Shin splints were the very first injury I had. I had them so severely, my shins were not only tender to the touch, but were black and blue from injury. Shin splints is a catch all term used for pain between the knee and the ankle. Pain on the outside part of the leg is known as anterior pain and pain on the inside of the leg is known as medial pain.
