Well, it's October, and so in this slightly expanded GeekScholars Movie News podcast, the crew looks at the upcoming month's highlights by telling you which movies they are most (and least) excited for, as well as their predictions on how each film will score on the Rotten Tomatoes freshness scale! Before that, however, this week's sho​w begins with a bunch of interesting news to discuss, including a potential ​Fargo​ television show, Tom Hardy in a biopic about George Mallory attempting to climb Mount Everest, Gina Carano starring in an all-females ​Expendables​-type movie, updates on ​Spy Hunter​, ​The Mummy ​reboot, and ​Dawn of the Planet Apes​, and finally the crew's thoughts on Seth MacFarlane being named the host of the 85th Annual Academy Awards. The show then concludes with GeekScholars Fox, Jill, and Chris offering their analyses and grades on their F- to A+ scale for​ Looper​, ​the highly anticipated time-travel action movie starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis.

Welcome fans to this week's episode of the GeekScholars Movie News podcast! The show kicks off with a trio of headlines including news about ​a new ​Looney Tunes​ movie, a director taking on the ​Baywatch​​ adaptation, plus the possibility that has LEGO inadvertently spoiled a second villain's appearance in next the Superman movie, ​Man of Steel. From there, the GeekScholars analyze and grade the trailers for the Jackie Robinson biopic, ​42​, starring Harrison Ford as Brooklyn Dodgers' owner, Branch Rickey, as well as ​Promised Land​, a nearly-ripped-from-the-headlines tale about the boom of natural gas excavation and its potential effect on a small farming town, starring Matt Damon. To start, the GeekScholars discuss, and speculate about, the headlines for the week which include the news that Al Pacino will play famed Penn State football coach Joe Paterno in a biopic, Daniel Craig's future with the James Bond franchise, ​Star Trek 2​'s newly revealed title, thoughts on the announced ​Safe House ​prequel/ sequel, and the addition of Jim Carrey to ​Kick-Ass 2. The GeekScholars then muse over the possibility that the Wachowskis might end up directing ​Justice League​, Michael Douglas' ability to play Ronald Reagan in Reykjavik, and whether or not casting Michael Keaton as the villain can save ​the ​Robocop​ reboot from all the negative attention it's been receiving. GeekScholars Movie News headlines conclude this week with the rumors that Sony may be planning a movie based upon the video game console wars (but which ones?), and Jon Turteltaub's possible feature film, ​Beached​, about a boy raised by whales who becomes an Olympic swimmer.
