 Nathan Pope | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:39

Hey, y’all. I am Shay. This is the on air indie show. Welcome & enjoy. Episode 51. First, music history trivia for June 7th. In 1963 the Rolling Stones released their debut single “Come On”. Chuck Berry wrote the song. It reached No. 21 in the UK chart. The following year during their first US tour fans booed The Rolling Stones off stage at a gig in San Antonio, Texas. They brought some performing monkeys who had been the act on before the Stones back on stage for another performance. We meet North Carolina gospel blues guitarist Nathan Pope today. He received his first guitar at 2 and was teaching himself to play by the age of 7.  Now at 18, Nathan is performing at festivals and venues across the state with a band of his own and has been featured in North Carolina’s renowned Our State Magazine as a blues guitar prodigy. Nathan came in 1st Place in the Top 10 Under 20 at the 2021 International Dallas Guitar Festival. Featured today are tracks from his 2018 album I’m Not Alone. Nathan will continue to astound audiences with his incredible talent. An artist to watch. Enjoy the show! tracks "I'm Not Alone" 17:25 "Crossroads" 26:04 "When it comes to talented young people, Nathan Pope is top shelf.  His musical ability and skill level on the guitar is well advanced for someone his age.  His classic blues riffs and edgy rock overtones sound like a veteran guitarist who has been playing for years.  It was an honor to have him on the Carolina Blues Festival stage.  His performance gave the festival a huge wow factor and he received rave reviews from the crowd." - TL Lineberry, Carolina Blues Festival Chair "Sometimes you just "feel" it. You know what I mean: those chill-bumps that move up and down your arms when you hear the blues played so sweetly it hurts? Yup, that feeling. It happened to a whole room of blues fans when we all experienced the talent of young Nathan Pope on a December night at our Christmas Party.  It happened when we knew the person playing was connecting emotionally and mentally to the music.  That is Nathan Pope. Armed with a Goldtop and talent to match, Nathan brought a maturity to his interpretation of blues classics and his originals." -Mary London Szpara, President Charlotte Blues Society "This guy will make you wanna throw your guitar in the trash and take up badminton. Seriously, I had to stop what I was doing and turn around and say who the hell is that? WHOA!! Blew me away! Keep your eye on this cat!!" ~ Dr. Joe, President Natchyo' Grandma's Blues Network  Bio Provided by the Artist Nathan is a young blues guitarist from the heart of North Carolina. He received his first guitar at the age of 2 and was teaching himself to play by the age of 7. He gives credit to his Grandmother, Doris Powell, for her inspiration and love of music. Nathan spent years going to blues jams where he honed his craft under the mentoring of some of the area's finest musicians. Now at 18, Nathan has been performing at festivals and venues across the state with a band of his own for almost 6 years and has even been featured in NC's renowned Our State Magazine as a blues guitar prodigy. For several summers Nathan ventured to Clarksdale, Mississippi for the Pinetop Perkins Foundation Workshop where he studied under the likes of Bob Margolin, Jonn Del Toro Richardson, Victor Wainwright, and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram. In 2016 he represented the Triangle Blues Society in the Youth Showcase at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. In 2018 the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society honored him with their Mike Carr Junior Bluesman of the Year Award. He also released his first CD, I'm Not Alone,

 Jaimee Harris | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:06

Hey, y’all. I am Shay. This is the on air indie show. Welcome & enjoy. Episode 50. First, music history facts for June 1st. David Bowie released his self-titled debut studio album in 1967. They released two singles from the album. “Rubber Band” and “The Laughing Gnome”. The album’s failure cost Bowie his record contract with Deram Records who dropped him in April 1968. We meet 2018 Grammy nominee Jaimee Harris today. Her debut album Red Rescue was one of the top Americana albums that year. The Congress House Sessions sophomore album released in January. An incredible release, with a stripped-down version of Red Rescue. Jaimee has earned the moniker “The Next Queen of Americana Folk” by many industry watchers. We chat about everything and anything on the show. From her music, life experiences, women in music and prison reform. Enjoy! Tracks: "Depressive State" 16:23 "Snow White Knuckles" 34:51 "Catch It Now" 42:33 "Red Rescue" 57:06 Full Bio Provided by the Artist JAIMEE HARRIS “The Next Queen of Americana-Folk” (NPR) The Congress House Sessions In 2018, everything in my life changed. In May, I left my job to pursue music full time.  By August, I was on a musical rocket ship, opening shows all over the world for Mary Gauthier, who received a GRAMMY nomination in December of 2018. On paper—and on social media—it looked like a dream come true.  In a lot of ways, it was. But in reality, I felt like I was drowning.                 — Jaimee Harris On the heels of her debut album Red Rescue, hailed by many as one of the top Americana albums of 2018, Jaimee Harris does not disappoint with the release of The Congress House Sessions, a thoughtful, intimate EP with stripped-down recordings of some of her most requested songs.  These new recordings, recorded at the storied Congress House Studio by Mark Hallman (Carole King, Ani DiFranco, Eliza Gilkyson) and Andre Moran (Sarah Borges, Rickie Lee Jones), feature some of Austin’s favorite players, including Jane Ellen Bryant and Kris Nelson on backing vocals, Ray Bonneville on harmonica, Brian Patterson on electric guitar, and Sammy Powell on piano. Don’t let the healthy list of players mislead you; this is no large, speaker-rattling production.  Longtime friends add color and texture, but what you’ll hear is Harris and her guitar, delivering her songs in a setting closer both to what they were at their inception, alone in her room with a guitar, and how they have developed after a few years acclimating to performing without a band. Jaimee Harris loves fronting a band, and it shows.  During the years she built a devoted critical and popular following in Austin, Texas, she fronted a slate of seasoned musicians with admirable swagger. When she alighted upon the scene, this jaded music city, replete with (and weary of) singer-songwriters, woke up and took notice.  Here, finally, was a new voice—yes, her singing voice is noteworthy: rich, sonorous, full, delivering a uniquely stylized, throaty tone—but equally important, here was the new voice of a noteworthy writer and performer. If you meet Harris today, you’ll want to be her friend.  And no matter what part of the country you’re in, if you spend a day with her, she will convince you to meet up at a nearby roller coaster park/pinball arcade/skeeball hall she happens to know is awesome.  She will share embarrassing stories and laugh at your worst jokes (either because she finds them funny or because she finds hilarious how bad your jokes are).  Later, when you watch her sing, she’ll break your heart, cradle your heart, win your heart, then break it all over again. The next day,

Mike Altman was 14 years.Portland, Oregon folk-pop duo Fox and Bones dropped their album American Alchemy May 7th.Singer-songwriters Sarah Vitort and Scott Gilmore are on the show. The album is groovy, soul-infused folk-rock. Some track blues-heavy rock with cheeky observations of current societal constructs.Cool is, the duo sold their tracks as a non-fungible token, releasing each track as a 1/1 NFT during a week-long auction. Scott talks about this, and the opportunities with blockchains.Enjoy!tracks -"Changing Of The Guard" 11:01"Call Your Mother" 21:56 "Layers of Antiquity" 37:15Official BioNine out of ten ancient scholars agree that the third time is in fact a “charm” and for Portland, Oregon based modern vintage duo Fox and Bones, this rings true. As the final touches are being put on their third studio album, American Alchemy, (out on Dutch Records May, 2021) they can’t help but to reflect upon the five years and 536 shows that brought them to this prescient point in their career.Fox and Bones (Sarah Vitort and Scott Gilmore) formed in 2016 and were in the studio recording their debut record, The Remarkable Adventures Of, mere weeks after meeting. These early offerings were honest and raw, a blend of gentle folk with subtle instrumental backing. This led to several European and US tours before a second studio record emerged in 2018. This sophomore collection, Better Land, showed an influx of modern folk-pop trappings as the influences of producer Dominik Schmidt and engineer Matt Greco began to merge with the tour-worn stylings that were born from life on the road. This brings us to the charm, their upcoming record American Alchemy. This collection of songs finds Fox and Bones fully formed with elements of folk, pop, americana and soul fused lyricism joined together into an amalgamation of modern vintage goodness. With the guidance of producer/engineer Matt Greco, American Alchemy is the final iteration that the duo has been striving towards since they first charmed their way into each others lives so many years ago. https://youtu.be/NacRPkUQY6AOfficial music video by Fox and Bones performing "A Changing of the Guard" from the new record American Alchemy out May 7th on Dutch Records.  Plastic Cowboys | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:19

Hey, y’all. I am Shay. This is the on air indie show. Welcome & enjoy. Episode 46 First, music history facts for May 25th. In 1965 Blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter Sonny Boy Williamson died in his sleep. The Led Zeppelin biography Hammer of the Gods said during a 60s UK tour Sonny Boy had once set his hotel room on fire. He was trying to cook a rabbit in a coffee percolator. Darren McCarthy from alt-rock band Plastic Cowboys joins me today. We present three tracks from the released Splinter EP. The talented trio hails from Westmeath, Ireland. The Splinter EP deals with issues such as mental health, escapism and hangovers. Splinter is one of 3 EPs planned for release this year by the band. The band is one of thebuzzr’s most need to watch bands for 2021. Enjoy! Tracks: "Storehouse" 19:16:21 "Molly" 26:21:34 "Those Damn Lights" 39:27:31 Artist Bio Provided by Youngblood Music. SPLINTER is the new EP from Plastic Cowboys, scheduled for release on 12.03.2021. Kicking off what promises to be a busy 2021, Plastic Cowboys return with the release of their debut EP Splinter. Harnassing the plethora of feelings which will be familiar to most following a year spent largely in lockdown, the Westmeath indie-rock trio have tapped into the rollercoaster of emotions that are experienced through living in your own head. Managing to navigate the Covid-19 restrictions by splitting their time between studio and self-recorded sessions, this allowed the trio more freedom to explore and develop their sound. "With both Darren and Joseph having experience in production, the restrictions actually forced us to become more self-sufficient when it came to the recording. So we decided to take the positives from the situation and push on with our plans." The sense of introspection that a lot of people would have felt over the last year is captured perfectly in lead single None Like You which was released in December as a teaser to the EP. As Ciaran explains: "The walls were feeling tighter than I had ever felt before, which brought about a lot of soul-searching. It's easy for us as people, especially Irish people, to ignore our problems or try to mend them with the minimum of care, and expect everything to be solved. None Like You is about trying to grow and improve as a person by riding those highs and lows rather then getting swept awy by them." Splinter is the first of 3 EPs planned by Plastic Cowboys in 2021, culminating in a debut album from one of Irelands most rousing new bands. It was for Best Original Song “Space Oddity”. He performed the song that night, accompanied by the Les Reed Orchestra. The event went live via satellite to venues in America, France, Spain, Australia, Holland and Venezuela. Bowie would later revisit his Major Tom character in the songs “Ashes to Ashes”, ‘Hallo Spaceboy”, and “Blackstar”. Joining our show today is singer-songwriter and producer Rivita. Tracks played tonight: "Someone Else's Arms", "Chocolate" and "Lonely With Someone"https://youtu.be/ZYWSqiu3dSY From the artist: Hello beautiful people! Here is my brand new music video “Chocolate”. The music video was filmed in a hotel room in Washington D.C. just days before the 2020 Corona Virus Lockdown. The room had beautiful dark red, brown and maroon dark textures, very similar to the vibe of the song and fitting perfectly with the Chocolatey vibe I was going for. https://youtu.be/t7Dhmmi68-0 From the artist: Hello world! Here is a brand new music video for my new song "Someone Else's Arms". This music video was filmed in Los Angeles at the Coast of San Pedro. While I wrote and produced this song, I could only put it in feelings as a "sense of drowning", this imagery then led the entire production, from the mix to how the artwork was made and what's more the song's abbreviated version is SEA. This location was perfect to capture my vision. When we got there, we decided to keep things relatively simple given how personal this song it to me and taking in account our relatively small set up. This song means the absolute world to me, read more about it on Rolling Stone, India. Facebook Twitter Youtube Spotify Soundcloud Instagram Link Previous Next

We will play “Black Mirrors” as part of our Women of Rock segment tomorrow night.Band BioThe Banquets are an alt- rock/pop trio from Leeds with talent in their souls and ambition in their hearts. They had an explosive arrival to the music scene in 2019 and 2020, making an appearance at the Great British Folk Festival, and supporting the likes of The South (formerly The Beautiful South) and legendary icon Toyah Wilcox. The Banquets’ music is a simple mix of rock, blues, and pop music, whilst maintaining the great tradition of British rock. The musical influences of the band stretch far and wide, and go right back to the early 20th century blues scene. Their sound is hugely impacted by the music that has flowed out of America over the last century, and like most British music, it reflects back that sound and rubs in some northern British magic. Boston Massachusetts rock band The Freight are on the show today. The band’s sound is a mix of rock n’ roll, blues rock, soul and jam with a modern rock edge. You are going to love this band! Joining us are frontman Adam Tiro, bassist Stephen Anderson and drummer Marc Loverin. Source: The Freight are keeping the momentum going in 2021 with their 3rd single release of the year,  "Fly On".   The Freight are riding the up swing after their last single "Found" was their most successful release yet.  This latest single is an ambitious, thematic anti-ballad that clearly shows The Freight are much more than just rock n' roller's.  Their versatility and growth are on clear display with this song. "Fly On' is a spacious, ambient journey of string arrangements, percussion elements and big harmonies.  All the players have shining moments in the song and you can hear the band spreading their wings throughout.  The song is the bands most ambitious production yet and engineer/producer Jeff Rosen of Cherrywood Records completely delivered.  This song has vibes of vintage U2 deep cuts and has an almost cinematic feel to it.  The song builds as it goes and you can feel the instruments moving throughout, ultimately reaching the climactic ending with big harmonies, strings and emotion coming to a peak. "Fly On" sends the message, enough is enough....  You've been here for her too many times before and you can't keep doing that when you feel the way you do about her... Time for her to "Fly On". The studio is located in Hackney Central, UK, one of the biggest artistic hubs internationally. Muca is its founder. It has grown into a mixture of a recording studio, production company, music label and promotion company as well, working within the needs of today’s challenges. We have an open discussion about surviving in today’s music industry, and what it takes to make it - as an artist and a producer. It is an engaging episode to listen to. Bio from Muca I’m a musician who constantly looks at how to rediscover music and encourage others to join me on this adventure. Most recently I started Muca & La Marquise, The Beatflux, The LABRIT project, Alice SK with many more to come. Inspired by my main job as a music producer, I run my own music production studio, The Secret Warehouse of Sound, in Hackney Central, where I work with a broad range of musicians, supporting them in realising their vision. I’ve been surrounded by music since I was young, playing in several bands and projects, working in different studios in São Paulo Brazil I learned from some of the best Brazilian engineers and producers! I worked on very high profile productions and honed in my production and engineering skills. I moved to London over a decade ago where I joined the infamous SARM East (London Recording Studios) and soon became their in-house engineer. As a producer and engineer, my credits include L.A. Salami, Anoushka Shankar, Randolph Matthews, Declan Welsh & The Decadent West, Los Bitchos, The Dead Pirates, Tiger & The Homertons and others. Facebook Twitter Instagram Link

 Lisa Richard | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:03

Tonight's show hailing from New Brunswick, Canada, Lisa Richard. Lisa is a talented country singer-songwriter. She blows away listeners with her powerful voice and soulful performances, bringing together the sounds of rock, blues and country. Richard pays homage to those emergency services personnel in her single, “Uniforms”. The track is a tribute to the front-line workers who not only helped her through recovery after a horrific accident, yet all the people who supported her throughout her life, from the women and men in blue to paramedics and her parents. https://youtu.be/S8ZRJEYbeOk From Lisa: 30 years ago my life was forever changed by a near fatal car accident with a moose. This song and the video for "Uniforms", are my chance to honour and thank those first responders who were there for me on that day. It also recognizes the many other heroes who have always been present throughout my life. The truth is, we all have heroes in our lives - some wear highly recognizable uniforms and some are less obvious. The imprint our heroes leave remains forever. Who are are you thankful for today? * * * * * * This project is funded in part by FACTOR, the Government of Canada and Canada’s private radio broadcasters.
