 TED-2014-12-24 – Merry & Happy Holidays !!! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:39

Merry & Happy Holidays !!! Twas the night before CES, when all through the hall Not a gadget was stirring, not even the tech mall. The displays were all done and each booth done with care, In hopes that the Press, would soon be there. The devices were nestled all snug in their spots, While visions of interviews danced in their heads all aglow. And Todd in his chair, and us by his side, We had just settled our brains for a long podcast and show. When out on the floor there arose such a clatter, We sprang from the booth to see what was the matter. Away to the floor we flew like a flash, Tore open the doors and ran for our stash. The desert was hot and we had to do the show Gave the lustre of new tech and objects to and frow. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a TPN.TV, and eight podcasters near. With a little old mic, and video so lively, I knew in a moment it must be a fan. More rapid than Internet his supporters they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! "Now Todd! now, Rob! now, Jamie now, Don and the other Todd too! On, Langley! On, Starman! and CheesyG! To the front of the show! to the plane we will go! Now fly away! Fly away! Fly away all!" As everyone leaves before the group flies, When they meet with an obstacle, not enough seats to fly. So up to the front the podcasters they flew, With the plane full of Tech, and Gadgets too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the PA. The ranting and raving of each little goof. As I new in my head, and was turning it round, Time to make a recording of every word today. We were dressed for the day, from our head to our feet, Covered with stashes of loot. A bundle of Tech Toys we had flung on our backs, And it looked like a podcaster, just opening his pack. His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow. The bump of mic he held tight in his hand, And the tech smoke it encircled all the tech land. He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly! He was chubby and plump, a right generous sole, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself! A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. He spoke many words, and went straight to his work, And filled all the drives and blogs, then turned with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, out to post the show I must go! He sprang to his plane, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the sound of a thistle. But I heard them exclaim as they he flew out of sight, "Happy Holiday’s to all, and to all a Merry night!"  TED Podcast Extras – Independa | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:35

Independa is a cloud-based software solution from our customer organization to the care recipient to the personal caregiver. Care recipients enjoy social integration and important appointment and medicine reminders through the world’s first and only TV with embedded remote care services. While the organization and the friends and family of the care recipient engage through a comprehensive integrated online portal to establish and track alerts for when something isn’t quite right, appointments through a shared calendar, fully integrated health, activity and safety metrics, and more. Uses: - Senior Living adds unique amenities in your community, increasing your occupancy, value, and customer satisfaction. - Senior Care beyond “I’ve fallen and can’t get up!" - Home Care providers use it to expand services while reducing costs yet improving margins. Leverage your best assets – your people – to keep care recipients home longer and more safely. The AnyTV Companion lets the Remote Care technology appear on the vast majority of TVs in the United States and hundreds of millions worldwide. It’s ideal for those installations where an investment in a relatively new HDMI-enabled smart TV has already been made. The functionality available to a remote care recipient will be identical to our typical installation where our software resides within an LG Commercial TV. Caregiver Dashboard for all features chosen, as well as technology interfaces designed to be extremely easy for the caregivers and the care recipients alike. The dashboard is at the core of the solution, providing an easy-to-use, centralized view into all functionality. The control panel for engaging with and monitoring all features chosen and deployed. The dashboard can be accessed via the caregiver web application through any computer or the mobile application or smart phone device. Software Interface is delivered to the care recipient through a friendly, simple user interface called Angela. It offers a fun and inviting antidote to the number one issue for the elderly looking to remain independent: social isolation. Featuring an expertly designed and easy to use, intuitive interface, it comes ready to use with larger screen fonts, higher contrast and brighter colors geared to the needs of the elderly. Available for televisions or tablets. Angela options: - Video chat. - Integrated health information. - Important appointment reminders. - Games. - Medication reminders. - Easy family photo and message sharing. - Community events and dining options. And more... Cloud Software Solution ensures that you have the flexibility to choose the features that are right for your needs, at any time, for any individual, and over the months and years of that individual’s changing needs. Features can be added as needed and are always up-to-date. Examples: Health Monitoring is integrated from the get go, even though it may not be the right time for it just yet for any particular recipient. Features: - Smart Reminders. - Broadcast Messaging. - Integrated Monitoring. Seems like an interesting concept as almost everyone can interact with a TV these days. I do not know of any other such device for medical monitoring that is TV based. Will give you more of an update after CES(consumer electronics show) next month as I will be there to check it out. If you are regular listener to my podcast I would like to Please hear from you, get to know you and Welcome you to my HOME @ TheElderDivide@ElderDivide.info Help Support the Show! if you feel this podcast is of value I have given you various ways to support the podcast or use the TED Listener Support or Support the Show! with product links on my blog sites.

TED Podcast Extras – Super Ears | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:53

Put on your Super Ears for wireless, assistive, enhanced and amplified TV listening and other hearing needs. Many others like it in a range of prices, brands and models. Ear buds or full headphones. If you just need the personal listening as not to disturb others or want added clarity for your TV listening enjoyment, this might be your best choices. Personal listening for you whether your hearing impaired or not. Things to look for: - Compatibility with various types of TV, PC or Game controllers. - Wireless range 30 or more feet. - Stereo not mono sound. - Adjustable volume, tone and balance controls. - Clarity controls for speech intelligibility. - Automatic volume control. - Easy to use controls. large enough to adjust. - Battery life. 12 or more hours. - Transmitter charger base for 1 or 2 receivers. - Zero ear-pressure wearing comfort. earbuds or headphones. some come as over the shoulder. - Lithium batteries. for longer life over Ni-MH batteries. not just charge lifetime. - Included minimum: AC adapter, rechargeable batteries, base unit, headset and manual. I have given you a range of these type of devices and links on my blogs. My personal preference would be for the Sennheiser brand for the earbud version as this is a top quality brand. Did not find much for headphone type but I know they are out there. TV assistive brands: Sennheiser wireless assistive TV listening system. TV Buds™ personal TV listening system. TV Sound television listening system. TV Ears wireless headset TV & room noise amplifier. TrueDio® Ears digital TV wireless headset system. Serene TV-Direct TV amplifier system.  TED-2014-12-03 – Security Systems | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:18

Elder Security Systems. What are the basics and what to look for. Learn about components in a security system and new technology available to help protect your home or apartment. Security Systems can seem intimidating at first, but they are easy to use. They will help protect you from intruders, life and property hazards. More like Elder Safety Systems. Also newer wireless systems can be put in without the need to run wires to every location, providing the same protection. Every security system has at least on keypad usually located near an entrance for arming and disarming when you enter or leave. You also might have a hand-held wireless key or remote device for convenience. Perimeter protection is your first line of defense with window, door and shock sensors letting you know when they are open or closed. Alarms can go off immediately or with a timed delay. Then you have the interior protection for glass breakage or motion protection. These can be setup to ignore your small to medium size pets below 60 pounds. Life and Property is probably the most important part with smoke, gas, carbon monoxide, fire or flame, temperature and water sensors. Even newer earthquake and storm sensors or video cameras that are either recorded, monitored or remote wireless viewable. You can even be notified about eminent threat or other dangers. Temperature sensors can be for heat or cold detection. Smoke or fire detectors can be for heat, smoke or flame detection along with carbon monoxide or natural gas detectors. Water sensors for high or flood and possible sump pump failure in homes. Temperature sensors can be for heat or cold especially if you don't want pipes to freeze. You can setup the system with zones if you have a large home or apartment. All kinds of options to meet your needs. If you don't install a Security System then follow the Security Tips at a minimum. If you install a system that is DIY(do-it-yourself) then make sure you shop around. I have mentioned some wireless systems in TED Podcast Extras. Installed value system are not always the best way to go as they usually have long monitoring contracts that make them more expensive. Wireless or Wired systems cost about the same for installation. Insurance for you home or apartment may have discounts for Security Systems. Why Do You Need A Security System? - A burglary is committed every 10 seconds in America. This adds up to almost 13 million homes. - Average $1,300 loss per burglary. - National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association states burglars attack homes without a security system 3 times more often than homes with a system. Components: - Keypads and Control devices. (wired or wireless panels keypads modules). - Perimeter Protection. (window and door sensors). - Interior Protection. (glass breakage, motion sensors and cameras). - Life and Property Protection. (smoke, gas, fire, temperature and water sensors). - Communication and Monitoring. (personal or monitored systems). Security Tips: - Securing Doors and Windows. (home, apartment, garage or storage). - Install a deadbolt on entrance doors. (or panels). - Bar for Sliding Glass doors or panels. - Garage door locks or frosted windows. (additional bolts or clamps on tracks). - Break resistant glass on exterior windows. (including door windows). - Random Light system. (interior or motion exterior). - Random Radio or TV systems. (timers). - Spare keys hidden. (avoid the obvious). - Coded entry systems. (keypad or sensor) - NO notes on doors. (invitation for burglars) - Lighted entryways. (steady or on by detectors). - Request ID from sales or service personal. - Only last name on mailboxes. (homes or apartments). - Request for 911 or assistance should be made by yourself without opening doors. - Dogs that bark or large for protection. (well trained). - Find a hiding spot indoors for valuables. (or have a safe). - Identification on ALL valuables. (painted,

Do not count on just these devices to get you by, but they can help you. Health issues are the number one reason elders have problems while driving. Do not let yourself be one of the 5 to 6 thousand drivers 65 and older that die each year, that twice as many as teens who die each year in accidents. So stay safe and enjoy the privilege of driving! Use tech wisely. Some of these list of technologies used to be available only on luxury cars but are now moving down to even regular cars of all classes. Infrared and thermal imaging technology to see down the road in darkness and display potential hazards. - Lane Departure Warning. Forward-facing camera detect lane markers and sound alarms when these are crossed. - HUD or Heads-Up Display. Projects information like speed and other info onto the windshield, reducing the need to take your eyes off the road. - Tire Pressure Monitoring systems. Alert for low or sudden lose of pressure. Some even show current pressure. - Emergency (BA)Brake Assist and (ABS)Anti-Lock Brake System and (TRAC)Traction Control. - Hill Start Assist. Manual and automatic transmission drivers get assist when going uphill after a stop. - Adaptive Headlights. Follow the path your driving even around corners to reduce surprises. Also automatically level for dips and rises in the road. - Active Cruise Control or (DLCC)Dynamic Laser Cruise Control systems. Keeps your vehicle a safe distance from the car directly ahead even works with (BA). - Self-Drying Brakes. Intermittently brake very lightly in wet conditions to clear disc brakes of water. - Auto-Leveling Suspension. System automatically adjusts the suspension to counteract crosswinds while driving. - Pedestrian Detection. Sounds an alarm if any object is detected in your path. Also works with night vision. - Rear-mounted Radar and (RCTA)Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Alerts you if object approaching during backing from parking place or driveway. - (GPS)Global Positioning systems for navigation and vehicle tracking. - In-car Internet and OnStar system Safety Connect. Automatic Collision Notification for airbag deployment or a severe rear-end collision with 24/7 response center. - Driver capability or Attention Assist.
