Seattle Mountain Rescue is the Search and Rescue unit that gets called in King County, WA.

Liz Donovan hiked the Pacific Crest Trail last year and I met her while doing trail work with the Pacific Crest Trail Association. She talks about the trail life! We talk about being a woman on the trail by herself all the way from Mexico to Canada. We discuss trail names, food on the trail and hitchhiking. We also talk about her future hiking goals!

The first recording is Liz Donavon who will be interviewed in episode 16 about her solo hike of the entire Pacific Crest Trail last summer. The next few recordings were recorded at a PCTA Trail Skills College event in Darrington Washington on April 30th, 2016. The first two gentleman are Lewis Trout who is the Pacific Northwest Trail's Director of Trail Maintenance and Bill Hawley the PCTA's North Cascade Regional Representative. The next two were Alexandria Elsebeth, who hiked a large portion of the PCT in California last year and Eric Lee, a section hiker and trail maintenance lead with the North 350 Blades. Jim Miller started hiking in the 1950's and still gets out often. We start out talking about his role in naming the North 350 Blades, the Pacific Crest Trail Association trail crew chapter that covers the Pacific Crest Trail's northern most 350 miles. Amongst his great stories, he tells about he and his wife helping the Forest Service count and track Marmots in the Olympics. Also, he talks a bit about his nickname, Bigfoot Jim! Nik Jensen is an active climber in Washington State. His overcoming addiction has led him toward heavy involvement with One Step at a Time (OSAT). The way he talks about climbing is very inspiring and it sounds like he is definitely an inspiration to others. Barefoot Jake has been running a blog out of the Olympic Mountains on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. You can find great write-ups about his hikes and reviews. There is also information on his sandal footwear that he uses along with plenty of gear reviews. Jake is also a photographer, so we talk a bit about that. Some of his stories are the story of him being rescued and reviews on wood burning hiking stoves.

Beers at the Bottom have written articles for many publications. They found a niche subject in the hiking community that has not been covered; matching hikes with local breweries! Rachel and Brandon met in Bellingham and have sampled beer across the state, though some of their favorite beer may still be in the Whatcom County area. Andy Porter is a backpacking photographer that loves North Cascade National Park. He holds classes and ultimately, wants to show other how fun it can be to try and capture the backcountry on camera. We talk about how different hiking is when you are trying to get sunset or sunrise photos. Some of his more recent photos to capture are shots that include the Milky Way. Ratatouille came on the podcast after listening to a few of my episodes! He started a podcast last year called Trailside Radio. He interviewed people before, during, and after his attempt to thru hike the Pacific Crest Trail. I think his best episode was an interview with Anish after her record setting Appalachian Trail hike. Fires, injuries and too much time spent having fun recording his show left him with over half of the miles covered. He will be hiking again this year and hopefully reprising his interview roll. Lee is the creator of Washington Hikers and Climbers, a Facebook Group with over 21,000 members. He describes how and why he started the group and shows off his love for all of the members.
