelia finds Xander and Willow lovey-dovey-vampires. o   Willow is “bored now” and wants to kill Cordelia. o   The White Hats show up led by Oz and Giles and Larry. o   They grab Cordelia and wisk her to the safety of the library. o   Cordelia tells Giles that they have to find Buffy, he’s her watcher he should know where she is. o   Giles is dumbfounded that Cordelia knows about any of that.

Undoubtedly Joyce must think so. o   Giles is leaving town for a retreat and they will discuss it further when he gets back. o   Willow and Xander are concerned that the hot steamy passionate environment of a bowling alley will reveal their secret love affair. o   Joyce and Buffy talk about Buffy’s options for college, Joyce is coming on really strong. She wants what is best for Buffy and feels that college is probably safer than a hellmouth. o   Spike finds Angel hiding out in the old mansion. He vows that he is going to get revenge on Angel because he holds him responsible for brainwashing Drusilla. o   Spike goes to the magic shop to find some way to magically hurt Angel. While there he spots Willow and gets the idea to use her instead. o   Mayor Wilkins has heard that Spike is back in town. He is too unpredictable to be allowed to roam the city. The Mayor wants him dealt with by committee. o   Angel has pretty much the same reaction as Joyce. He thinks that Buffy should go to college, not only will she be safer, but it will be easier if they are apart. o   Xander meets Willow in the science lab, Willow is about to cast a de-lusting spell to put an end once and for all to all the fluking that they have been doing behind everyone’s back. o   Spike shows up and takes the two of them hostage. He wants Willow to perform a love spell on Drusilla to make her fall deeply in love with him. o   Spike locks Willow and Xander up to go get the additional supplies that Willow will need to perform the spell. o   Cordelia and Oz track Buffy down in the library. Xander and Willow never showed up for bowling and they are concerned that something happened. o   They see the carnage in the science lab. Cordelia and Oz head out to retrieve Giles from the retreat. o   Buffy’s mom calls the library to check on her, in the background Buffy hears Spike talking to Joyce and rushes home. o   Spike is pouring his heart out to Joyce about Drusilla. Angel walking by sees Spike in Buffy’s house with Joyce and fearing for her life tries to go crashing into the house. o   He can’t enter because his invitation has been revoked. o   Joyce is terrified because this is the first she has seen of Angel’s return. o   Buffy shows up and invites Angel into the house. o   Spike says if they hurt him then Willow and Xander die. o   Angel and Buffy follow Spike to get his supplies. o   While at the magic shop,

Even more astounding is that he seems to be ‘reaching’ Buffy. * Back in the  library, Buffy gets the sit-rep on why everyone had glum faces. * Cordelia manages to sum it up nicely ‘Oz ate someone last night’ * Oz bails in dramatic fashion only to be reminded its time to get in his cage. * Buffy on patrol that night runs into Angel, the big reveal to Buffy that Angel has returned. * Willow, Xander and Cordelia make a trip to the morgue and we get our sighting of the infamous Scooby lunch box. * The group is trying to prove that Oz didn’t kill anyone. * Buffy puts Angel in shackles and chains back at the old mansion. * Buffy relieves Faith from duty on Oz-watch. She can’t sleep and she wants to do a little research. * Buffy tries to innocently quiz Giles about the possibilities surrounding a return from a hell dimension. Its pretty much all bad news. * At lunch Pete gets upset at the praise Debbie is giving Mr. Platt. * At Buffy’s next appointment with Mr. Platt she finds him dead. * Pete is furious with Debbie for destroying all of his evil potions. He hits her. * Debbie has a black eye when she goes to meet Oz and get his notes. * Pete sees the two of them together and goes beserk. * Now that the group knows Oz is not the killer they start to realize that all of the victims so far have Pete and Debbie in common. * Pete must be the killer. * The group splits up to find Pete. Pete finds Oz in his cage. * Pete is going to kill Oz and goes into crazy-mode. * He starts to toss Oz around and then the sun goes down. * Great Oz quote, ‘Time’s up. Rules change. * Oz turns into a werewolf and fights Pete. * Both Oz and Pete run off. * Faith darts Oz * Pete has the upper hand on Buffy in their fight until Angel bursts in and kills Pete. * He looks up and says Buffy? Then falls at her feet hugging her. * This episode somewhat revolves around Oz and his werewolf-ism. We haven’t seen too much of Were-Oz since the Phases episode near the end of Season 2. * Think about Oz, calm, stoic, man of few words. Oz is always in control.

Taking Ken's declaration about One Hundred Years passing below for just One Day above as a precise equation, the ratio breaks down like this: 100 Years is 3,155,760,000 seconds. 1 Day is 86,400 seconds. Thus 36,525 seconds will pass below for every single second that passes above. That's 10 hours, 5 minutes and 25 seconds for each Earthly second. if we total up the time below from when Buffy arrives at 31:11 to when she passes through the membrane back up to L.A. (at 41:50) we get a total of 1253 seconds of hell-time (just shy of 21 minutes). * His email breaks it all down with events and time estimates, etc. On Earth, while Buffy was below, how much time passed? 0.0343 seconds. She's lucky she didn't trip over herself on the way back. * So let’s get to the episode recap finally, shall we * 2 minute Buffy * Buffy’s back in Sunnydale after a Summer ‘not-so vacation’ in LA. * Joyce is having to adjust to having Buffy back in the house and the wall is feeling the pains of that adjustment as Joyce hangs an angry looking mask on the wall, oddly reminiscent of a vampire’s face. * Buffy wants to go find the Scoobies to let them know she is back in town. * Buffy finds Nighthawk prowling the streets. Xander almost stakes her as she sneaks up on him. * The gang is happy to have Buffy back but it’s not all sunshine and dales in Sunnydale. * The Scoobies take Buffy to see Giles * Giles is relieved to have Buffy back, but realizes that he isn’t going to rack up as many frequent flyer miles now on the council’s dime. * Buffy’s no longer wanted for murder but she is still expelled from school so she and her mother have to meet with Snyder to plead for readmission. * Snyder is tingly at the idea of keeping Buffy out of school despite her meeting the ‘not a murderer’ requirement for enrollment. * Willow stands Buffy up at the Espresso pump a new locale in Sunnydale. * At home, Joyce has invited the Scoobies over for dinner. * While getting the dinner plates Buffy finds a dead cat. * They bury the cat in the bushes and I don’t blame them, do you have any idea how much money the city charges for picking up dead animals? * While Buffy and her mom argue about Buffy’s school options, a surprisingly animated dead cat runs into the house. * Giles is called to come pick up the re-animated dead cat because God knows what the city would charge for that pickup.
