Learn Norwegian with NorwegianClass101! Don't forget to stop by NorwegianClass101.com for more great Norwegian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Hadeland Glassverk Hadeland Glassverk is a popular tourist destination located about an hour's drive north of Oslo, Norway. It sits on Lake Randsfjorden's southernmost tip. The glass works dates all the way back to 1762, when it was built on land that was part of the Mo estate. Production at the glass works didn't start until three years later because the Norwegian people at that time were not yet skilled in working glass. They brought in some skilled glass workers from other nations in Europe, mostly Germany. In the early days of the glass works, production included basic objects like bottles and other household items that were usually made from glass. Gradually, other items were added and products were refined so that the glass works could offer finer products like wine glasses, vases, and other pieces made from crystal. In the 1800s, workers there could duplicate the designs of other countries, and by the 1920s, they began to develop their own glass designs. Today Hadeland Glassverk is home to some of the world's most talented glass designers, who continue to hone their skills and experiment with glass inside the glass factory. In addition to watching the glass workers create their unique wares, tourists may also wish to try the cuisine at one of the two restaurants located there or see the Glass Museum, which houses a number of pieces showing what the glass workers at Hadeland have been able to create during the centuries of its existence. The factory also offers children's activities, and the charming little village around the glass works offers unique shopping opportunities. --------------------------- Learn Norwegian with NorwegianClass101! Don't forget to stop by NorwegianClass101.com for more great Norwegian Language Learning Resources! Martin: Takk for meg. Har dere noen spørsmål? ----Formal English---- Martin: Today I am going to talk about global warming, a controversial subject that concerns us all. First, I am going to explain in simple terms what global warming is, then talk about some big consequences, and last, give some examples on how one can solve this global problem. Martin: Global warming is a man-made temperature raise. We emit excessive amounts of CO2, and this settles in the ozone layer. Martin: Not only does it get warmer, but also the poles in the Antarctic and Arctic melt. Therefore, we get increased water levels, which can lead to serious consequences for land areas that are on the same level as the ocean. Martin: So what can one do to solve this problem? Martin: One has to find energy sources other than fossil fuels, which are causing CO2 emissions. One can use public transport instead of one’s own car. One can also use other ways to extract energy. Martin: Such as solar, hydropower, biodiesel, and wind power. Martin: Thank you. Do you have any questions? --------------------------- Learn Norwegian with NorwegianClass101! ----Formal English---- Anne: Have you seen the TV series The Half Brother? Anne: It's about two half-brothers, and we follow them through their childhood. Martin: That sounds pretty boring. Anne: No, it's really interesting. The eldest half brother doesn't know who his father is, and he's a troubled boy. Since he escapes from home, his little brother doesn't see him in many years. Martin: Aha... Anne: Yes, so before the big brother escapes from home, he tries to get his little brother to stand up for himself a little bit more, and since he has dyslexia, his little brother often reads for him. The big brother gives him a typewriter as a gift, and the little brother starts to write screenplays. At the end of the movie... Martin: No, don't say anymore. Then you’ll spoil it!
