Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! This week, Jim and I talk to James Martin, developer of Shallow Space! Shallow Space is a real-time strategy game wherein you command fleets across large scale battles, striving for territorial control. The game is now in alphafunding, and looks like it’s really going to be terrific, as it’s beautiful, plays well and has quite a lot of detail even at this early stage of development. We talk to James about the game, crowdfunding, alphafunding, the trials of being an indie developer and much more. It was a really fun show, so I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Next week will be something of a free for all show, talking about what we’ve been playing of late, so we hope you join us for that. Thanks for listening or watching, and we’ll see you next week! :)

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! In this episode, Jim and I talk (sadly sans Hunter) to Vedran Klanac, the developer of the retro-yet-modern space shooter and trading game, Zotrix! We discuss not only the game, but gain quite a bit of insight into the business of being an indie developer, working through Steam Greenlight, how to best promote your game through Steam and much more. It’s a very fun and insightful podcast, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Next week we’ll be talking to the folks behind Dimension Drive, which is currently in Kickstarter, then we might be taking a break from guests for a while to focus on some topics and such. ;) If you have a suggestion for a guest or topic, please don’t hesitate to hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com.  SGJ Podcast #103 – Homeworld Remastered – Home(world) is Where the Heart Is… | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:12

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! In this episode, Jim and I (sans Hunter) talk to several folks from Gearbox Software — including Chief Creative Officer Brian Martel, Programmer Dave Eaton and Social Media Manager Jeff Skal — about their work on the recently released Remastered versions of Homeworld and Homeworld 2. We discuss how they went about getting the license, all the hard work that went into the remastering, the difficulties surrounding Cataclysm and much more! Next week we’ll be talking the space shooter Zotrix! If you have a suggestion for a topic or guest, please don’t forget to hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com! Thanks for watching/listening, and enjoy the show! PS. Just so the right person gets the blame, it’s me who got crushed by the AI. ;) I never said I was GOOD at this game. ;)

SGJ Podcast #102 – Voidborne – Voiding It Up One Match at a Time | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:34:39

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast (sorry it’s a bit late, some crap got in the way of it going up sooner)! In this episode, Jim, Hunter and I talk to developers Chris Sheldon-Dante and Andrew Richardson of Mob Made Games about their upcoming 4X space game, Voidborne! Voidborne is a 4X game played in small sessions, in which what happened in one session completely affects what happens in the next, creating a larger meta game of smaller, interconnected stories. This also allows for slightly easier multiplayer than in many other 4X games, as each session is smaller and more self-contained than other games of this type. Overall we had a great time talking about this game, and I can’t wait to see how it evolves. Thanks so much for watching/listening, and as always, if you have a suggestion for a guest/topic, please hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com! Don’t forget that tomorrow’s podcast is an early morning on, at 7 AM Pacific, we’ll be talking to a couple of blokes at Gearbox about Homeworld: Remastered! PS. This is the video that broke me in the later portion of the podcast.

 SGJ Podcast #101 – Rogue System – Getting Roguey With It… | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:27:39

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast!! In this episode, Jim, Hunter and bring back our first ever guest, Michael Juliano, to talk further about Rogue System! If you’re unaware, Rogue System is a fairly serious space flight sim that models clickable cockpits, a multitude of ships systems, and includes fighter and bomber missions in a dynamic campaign for control of your solar system. The game is fairly early right now, but a lot of the systems are in place, and it’s fascinating to go through this detailed sim. We had a great talk about the game’s systems, its gameplay plans and much more! As always, if you have a suggestion for a guest or topic, don’t hesitate to hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com. Thanks for listening/watching, and have a great week!

SGJ Podcast #100 – Looking Back, Moving Forward | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:05:47

Welcome to the 100th episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! This week, Jim and I get to know our new cohost Hunter a little better, and we talk about all manner of things, such as where the podcast has gone, where we’d like it to go, what we can do better and all sorts of other things. It was basically a show that encompassed much of what I love most about the podcast: A comfortable, fun, laid back conversation about games and other stuff we love. But mostly games, of course. ;) Next week we’re bringing back our first ever guest, Mike Juliano, to talk about how Rogue System is going, so stay tuned for that! In the meantime, if you have a question or suggestion for the show, don’t hesitate to hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com, and as always, thank you for listening.

 SGJ Podcast #99 – Space Warfare: Infinite – Infinite Funness | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:39:52

Hey folks, this week Jim, Hunter and I talk to Mike Dolan about his upcoming space combat sim, Space Warfare: Infinite! This game, even in its early stages, is a lot of fun, and is also very ambitious. It has planned dynamic campaigns, and open-universe mode similar to Elite or Privateer, and a custom mission editor to create your own battles. One can tell there’s a lot of love going into this game, so it’s definitely one to keep an eye out for. In the show, we also had a fun tangent about cheesy 80s sci-fi movies, which was hilarious. It overall was a great time, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Finally, we’re thrilled to add our buddy Hunter Mullins as our 3rd co-host going forward, yay! Please join me in welcoming Hunter, as his wit, humor and passion will definitely add a lot to this podcast. :) Enjoy the show, folks, and we’ll see you next week for the 100th episode! YAY!

SGJ Podcast #98 – TIE Fighter – The Best Game, or THE BEST GAME? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:41:10

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! This week, joining Jim and I is friend of the show and fellow TIE Fighter fanatic Hunter Mullins along with the host of the Upper Memory Block Podcast, Joe Mastroianni, to discuss the seminal space sim, Lucasarts and Totally Games’ 1994 smash TIE Fighter. We all freaking love TIE Fighter, warts and all, so we take a detailed look at what makes this game so great, and of course go off on some tangents. ;) It was a really fun time! As always, if you have questions or suggestions for a guest or topic, hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com. Thanks for listening, and we’ll catch you next week!

 SGJ Podcast #97 – X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and a Hodge Podge of Other Issues… | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:21:42

Hey folks, welcome to this week’s Space Game Junkie Podcast. This week, Jim and I bring on regular X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter wingman Hunter Mullins to talk about how wrong we were about this amazing game, plus a bunch of other topics. Unfortunately, partway through the recording, my Internet connection went all kerflibble, so we have an odd break in there. Thankfully things got sorted out, and we were able to continue the conversation. With the magic of editing, Jim saved the podcast, but sadly we lost video, so this will be an audio only podcast. Thanks for listening folks, and stay tuned for next week’s show when we discuss TIE Fighter itself. YAY!

 SGJ Podcast #96 – Transcendence – Transcending the Roguelike | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:51:21

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! Sorry for the lateness of this one folks, it has been a HELL of a week. In this episode, Jim and I talk to Transcendence developer George Moromisato about his spacey roguelike, the ups and downs of being an indie developer, the ins and outs of Steam Greenlight and much more! It’s a lengthy episode that covers a great variety of topics, and it speaks well to both our guest and his game that I had NO IDEA nearly two hours had passed since the start of the show before I realized it. That should tell you how much fun we had right there. ;) As always, if you have a suggestion or critique, you can hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com. Thanks for listening folks! Note to video watchers: Due to my copyright strike, I now have to break videos up into 15 minute chunks. Ugh. So below is the playlist on YouTube, but if you wanna see the whole thing uncut, head over to Twitch. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

 SJG Podcast #95 – A Cataclysmic Home(world) Coming | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:53:20

Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! This week, Jim and I talk to former Barking Dog employees Martin Cirulis and Chris Stewart about their work on Homeworld: Catacylsm, and along with friend of the show Paul Tobia, we also throw in some Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon in there as well. ;) It was a very enlightening chat, and a lot of fun, as we learned quite about on how Cataclysm came to be, what happened during it’s development and marketing and a lot more. As always, we hope you enjoy the show, and invite you to hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com if you have a suggestion for a topic or guest, and check out our Patreon campaign if you like the show. ;) Thanks for listening/watching!

SGJ Podcast #94 – Working Together in Quintet | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:37:41

Hello my friends, and welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast. This week, I sit down with creator of the multi-person starship bridge simulator Quintet, Carmine Guida, along with his team member Eric Payawal and we discuss the history and background of their game, how it works, and we also take some multiplayer ships out for a spin! Note that since Jim was unavailable for much of the podcast, I recorded the audio version this time, so I hope it turned out okay for y’all (this is why you can hear the game going as well). We had a really fun time talking about the game and playing it as well, and it made for a really fun podcast. As always, we hope you have a fun time listening/watching the show, and don’t forget that you can hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com if you have a suggestion for a topic or a guest. :) Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for next week when we’ll be talking about Homeworld: Cataclysm! :)

SGJ Podcast #93 – Smart Talk with Derek Smart | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:17:45

Hello my friends, and welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! This week, Jim and I sit down with famed space sim designer Derek Smart to talk about the upcoming free release on Steam of his Universal Combat Collector’s Edition 2.0 (or possibly out by the time you read this Edit: It’s out!!!)! We spent a lot of time talking about the history of the Battlecruiser series and also play quite a bit of Universal Combat Collector’s Edition 2.0 as well. Later in the year 3000AD will also be released Universal Combat Advanced, with an even further updated engine. We talk about all this and dish out hot firey laser death as we do so. While I did spend a lot of time playing the game, I also tried to help conduct an interview as well. ;) This hopefully makes it as fun to listen to as it was to record. :) As always, we hope you enjoy the show, and hope you’ll pick up and enjoy the game once it’s available on Steam. Finally, don’t forget that if you have a guest or topic you’d like us to cover, hit us up at hail@spacegamejunkie.com. Thanks for listening!
