Summary: A weekly podcast discussing cartoons.

Podcasts:

 Episode 211: Comic issue #20 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:24

GC13 discusses the twentieth issue of the current comic series (featuring the lovely Sardonyx on the cover). Every issue of the comic would make a good episode, but what do people always think of first when pondering which they’d like to see on TV? Action. This issue has it, on the strawberry battlefield. Of course it also has all of the other goodies one would expect: goofiness from Amethyst, and zen wisdom from Garnet.

Episode 210: Monster in the Garden | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:25

GC13 and David discuss an episode of Craig of the Creek written and storyboarded by two Steven Universe boarders (Lamar Abrams and Jeff Liu): Monster in the Garden. It’s about as slice-of-life as a story gets when the main character still traps a monster and earns a favor from the deer goddess. Sometimes trips to your grandparents’ house can be very exciting even if they’re very mundane, we guess. The important thing is that Craig’s grandmother is right: you should always use chocolate chunks, not chocolate chips.

 Episode 209: Lars' Head | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:42

GC13 and Isabelle discuss the exciting conclusion to the Wanted arc (as well as the exciting premier of zombie Lars), Lars’ Head. Lars has really come a long way, and this episode shows us that. (Of course this doesn’t make up for us not being shown how he becomes Lars of the Stars, but we can keep hoping for a spinoff.) Now he’s pink, doesn’t seem to need to eat, and places the happiness of the Off Colors over his own—quite a change. Then, of course, the big question: what do you hope for Lars to sing one day?

 Episode 208: Harmony #2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:52

GC13 and David discuss the second issue of the Harmony miniseries. Is it spicier or is it not? A lot of story beats did repeat between issues, but the stakes have definitely been raised. Subtle continuity continues to place this miniseries somewhere between Sadie Killer and Letters to Lars, and we can say with complete certainly that this is before Reunited (but really, would Barb still be forgetting Sadie didn’t work at the Big Donut at that point?). Issue #3 promises to be quite the middle of the miniseries though.

 Episode 207: Off Colors | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:13

GC13 and Isabelle discuss Off Colors (perhaps most noteworthy to some as the debut episode of Padparadscha). In this episode Lars definitely made an effort to better himself after his realization and demeanor shift from Stuck Together. He even became a bit of an action hero, at least as far as dishing out the hits was concerned. Of course if this episode doesn’t mean much to you for Padparadscha, it might still mean a lot to you as the secret origin of Captain Lars. We’ve seen much of where this goes, and it’s awesome.

 Episode 206: The Trial | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 24:17

GC13 and David discuss The Trial, made particularly interesting because now we know whodunnit: nobody dunnit. Really, we’ve learned so much since then. After Reunited we even know why Yellow was so angered by Zircon accusing her of shattering Pink: she was the one who let Pink have a colony in the first place, making her responsible. What powers might Blue and Yellow have that they never learned about or developed?

 Episode 205: Stuck Together | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 24:14

GC13 and David bring it all the way back to Stuck Together. Oh how far we’ve come. Aquamarine and the Topazes are both still great though. Steven may be accepted by Blue and Yellow now, but back in Stuck Together he still regarded them as cyclopean entities to be feared. We never did find out what could be worse than shattering, because in The Trial Yellow seemed eager to just shatter Steven and be done with the whole thing. Short of a brief appearance in Harmony #1 we haven’t seen Aquamarine or the Topazes. How much longer must we wait for them to be in another episode?

 Episode 204: Mortal Folly | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:20

GC13 and David discuss Ms. Sugar’s sixth Adventure Time episode: Mortal Folly. It’s the first Lich episode, and they made sure he was quite the presence. Even if they didn’t know what they would end up doing with him, they knew one thing: the Lich is not funny. He definitely controls the screen when he’s on it, and is built up as a big threat over the course of a very fast eleven minutes. The episode’s commentary track was actually quite informative, so if you have the discs then you should give it a listen.

 Episode 203: Harmony #1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:47

GC13 and David discuss the first issue of the Harmony miniseries. While we’re no closer to knowing for sure whether the comic ties in to the movie, we at least got to see the early stages of the effects the harmony core can have. We also got a new Sadie Killer song, in comic form. We also got Peridot making the most convincing argument in favor of Rock’s inherent superiority in the ancient game of Rock-Paper-Scissors. The next issue of Harmony comes out on September 5, so look for it then.

Episode 202: The Steven Universe movie teaser | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:39

GC13 and David discuss the teaser for the upcoming Steven universe movie. It’s a very short teaser, and it doesn’t do much besides tease, but you can’t deny how well it teases. Without telling us much, it immediately intrigues us. Of course the red crystal heart immediately brings to mind the upcoming comic miniseries: Harmony. What are the odds that the two aren’t related? Only time will tell. Our one regret with this podcast episode is not mentioning how a movie would be a great chance to bring back a voiced Opal or Sugilite. Cross your fingers, and never give up hopal.

Episode 201: Legs From Here to Homeworld | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:34

GC13, Isabelle, Sophia, and David discuss Legs From Here to Homeworld, premiered at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday and posted to the Cartoon Network app on Sunday. Oh boy, if you haven’t seen the episode then watch it. We’re all about that new Steven Universe, and you don’t want to be left behind. By the way, if you’d like to commission a piece of art from Sophia, check her Weebly page.

Episode 200: The State of the Universe | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:20

GC13 and David discuss the state of Steven Universe: where its story has been, and where it’s going. The State of the Universe is strong. Even though so much has changed since the beginning of the show (do you remember ruins? Monsters of the week? Distance models?), as the show has changed it’s kept everyone intrigued. Now we just have to wonder what we always wonder about: what’s coming next?

Episode 199: Heart of the Crystal Gems | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:49

GC13, Isabelle, and David finally get to discuss the bomb itself, probably the biggest one to date. Phenomenal. Whatever you think about Monday through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday definitely delivered the goods. (Though Ruby is certainly adorbable as always.) If you haven’t seen the bomb yet, you’re missing out! What did you think about the bomb? What did you think about– Well, no spoilers here, but you probably know some stuff that would be great to discuss.

Episode 198: The Heart of the Crystal Gems commercial | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:51

GC13, Isabelle, and David discuss the super-spoilery commercial for the Heart of the Crystal Gems bomb, as well as the bingo card Cartoon Network posted for it. Reunited will be a two-parter episode, meaning that after this bomb there should be two more episodes left in the season (assuming they don’t cut the season down to twenty-four episodes), so no matter how crazy the bomb gets there’s always plenty of room for even more craziness. The bomb starts today and runs through Friday. Are you hyped?

Episode 197: The Heart of the Crystal Gems promo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:52

GC13, Isabelle, and David discuss the promo for the upcoming Steven Bomb, entitled Heart of the Crystal Gems. The future may not be nothing but Ruby, but you can be sure there will be a lot of Ruby in the upcoming episodes. The closest thing we’ve seen to this episode was the Sardonyx arc, but surely there will be some serious twists this time around. Perhaps Ruby and Peridot can commiserate? Where did Sapphire run off to though? I guess we’ll find out.
