 Episode 181: I Am My Mom | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:53

GC13 and David discuss the (current) peak of Aquamarine’s glory: I Am My Mom. It’s the second of three episodes Aquamarine has been in so far, and she doesn’t let us down. Even Topaz is a sweetheart, protecting Connie from Amethyst’s questionable attempt to rip her out and then attacking weakly enough for Connie to block despite being able to break Steven’s bubble with a single strike. And now Steven is on his way to Homeworld. It’s always his decisions that teach us interesting things, since he never asks followup questions.

Episode 180: Are You My Dad? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:29

GC13, Isabelle, Sophia, and David discuss the full-screen debut of Aquamarine and Topaz: Are You My Dad?. Peridot mentioned that her height was indicative of her rarity and importance, but we’re still no closer to understanding what height actually means for a Gem. (Aquamarine sure doesn’t have much of it.) Are there more Gems like Steven? The show hasn’t been afraid to let its characters be wrong before.

 Episode 179: The Good Lars | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:16

GC13 and David discuss the ube debut: The Good Lars. This was Lars’s last chance to be a good Lars, before he became Captain Lars (or, if you prefer, Lars the Baker—kicker of butts and taker of names). He opened up about his feelings, and Steven and Sadie tried their best to make him happy, but he didn’t make it to the potluck. Still, you have to hope that he continues baking when he makes it back to Beach City.

 Episode 178: Doug Out | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:28

GC13 and David discuss the episode Doug Out, where the bomb portion of its Steven Bomb actually began. It was our first in-depth look at Mr. Maheswaran, and he turned out to have the same lovably goofy side he had briefly showed in other episodes—he didn’t even need the clown nose. Despite flashlights apparently not working correctly in Funland, and some confusion with the fence, everyone loves Doug.

 Episode 177: Lion 4: Alternate Ending | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:30

GC13 and David go back to the retrospective episode discussions to talk about the beginning of another bomb: Lion 4: Alternate Ending. Anagrams are fun, and Steven may not have been on the right path; did Rose eat Steven’s fry bits? Plus, like some sort of Sphinx, Lion is mysterious—terribly mysterious. We’re still unsure of exactly where he came from, or why he didn’t warp directly to Rose’s garbage dump with the ominous pink space ship. Plus, what exactly is inside the treasure chest in his mane?

Episode 176: the Craig of the Creek pilot | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:51

GC13 and Sophia discuss the pilot for Matt Burnett and Ben Levin’s new series: Craig of the Creek. It’s a setup that will be familiar to fans of Ed, Edd, and Eddy: a neighborhood of kids out playing. Except this time with an imagined fantasy settling and a lot of self-narration. The show will be airing this year, so make sure to check it out and see what these Steven Universe alumni have been making!

 Episode 175: Anti-Gravity | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:39

GC13 and David discuss Steven Universe’s second graphic novel: Anti-Gravity. In this second graphic novel apparently the comic team felt like introducing some interesting tidbits about Gems. Of course they also heavily featured Ronaldo, which may make some people happy and others less so. There are other Gem satellites out there, somewhere. Could the show take us to one some day, or will they forever be comic-only?

Episode 174: The Chamber of Frozen Blades | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:54

GC13 and David discuss Ms. Sugar’s third episode of Adventure Time, The Chamber of Frozen Blades (and also completely fail to recall the title of Revolutionary Girl Utena). Ms. Sugar really brought the anime side of ninjas to this episode, and to great effect. Alas, Finn and Jake are fickle creatures and never use their ice ninja powers again, but at least there are plenty of reasons to choose from to explain it. Thankfully Gunter’s egg contained a cat, and not… Ugh… That other thing…

 Episode 173: Stranded | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:28

GC13, Isabelle, and Sophia discuss the lore bomb also known as the Stranded event, containing Lars of the Stars and Jungle Moon. Seeing Lars and his off-color crew was quite fun, even if the episode raises certain questions about how far Lars really has come (and how good he is at estimating relative ship speeds). It was Jungle Moon that stole the show though, with a big reveal and our first real look at Gem colonization and the impacts (perhaps literal) it can have on the natives of other worlds.

Episode 172: Sadie Killer and Kevin Party | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:50

GC13 discusses Sadie Killer and Kevin Party, finishing off the batch of app-released episodes before Stranded airs on Friday. Do or Donut: GC13 could use a donut apparently, just like the Big Donut’s sign could use some updating. Sadie could also use some backup, but at least she finds a creative outlet (and it wasn’t even a dream). Kevin Party finishes the saga of the aftermath, and anyone who likes Kevin was surely happy to have more Kevin Time.

Episode 171: Raising the Barn and Back to the Kindergarten | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:28

GC13 discusses the latest episodes to make their way from the app to the television: Raising the Barn and Back to the Kindergarten. These are two of the sadder episodes in one of the sadder packs of episodes, but at least they end with a bright spot (those sunflowers would warm anyone’s heart). How long it will be until we see Lapis again is anyone’s guess, but you can be sure we’ll see here again some time. Merry Christmas everyone!

Episode 170: Dewey Wins and Gemcation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:02

GC13 and Sophia discuss the two episodes that have most recently reached television: the misleadingly named (or completely accurately named if you get the historical reference) Dewey Wins and the normally named Gemcation. How do you feel about Steven’s inability to tell that he’s upsetting Connie? How do you feel about his martyr complex? How tough should Gems be compared to humans? And the big question: was Pearl really being prevented from speaking in Gemcation, or was she just having a hard time bringing herself to speak?

 Episode 169: Power Animal | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:31

GC13 and David discuss Ms. Sugar’s second episode of Adventure Time, Power Animal. Not only was Ms. Sugar pivotal for adding tears to the episode – Finn isn’t supposed to cry, but she managed to get tears of joy into the episode – but she is even responsible for the personal anecdote that led to the gnome king devouring the bean dip at the party. Plus: Chip Dip Triple Flips Are Hip.

 Episode 168: Lion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:34

GC13 wonders about the mystery of Lion, and the lions described by Buddy Buddwick in his journal. We don’t even know whether Rose’s secret pride of lions was normal or if they were pink and Buddy somehow managed to not relate this fact (though it would make sense that they were normal and Rose chose Lion from this or a later batch). What questions do you have about Lion? What answers do you have? We may be getting some answers on the show soon, but until then we’ll have to wonder together, so we’d better get down to it.

Episode 167: Issues 1-4 of the comic series ("Warp Tour") | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:11

GC13 and David discuss the first four issues of the new comic series, which for some reason have been dubbed “Warp Tour” when compiled together. It’s a great start to the comic series, with great humor, characters we don’t often get to see, and an art style far more faithful to the show. It’s also chock full with background goodies, like any good comic series. If you’re not following the series we heartily recommend it, whether you read it in print or digitally. And apparently issues #5-8 not be called “Marble Madness” when collected together. Oh well.
