Student of the Gun Radio

Summary: Being a Student of the Gun is not about being a novice or beginner. Student of the Gun represents a life’s journey of education, enlightenment and the enjoyment of firearms. Each week Student of the Gun will introduce our listeners to all manner of firearms related topics be they sport, recreation or personal defense. Unlike the television format, through the magic of digital radio, we will have the opportunity to explore topics more deeply rather than just give them a quick glance. Discussions will address both that which is current news in the firearms world as well as traditions and foundational principles. Student of the Gun, a beginner once, a student for life.

SOTG 305 – California High School Diplomas: The New Participation Trophy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:21

Ignorance, distraction, and guilt; that is how you keep a free people subservient. California has upped the ante in the ignorance department with new form of participation trophy. While nothing that the people who elected Governor Moonbeam twice do should surprise us, Kalifornia has sunk to a new low in keeping its peasants ignorant. In more Slave State news. the People’s Republik of Kalifornia has wiped its collective rear ends with both the 4th and 14th Amendments to the United States Constitution. Certain people in the People’s Republik will soon be given the opportunity to “surrender their property” to state officials. These are some the laws that will likely have the most profound effect: SB 172: High school seniors will receive their diploma whether or not they pass or even take an exit exam; the law also applies retroactively to students who have graduated since 2004; SB 178: Will force law enforcement to obtain search warrants in order to examine citizens’ emails, text messages, Internet search history and other digital data; SB 199: Airsoft guns will be required to show aspects marking them as toys, such as fluorescent trigger guards; SB 277: Will require most children to obtain full vaccination by July so they can attend school in September; SB 549: Allows in-game charity raffles allowing winners to keep 50 percent of ticket sales, rather than the current 10% and the rest going to charity; SB 588: Permits the California Labor Commissioner to place a lien on an employer’s property to try and recoup the value of wages left unpaid; SB 707: Bans concealed firearms from college campuses and K-12 school grounds; AB 202: Cheerleaders for professional sports teams will be regarded as employees; AB 329: Makes participation in sex education courses mandatory for students unless parents opt-out, would also inculcate the teaching of a fluid gender identity; AB 359: Forces stores to keep employees for at least 90 days so they cannot be fired as a result of buyouts or mergers; AB 775: Forces crisis pregnancy centers” to post a sign alerting clients of the existence nearby of public family planning programs, including abortions; AB 1014: Will permit family members to obtain a restraining order to keep relatives who might commit gun violence from owning a gun; AB 1100: Will raise the fee for a statewide proposition from $200 to $2,000; AB 1422: Forces Uber, Lyft, and similar entities to give the California Department of Motor Vehicles access to driver records. From www.breitbart.com: "Beginning January 1, police in California may confiscate firearms from gun owners thought to be a danger to themselves or others without giving the owner any notice. This is the result of the implementation of “gun violence restraining orders” (GVROs), which go into effect New Year’s Day. According to KPCC, GVROs “could be issued without prior knowledge of the person. In other words, a judge could issue the order without ever hearing from the person in question, if there are reasonable grounds to believe the person is a threat based on accounts from the family and police.” And since the order can be issued without the gun owner even being present to defend...

 SOTG 304 – S&W Controversy: Shooting Industry vs Gun Culture | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:02

Smith & Wesson has found itself once again in a needless controversy. A rash decision, prompted by S&W attorneys, has put them on the defense against a gun culture backlash. Paul discusses in detail the disconnect between the Shooting Industry and the Gun Culture. During our SWAT Fuel Fitness segment, Jarrad will quite naturally address resolutions and goals. Is it enough to simply set New Year’s resolutions? Is there a better way to achieve your goals? SOURCES:  Visit the Silencer Shop Website: www.SilencerShop.com From www.recoilweb.com: "Late last week the special Smith & Wesson M&P build for the Brownells Dream Guns Project was announced. Today the parties involved, to include Apex Tactical, Brownells, DP Custom Works, Blowndeadline Custom, and SSvi all received a Cease & Desist letter from a law firm representing Smith and Wesson. In part that letter included this: It has recently come to Smith & Wesson’s attention that you have developed and are promoting for sale an “M&P Dream Gun,” (the “Infringing Product”). To create this product, you have modified an authentic Smith & Wesson M&P® 9mm pistol by, inter alia, changing the grip texture and shape, machining the slide, and adding numerous accessories and replacement parts, while retaining the S&W® Logo on the product. The December 18, 2015 Apex press release announcing this product and explaining Apex’s intent to exhibit the Infringing Product at the January 2016 SHOT Show exhibition is attached to this correspondence as Exhibit B. The numerous alterations made to the original design of Smith & Wesson’s firearms constitute not only unauthorized modifications to Smith & Wesson’s proprietary designs and misuse of Smith & Wesson’s trademarks, but present significant safety and quality concerns. Indeed, these modifications void the Smith & Wesson factory warranty on these products. Your advertisement and display of the Infringing Product to promote your gunsmithing services, and other products and services, constitutes misuse of Smith & Wesson’s trademarks and must cease. The demands are listed thusly: These intellectual property and safety and quality concerns are extremely serious and demand your immediate attention. Accordingly, we demand that you: 1. Confirm in writing that neither you nor any third party will display the Infringing Product, or any similar product, at the 2016 SHOT Show or make any other commercial display or promotion of such Infringing Product; 2. Cease the sale of any firearm modified by you or any other third party that bears any Smith & Wesson trademark, including, but not limited to the S&W® Marks or the M&P® Marks; and 3. Turn over to Smith & Wesson your inventory of the Infringing Product, or any Smith & Wesson product modified by you in the first instance that bears any mark owned by Smith & Wesson. If we do not hear from you by January 5, 2015, Smith & Wesson will pursue its rights and remedies to the fullest extent permitted by law without further notice to you." From www.recoilweb.com: "Yesterday we told you about a cease and desist letter sent by Smith & Wesson to certain custom gunsmiths involved in the so-called “Dream Gun” project. It did not go over well. It did not go over well at all. At about 08h30 CST today Smith & Wesson Corporation’s President James Debney, a member of the NRA’s Golden Ring of Freedom since 2013, released the following statement. “I would like to clarify that we fully support the Brownells Dream Guns® Project and we appreciate that it showcases the many ways in which our customers – loyal fans of our M&P brand – can choose to customize their M&P firearms. Our decision to contact the companies that worked on the project was intended to pr...

 SOTG 302 – Infamous Anti-Gun Sheriff Shoots Himself | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:32

We do not know whether or not to label this under irony, karma, fate or even kismet, but a notoriously anti-gun/pro-disarmament sheriff in Iowa negligently launched a bullet into himself. Before you assume that you know what Professor Paul is going to say, take a deep breath and listen louder. During our SWAT Fuel Warrior of the Week segment a listener has a question regarding just how many rounds a person should expect to fire through their self-defense handgun without a stoppage. A valid question indeed. SOURCES:  Visit the Silencer Shop Website: www.SilencerShop.com From buzzpo.com: "A fairly well-known anti-gun sheriff seems to have shot himself in the hand on Wednesday night while cleaning his firearm. Des Moines County Sheriff Mike Johnstone negligently discharged a round into his left hand, and was subsequently transported to the hospitals emergency room. His injury has been described by medical personnel as non-life threatening, but a hand surgeon was called in to assist. According to the Iowa Firearms Coalition, Johnstone has advocated for more and more gun-free zones. But perhaps Johnstone is most well-known for his statement from 5 years ago. When Iowa’s concealed carry law went from “may issue” to “shall issue,” Johnstone campaigned diligently against the change. He predicted ‘Wild West shootouts,’ and called it “A RECIPE FOR DISASTER.” Well, here we are five years later, and Johnstone’s ‘Wild West shootouts’ never happened. However, there may be some truth to the lawman’s statement. If all gun owners were irresponsible enough to negligently shoot themselves, it might have been “A RECIPE FOR DISASTER.” Fortunately, that doesn’t happen because most gun owners are trained and responsible. I’d like to recommend the sheriff take one of those gun safety classes that Iowa concealed carriers have to take. He might learn something. In the meantime, I’m leaving a few pointers below for the Sheriff to read during his recovery."  SOTG 301 – Your Christmas Gift to America | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:46

For Christmas of 2015, the United States of America needs a gift from you, the citizens of the nation. To paraphrase John Kennedy; Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. We have a “Go Team” Moment for you from the Republic of Texas. A couple of felons committed a “critical error in the victim selection process” and were paid back in lead. Be armed, people. SOURCES:  Visit the Silencer Shop Website: www.SilencerShop.com From concealednation.org: "Three robbery suspects, two of which were believed armed, suffered a terrible surprise when they attempted to ambush two men and two women exiting a bar at 2 am. According to statements released by the victims and Houston Police through KHOU, two armed robbers approached the group as they were getting into their car. The first one told the driver to give him his money. But the driver held up his photo ID and credit card because he reportedly “doesn’t carry cash”. The first armed robber slapped his belongings out of his hand. That’s when the victim’s brother got out of the car and judiciously placed two well placed shots into the man’s chest. He then immediately transitioned to the second armed robber and reportedly “emptied his 12-round clip (sic)”. “Emptied the rest of the clip, we have a 12-round clip, so emptied the rest of the clip into the guy,” the brother said to KHOU. “Well it turns out the cop said that he turned up at the hospital, he got hit like seven times.” That second robber managed to flee the scene after allegedly stealing a gun out of one of the women’s purses. He showed up to the hospital with seven bullet wounds. The first suspect went down and was placed into critical condition. “As soon as he shot him [the first armed robber], I ran over there and kicked him in his face twice because I don’t know if he was dead or not,” said the victim. “Kicked him twice in his face, tried to clear his gun, but it turned out to be a fake. It wasn’t even real.” The investigator from Houston’s police department backed up the man’s assertations. “It was found to be an Airsoft gun,” said Jeremy Spurlock, an investigator with the Houston Police Department. “There was no orange tip or anything. If you’d have seen it, you would have believed it was a real gun.” When asked about the encounter, both brothers appear to be completely unphased by the situation. They credit their background in the military as part of their mindset in getting through the situation as well as they did. “It wasn’t scary,” said the victim. “We’re prior service military, so this was just like a regular reaction to us.” Well, good enough. The Harris County prosecutor will give the final word on whether any charges are pending but the Houston police don’t seem to think anything was too out of place. What’s more amazing is that both attempted-robbers survived. One was shot SEVEN times and still managed to escape?! The first one got shot twice in the chest and survived in surgery. Is this a weird new thing where medical science can save anyone? I don’t know whether to be impressed or disappointed. At least the concealed carriers neutralized the threat — that’s what matters."  SOTG 299 – Fight Back America | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:40

The Professor is back off of the road and has more stories to tell. This time he toured western Tennessee and visited with many of our friends. Also, Paul will share his experience regarding a gas leak at Taco Bell. Seriously. Two Florida men earned themselves the “Go Team” award when they fought back against a man attempting to rob a convenience store. Despite the mountain of evidence that obedient surrender is not a guarantee of safety, we are treated to yet another law enforcement professional giving us the same regurgitated advice about dealing with criminal attack. Listen Louder. SOURCES:  Visit the Silencer Shop Website: www.SilencerShop.com From fox8.com: "Two customers at a Florida convenience store took matters into their own hands when they fought back against an alleged armed robber. According to ABC News, Two men were at a Coral Gables convenience store about 4:30 a.m. when the robber demanded their money. Jovon Reddick, 32, was arrested by police and officials say he had a loaded gun on him at the time of his arrest. Police say Reddick allegedly told the men, “Get on the ground empty your pockets or I’ll shoot you.” The video shows the two men walking up to Reddick and hitting him with a bottle. After police arrived, Reddick claimed he was “just joking” and had kept the gun in his pocket. Reddick is still in in jail on charges of armed robbery and possessing a weapon while committing an offense."  SOTG 297 – Cowardly Veterans Support Gun Control: Open Letter Follow-Up | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:12

Does putting on the a uniform give you a pass for traitorous behavior? Can you support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and at the same time call for citizen disarmament? During this episode we have to examples of military veterans who seem to have lost their way. In one circumstance, we have exposed a self-described veteran who has deliberately spoken out against people of the USA and in favor of the ruling class state. SOURCES:  Visit the Silencer Shop Website: www.SilencerShop.com From www.npr.org: NPR's Kelly McEvers talks with Patrick Baccari, who shared a cubicle with Syed Rizwan Farook, the suspect in the shooting in San Bernardino shooting, and was in the bathroom when the violence began. KELLY MCEVERS, HOST: Patrick Baccari is a health inspector for San Bernardino County, a coworker of Syed Farook and a survivor of yesterday's attack. When I talked to him this morning, I could see small scabs down his arms and on his face. He has tiny fragments of debris embedded below his skin - the results of bullets hitting the drywall where he was standing. He says he and other coworkers were gathered for what he describes as a general education meeting and a Christmas party. PATRICK BACCARI: They gave us a 20-minute break. They asked for those of these certain programs to take a moment and go get your Christmas picture taken. When we went over for that, Syed wasn't there for that. A little while later, somebody said, well, where's Syed? Well, OK, he wasn't here. And then you kind of think, OK, where is he? So we go into the next session. It's around 11 o'clock. They let us go on a break. I basically get to the restroom. As I'm pulling the paper towels from the dispenser, there's explosions. There's bullets flying through the walls. I look at myself in the mirror and see the blood. I thought somebody booby trapped the towel dispenser. MCEVERS: And so there were - the shooting was coming from outside the bathroom but having so much impact that things were... BACCARI: Well, you're only talking a small hallway. MCEVERS: Yeah. BACCARI: And you're talking thin drywall. So here I am at the paper towel dispenser pulling the things down. Like, powder puff goes off in your face. There's a big explosion. You don't necessarily know what - they're looking at me like, what did you do? I look in the mirror and see myself bloodied. As I think I'm going to exit, I see the bullet holes, and I tell everybody, get on the floor; there's bullets coming. And so we remained there, and we had no cell service. And so when the shooting finally calmed down, I couldn't get any cell service from the restroom, so I had the guy beside me call. And he got through, and he told them we're in the restroom. And we basically had the restroom door blocked so nobody could enter. And there was three of us in the restroom. So after they had the SWAT come, they said they're there. I'm like, OK, we're either going to live or die. We opened the door. It is them, so we exited the restroom. They channeled us across the way. The majority of people that were sitting with me were gunned down. We were toward the center of the complex in the back where Syed was. MCEVERS: So it's because you went to the bathroom, basically? BACCARI: That may have saved me and the other two - the four of us in the restroom. I'm a retired medic, so one of my colleagues - she'd been shot three times, so I tried to run to her aid. It broke my heart to see her on the TV, that she's walking with her arm in the sling that we made out of her sweater. MCEVERS: You say you're a retired medic. You were in the - you served in the military. BACCARI: The Air Force reserves. MCEVERS: OK,

 SOTG 296 – FBI Director Doesn’t Know How to Buy a Gun | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:25

As insane as it might sound, the currently Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the agency that oversees the National Instant Background Check System, is not sure what happens if a person wants to buy a firearm online. The FBI oversees the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) – the system that is in place to keep undesirables from buying a new gun. During a December 9, 2015, Senate Judiciary Committee meeting Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina asked, “If I buy a gun on the internet is it delivered to my home?” Comey responded, “I assume it is shipped to you but I don’t know for sure actually.” The primary purpose of the meeting was to discuss the terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California. The Director clearly is unaware that if you buy a firearm online it is shipped to someone holding a Federal Firearms License (FFL). Then the FFL holder is required to have the purchaser fill out an Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) form 4473, contact the FBI and get the purchase authorized through the NICS process his organization administers."  SOTG 295 – Islam has had 36 Years to Police its Ranks | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:34

The Professor takes us to school and we examine the recent history of “radical Islam”. For those of you who went to public school in the last 20 years, we will go back to the year 1979 and the national embarrassment that was Jimmy Carter and the Iranian Hostage Crisis. For 36 years, of late, the Islamic World has been aware of the “radical” or “jihadist” element in its midst. Our question to the Muslim street is very simple, why should the world believe that moderate Muslims are at all concerned with the “radicals” and why should we believe that the moderates are not enabling their radical brothers and sisters? SOURCES:  VIDEO(S): www.thegatewaypundit.com From www.history.com: "On November 4, 1979, a group of Iranian students stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking more than 60 American hostages. The immediate cause of this action was President Jimmy Carter’s decision to allow Iran’s deposed Shah, a pro-Western autocrat who had been expelled from his country some months before, to come to the United States for cancer treatment. However, the hostage-taking was about more than the Shah’s medical care: it was a dramatic way for the student revolutionaries to declare a break with Iran’s past and an end to American interference in its affairs. It was also a way to raise the intra- and international profile of the revolution’s leader, the anti-American cleric Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The students set their hostages free on January 21, 1981, 444 days after the crisis began and just hours after President Ronald Reagan delivered his inaugural address. Many historians believe that hostage crisis cost Jimmy Carter a second term as president. THE IRAN HOSTAGE CRISIS: THE SHAH AND THE C.I.A. The Iran hostage crisis had its origins in a series of events that took place nearly a half-century before it began. The source of tension between Iran and the U.S. stemmed from an increasingly intense conflict over oil. British and American corporations had controlled the bulk of Iran’s petroleum reserves almost since their discovery–a profitable arrangement that they had no desire to change. However, in 1951 Iran’s newly elected prime minister, a European-educated nationalist named Muhammad Mossadegh, announced a plan to nationalize the country’s oil industry. In response to these policies, the American C.I.A. and the British intelligence service devised a secret plan to overthrow Mossadegh and replace him with a leader who would be more receptive to Western interests. Did You Know? The television series Nightline began as a nightly news report on the hostage crisis (its original title was The Iran Crisis--America Held Hostage). ABC News president Roone Arledge hoped that it would draw viewers away from the NBC juggernaut The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Through this coup, code-named Operation TP-Ajax, Mossadegh was deposed and a new government was installed in August 1953. The new leader was a member of Iran’s royal family named Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi. The Shah’s government was secular, anti-communist and pro-Western. In exchange for tens of millions of dollars in foreign aid, he returned 80 percent of Iran’s oil reserves to the Americans and the British. For the C.I.A. and oil interests, the 1953 coup was a success. In fact, it served as a model for other covert operations during the Cold War, such as the 1954 government takeover in Guatemala and the failed intervention in Cuba in 1961. However, many Iranians bitterly resented what they saw as American intervention in their affairs. The Shah turned out to be a brutal, arbitrary dictator whose secret police (known as the SAVAK) tortured and murdered thousands of people. Meanwhile,

SOTG 294 – How Many will Die for Gun Control? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:17

During this episode we pose a sobering and extremely serious question; how many American citizens are the progressive left willing to kill in order to achieve their dream of total firearms confiscation? During our SWAT Fuel Warrior of the Week segment, one student wants advice on how to avoid succumbing to friendly fire in the wake of an active shooters situation. This is very likely a question that is on the minds of most armed citizens. SOURCES:  Read the Story: www.wsj.com From newrepublic.com: "Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police. Not just because of San Bernardino, or whichever mass shooting may pop up next, but also not not because of those. Don’t sort the population into those who might do something evil or foolish or self-destructive with a gun and those who surely will not. As if this could be known—as if it could be assessed without massively violating civil liberties and stigmatizing the mentally ill. Ban guns! Not just gun violence. Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns. All of them. I used to refer to my position on this issue as being in favor of gun control. Which is true, except that “gun control” at its most radical still tends to refer to bans on certain weapons and closing loopholes. The recent New York Times front-page editorial, as much as it infuriated some, was still too tentative. “Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership,” the paper argued, making the case for “reasonable regulation,” nothing more. Even the rare ban-guns arguments involve prefacing and hedging and disclaimers. “We shouldn’t ‘take them away’ from people who currently own them, necessarily,” writes Hollis Phelps in Salon. Oh, but we should. I say this not to win some sort of ideological purity contest, but because banning guns urgently needs to become a rhetorical and conceptual possibility. The national conversation needs to shift from one extreme—an acceptance, ranging from complacent to enthusiastic, of an individual right to own guns—to another, which requires people who are not politicians to speak their minds. And this will only happen if the Americans who are quietly convinced that guns are terrible speak out. Their wariness, as far as I can tell, comes from two issues: a readiness to accept the Second Amendment as a refutation, and a reluctance to impose “elite” culture on parts of the country where guns are popular. (There are other reasons as well, not least a fear of getting shot.) And there’s the extent to which it’s just so ingrained that banning guns is impossible, legislatively and pragmatically, which dramatically weakens the anti-gun position. The first issue shouldn’t be so complicated. It doesn’t take specialized expertise in constitutional law to understand that current U.S. gun law gets its parameters from Supreme Court interpretations of the Second Amendment. But it’s right there in the First Amendment that we don’t have to simply nod along with what follows. That the Second Amendment has been liberally interpreted doesn’t prevent any of us from saying it’s been misinterpreted, or that it should be repealed. When you find yourself assuming that everyone who has a more nuanced (or just pro-gun) argument is simply better read on the topic, remember that opponents of abortion aren’t wondering whether they should have a more nuanced view of abortion because of Roe v. Wade. They’re not keeping their opinions to themselves until they’ve got a term paper’s worth of material proving that they’ve studied the relevant case law. Then there is the privilege argument.
