 Advanced Audio Blog S2 #18 - Top 10 Norwegian Writers: Jo Nesbø | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:25

Learn Norwegian with NorwegianClass101! Don't forget to stop by NorwegianClass101.com for more great Norwegian Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Jo Nesbø Jo Nesbø is a Norwegian writer whose work has now been translated into more than forty different languages. He has been nominated for an Edgar Award and is mostly known for his novels featuring the character of Detective Harry Hole. His series of children's books about Doctor Proctor has also become excessively popular. In addition, he is the lead singer for Di Derre, a rock band in Norway. Nesbø was born in Oslo and earned his Economics and Business degree from the Norwegian School of Economics. Before he became a full-time writer, he worked as a stockbroker and did some freelance journalism on the side. He started out with a promising future as a soccer player, but after he broke the ligaments in one knee, he was unable to play professionally. During his younger years, Nesbø was so focused on playing soccer professionally that his grades suffered. By the time he had graduated from high school, he realized that his grades were so poor that he couldn't do very much. He decided then to join the military and work on bringing his grades up, eventually becoming eligible for the Norwegian School of Economics. Nesbø has received numerous awards for his literary work, including the Riverton Prize, the Glass Key Award, and the Norwegian Booksellers' Prize for Best Novel of the Year. So far his credits include nine novels in the Harry Hole series, three Doctor Proctor books, and four stand-alone novels. --------------------------- Learn Norwegian with NorwegianClass101! Anne: Virkelig? Da har han vært her noen tiår, ikkesant? Martin: Ja. ----Formal English---- Anne: Did you know that Norway was considered as a relatively homogeneous society until the 1970s? Martin: No, I didn't know. It's hard to imagine. Anne: Yes, but even though immigration took off in the 70's, it was still common to recruit professionals from abroad all the way back to the Middle Ages. Martin: What about the labor migration? Anne: Yes, we divide immigration into three categories: recruitment of professionals, labor immigration, and refugees. Martin: So, since we recruited professionals from the Middle Ages onward, when did the labor migration start? Anne: It started in the 1800s and lasted until the 70s. Martin: Oh, like my dad then. He came to Norway in the 60s to work. Anne: Really? Then he has been here a couple of decades, right? Martin: Yes. How do you know all this by the way? Anne: I read it around on the Internet of course. --------------------------- Learn Norwegian with NorwegianClass101!
