This episode Harry is finally able to put Little Chicago to some real use, and gets down to business with tracking down Grey Cloak using a pretty nifty spell. Not only can he pinpoint the man's location, he can spy on the guy in real time while he has a conversation, and even manages to follow him all the way to a second meeting. This does not go as planned, though, because guess what! Cowl is still alive (Harry thinks that's Cowl, anyway) and he is able to not only detect Harry bu also throws some really strong magic at him that might have taken his head right off if the house wasn't warded. I was looking for a good piece of fanart and stumbled across this one that's a headcannon (ie. not based on a scene in the book) in which Molly, Thomas, Harry, and Mouse are all hanging out and I really liked it. Look how happy Mouse looks! So in these chapters, Harry decides that it's time to snoop around Thomas's place and see if there's anything linking him to the scenes that he's been studying. Unfortunately, there are quite a few things that link Thomas, and Harry is irritated because while he still doesn't think that Thomas is the murderer, he knows that anyone who comes across his creepy collage will definitely think so. I'm your host Natasha, coming at you with the last episode ever recorded on my piece of shit old desktop. It's the end of an era. A slow, clunky, beach-bally era. This episode, RoShawn and I talk about how we have some reservations about the fact that in some ways, this book feels like a step backward in terms of its treatment of female characters. We have the oh-so-original trope of women being targeted by a serial killer, a sexual aspect to their deaths, and then Molly the hot young woman just HAPPENS to be the one to actually experience an orgasm in front of the two men. Not a great start. RoShawn is willing to wait to come to any conclusions because Butcher has built up some goodwill by now, but he's gonna have to work extra-hard to get us on board. This episode, RoShawn and I have so so much to talk about and I'm really glad that we decided to split up the final eight chapters the way that we did. This last chapter is LOADED. We have Michael suddenly sweeping in and fixing things with Molly and the White Council, and RoShawn is really tickled that Michael turns this around on Harry and says "What if Molly was supposed to save you?" Also, there's the scene between Harry and Molly where she offers herself to him and as cringeworthy as it is, there's something really honest and solid about the way it's handled and written. RoShawn and I both approve how this whole thing went down, and we're hoping this points to better things in the future. However, in trying to find a satisfactory image of the trial of Molly Carpenter, I came up woefully short and decided that I would take a step back and use this piece after all because it's beautiful, if terrible and tragic. This episode, Molly goes to see the White Court, and it goes so much more poorly than Harry had expected. He goes in with some kind of plan, but when he realizes that the Merlin holds almost all the votes it's really a blow. Harry manages to outmaneuver the Merlin in the end, bu it turns out that doing too well is just as much of a death sentence as failing entirely, and the Merlin orders Molly's execution to be carried out immediately.
