SolarFocus solar battery, light and cover for your eReader. Cover looks smart and feels great in your hands without being bulky or heavy. Form-fitted cover keeps your reader safe from damage while adding functionality with a built-in solar panel that charges the reserve battery for the LED reading light while also providing extra power to the reader.  TED Tutorials – Email Basics part 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:21

Email Basics part 2 This will cover the basics for Contacts or your online address book plus calendars in Gmail. You can get to these by clicking on the Gmail pulldown menu just be low Google in upper left corner of your gmail account when open. It will show Gmail, Contacts and Tasks. Click on Contact to get into your address book. For Calendars you will need to click on the white rubics cube like icon for apps next to your email address in upper right corner of open Gmail. This will show various apps available but for now we want to click on Calendar for this section when we get to it. For Contacts if you are using for the first time there will be nothing or if you have you have not changed the Settings, General tab it will add people for every message you send if they are not in the address book already by default. If you don't want this feature then go into your Settings, General tab and (Create contacts for auto-complete:) check next to (I'll add contacts myself) then Save Changes at the bottom of General tab. You can add people to your Contacts at any time manually. Also if you are using it for the first time lately you will see a new interface change from Google. You can leave this new preview by clicking on Leave the Contacts preview. This will get you back to regular Contact in which you can add by clicking on New Contact or selecting current contacts and editing, deleting, importing, exporting or printing using pulldown menus. Clicking on Settings in upper right lets you change language, country, page size and keyboard shortcuts. While in contacts you can search or put contacts in groups you create like friends, business or whatever you setup. Also if you delete a contact by mistake or need it later you have thirty days to recover them before they are permanently gone. When you add a new contact it can be setup as Standard or Business format. Things you can add to contact is Email, Phone, Address, Birthday, URL a note and other things under the Add pulldown menu. Business adds things like Company name, Work Phone and others under Add pulldown menu. You can also set a Picture or Title to both types of Contacts. This should give you everything you need to create your Contact lists. Next we have Calendars you can get to as stated in first part of this tutorial. Then just click on Create and add your event. It has many features and can be setup as Public or Private, plus things like location and emails or recurring events. As with any online product you can access this from any location after you sign-in to your web Gmail. You can even setup Notifications to your phone of upcoming events. It even allows for location and display on Google Maps. Other features are also available. It can be setup to Day, Week, Monthly 4-Days or Agenda view of your Calendar. Multiple calendars can also be created if needed. Sharing is available. You set the preferences and who can see or edit events. Say you want to have your own Calendar but still need to keep appointments for your elder family member separate, this can be done in Settings under Calendars tab then go down to Create new calendar. From there it is self explanatory. Under the Settings in upper right corner you can customize many features to your needs for General, Calendars, Mobile Setup or Labs. Just play with them and see if they are what you want. Most are self explanatory. Also using multiple calendars with events, you can have notifications sent to that persons phone to keep them on track. These standard ways to work with contacts and calendars only work if you are using a compatible web browser. They are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and lastly Microsoft Internet Explorer that I suggest you not use, also it does not support desktop notifications. Opera is another good web browser but not on the supported list, but it may work fine. Contacts or Calendars can also be synced with other programs or devices. References:

 TED Tutorials – Email Basics part 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 24:31

Email Basics part 1 Email Basics and the world you feel left out of. No worries, it is easy to learn and use. Learn what it is and how to use it. This will be another three part tutorial series. Part 1 will cover what is email, providers, features. Part 2 will cover Calendars, Contacts and settings. Part 3 will cover email safety, manage, plus some tricks and tips. These will be covering the most popular free online email GMAIL. A later series will cover other free online webmails, plus stand alone email programs for both Windows and Android, plus encryption. Whether you are new to email communication or not, this might be helpful to you are someone you know. First we need to learn what an email address is. Snail Mail(US Postal Service) vs Email, Delivery, Time, Contents and Costs. Tools, Access, Management, Private, Multi-person and Webmail access from anywhere and anytime. Email Address is like your home or postal address to receive communications and packages. With email you can receive or send text or file attachments. The email address identifies an email box to which email messages are delivered. This is a universal format for the Internet. The first part of and address is the local or user name followed by the (@)at symbol and domain or suffix like .com, .org, .edu, .gov or others to make up an email address. Similar to my email address of TheElderDivide@ElderDivide.info for my podcasts. If you separate the local name with a (-)dash or (_)underline, you will have to use this in your email address for most programs. Separation by a (.)period is in the local part is ignored in Gmail. Example is basic.email@gmail.com vs basicemail@gmail.com, you see the period is necessary in the domain but not the local part for Gmail only. If you setup an account with someone else and this period is in the address you will have to use it. Also the local part is not case sensitive but the domain is. So you could enter TheElderDivide@elderdivide.info vs theelderdivide@elderdivide.info with the first or local part with capitals or not, both getting delivered to same email box. Delivery of email is done electronically over the Internet vs an envelope or box for mail. Email delivery is done by your Email Service Provider, in this case Google Gmail. Also remember NOT to misspell an email address as it could be delivered to that wrong address or returned as undeliverable. Time is takes for email to reach its destination is anywhere from instantly to a few minutes. Mail or packages on the other hand may take two to ten days. As for receiving email it depends on when you login or check you email or if standalone email program how often you have is look for and retrieve them. Contents can be just the message for email or attachment files like documents, files, videos, images and more. Mail is just the letter inside the envelope or contents of a package. Cost of most email is free but you can have as part of your own Internet Domain or Email Service Provider. Mail it is the price of stamps or postage and or shipping costs. Some Productivity tools that come with Email are Contact Lists or email addresses and Calendars or more. Most accounts for things like Facebook, Twitter or Google Plus require you to have an email address. Management is the filing, labeling, finding, prioritizing, grouping or filtering. You can control most SPAM Email. Webmail like Gmail is accessed through your Web Browser so it does not care what operating system or browser you use to access it or what type of computer,

 TED Tutorials – Internet Basics part 3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:21

Internet Basics part 3 Search and how to use it. Tricks and Tips. With (www)world wide web and a search engine like google you can access the world of billions of websites with all the information you want just a few clicks away. Search Engines are special websites that you type-in keywords and get matching results. Results can be web pages, text, images, documents, databases and other files. These search engines use algorithms then a web crawler or bot on the Internet for results daily, keeping there listings up to date. Sometimes a new website may appear within hours. Essentially a Search Engine indexes its results in there own database or directory you see with your search. These results can be in the form of a hyperlink to your results from search keywords. Search results can also come from websites using (SEO)search engine optimization effecting how high a ranking a website results are listed. I will show you how to get the results you want. Sometimes the way you put in keywords is not enough to narrow the results. You may have to type it like a question or sentence. Also which results to use as far as paid or ranking on the results page. Sometimes the first, second or third result might not be what you want. Website owners using SEO, AdWords a form of online advertising or pay per click that can affect their ranking. Not necessarily giving you what you want for results. Also you might have to go to more than the first page of results to get to what you want. Another thing to consider is safety of sites listed on the Internet. Using a addon like WOT that I mentioned in the previous tutorial can help you decide if the results you get from a search is safe to click on and go to. This combined with a good anti-virus, anti-phishing, anti-malware software can help protect you from malicious sites. Search Engines try to delete bad sites from their databases but this is an ongoing process an some bad links slip through. Leaving protection up to you. The main way to search is to goto Google, Bing or Yahoo. These each have their own things you may like or dislike similar to different Internet Browsers. These are the main search engines along with others you can use. I mentioned DuckDuckGo and StartPage in the previous tutorial that hide your search results from being tracked. These like StartPage just uses result from Google but filters them through their site instead of using Google itself. This can be kind of handy if you want fresh results on a search and not targeted ones from your previous searches. Like everything else these days, advertisers try to target what pages you go too. You may also have a separate search window on your browser beside the address bar that uses your default search engine you configured in settings. Most current versions of browsers have dropped this and just use the address bar. Just click on either the address bar, search window or search page window then type your keywords. You can either enter a word, phrase, question or sentence here. Most search engines may also offer you assistance in these search keywords or a correction too your spelling of these keywords.

 TED-2015-02-04 – Elder Games | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:55

Elder Games. Yes, the 50+ generations love games too. Did you know that according to a survey done by the (ESA)entertainment software association that almost half of you play video games. The generation that grew up with Atari, Sega, Magnavox, Mattel, Fairchild and Coleco in the early 70's is still playing games. Some with grandkids others play themselves. This generation of game players is expected to grow. The Odyssey was the first home video console in 1972 then came the VES, 2600, Intellivision, ColecoVision, Genesis and others. I would bet that at least two thirds of you played or had one of these console games in the 70's to early 80's. Later on in the 70's came the consoles at your local shops, restaurants and bowling alley's. Who doesn't remember games like Pong, Space Invaders, Galaxian, Pac-Man, Asteroids and others. It is kind of funny how you play these day's too. I watched a recent news segment that showed 50+ boomers playing current games like Grand Theft Auto. They would obey the rules of the road while driving. Things like stopping at stop signs or not speeding. But then they were just as cruel and blood thirsty at shooting or hitting criminal types as any younger kid would be playing these type of games. Kind of interesting how you act. Links to Video Game History, Manufactures and Games: - Video game console history of first through eighth generation. - Golden age of arcade video games. - List of arcade video games. - Timeline of arcade video game history. - Pinball. - Video game arcade cabinet. - Arcade system boards. Video game sources: - List of video game websites. - Lists of video games. - Classic PC Games. - MS-DOS Games. - The Old School Emulation Center. I have owned many different consoles myself. The Atari 400, 800 and 2600. I even tried to start an arcade in the town of Silverton, OR called SilverFUN about 5 or six years ago. It had pool tables, ping-pong table, bumper pool, darts, one pinball machine and two retro mini video game machines that played over 100 games that was two thirds the size of a full size video arcade machine. This was a town with only one movie theater, NO skate park and nothing for kids to do. It never did well so it closed. But the retro machines were definitely a hit with the older crowd. So don't let anyone tell you your too old to play. Enjoy and get a high score. Now we have newer consoles like the Microsoft Xbox One, Sony Play Station 4, Nintendo Wii and PC games keeping the video games industry alive. We even have handheld game consoles, Smart phone or tablet Apple iOS or Android games or the ones you can play on your TV set-top box like Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple, Google or others.

Internet Basics part 2 Browser Settings, or how to customize to your needs. Also add-ons or extensions for safety when first using your browser. First Settings depend on the browser you use. Mozilla Firefox Settings can be opened by clicking on three horizontal lines in upper right corner. Then click on Options. Start with General, make sure Startup check box is unchecked. Select Show my home page or Blank in drop-down. Home Page you can put in custom entry like https://startpage.com/eng/ or https://www.google.com or https://duckduckgo.com or whatever start page or your own website you want. Setting up your favorite Search Page on Startup means that whenever you need to search or press on the Home button this will be available. Downloads select Save files to click Browse and select your Downloads folder. Next on top row select Tabs check all boxes. Click Search at top, Default search suggestions choose your default. Check the Provide search suggestions. One-Click search engines, check the ones you want. Click top Content tab check Block pop-up windows then your Default font, Arial Size 15 or greater is best for elder visuals. Languages select your preferred. You can skip Applications tab on top. Next top tab click Privacy select under Tracking Tell sites that I do not want to be tracked, History I would select Never remember history. That way when you close your browser it cleans-up old history of sites you have been to. Location Bar select what you want I usually chose Nothing. Security tab on top, then click on top three boxes. Leave Passwords alone, better to use something like LastPass. Skip Sync. Advanced is up to you if you understand it, otherwise leave defaults set by Firefox. Google Chrome Settings can be opened by clicking on three horizontal lines in upper right corner. Same as Firefox. Next under On startup click on Open a specific page or set of pages. Then Set pages, this is where you enter and set your opening page when starting Chrome. Under Appearance check Show Home button and Always show bookmarks bar. You can change the home page that you go to when clicking Home button here by clicking change. Next Search click on left pull down menu and select your preferred search engine page. People you can check Enable Guest browsing and Let anyone add a person to Chrome, these are your choice. Default browser is where you can set Google Chrome if you want. This is used when you click on any URL or link no matter where you are even one on a document. Last is Show advanced settings or where you can set Privacy, I check all except Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google and Enable “Ok Google” to start a voice search. These are up to you but I think Google gets enough information about us without sending reports on pages we use or crash reports. Passwords and forms is same as Firefox leave these blank and use a safe alternative for passwords like LastPass. Web content is where you set font size and page zoom. I like to use Medium and 110% as helps with visuals and elder reading. Lets face it everyone’s eyesight gets worse with age. Might as well use the settings to make thing easier to read. Downloads is where you can set location, usually the Downloads folder you have. HTTPS/SSL and Google Cloud Print should be skipped unless you are an expert. System I check Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed so that if you accidentally close Chrome or reboot system you don’t loose something you might have been doing in Chrome. Now click Hide advanced Settings and you are done, close tab by clicking on small x to right of Settings tab. Other browsers are similar these days but these are probably the top two and safest to use.
