ADU 0102: How do I know if I'm flying in an area restricted by a TFR? What things are always off limits? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 647

Today we're addressing a topic we keep seeing come up, and we often get asked questions about specific areas to fly (or not). You may have recently seen, for example, that a guy was arrested for flying his drone over the Philadelphia Phillies baseball game while people were in the stadium. Although it could be argued (easily) that he's just plain stupid, you personally had better know the regulations surrounding safe flight. Therefore, we're going to discuss various things in this area of discussion. We clearly layout the laws you need to follow to stay out of the cross-hairs of the FAA, as well as resources you have at your fingertips to make sure you're not flying in an area covered by a TFR. This is a good refresher for some of you, and maybe it will be "news to you" for the rest. Regardless, stay tuned and fly safe. Thanks for joining us! Did you know how easy it is to get your questions answered on our show? Just go to http://AskDroneU.com and you can quickly submit your question(s) for us to go through. It seriously is that simple, so go check it out now. No, seriously, you should go right now... And while you're at it, can we ask you a huge favor?  ADU 0101: Do you still believe I don't have to get a 333 Exemption? Why or why not? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1053

Today we continue what has somewhat turned into a short series on the FAA, this due to getting our hands on a recent recording taken at a meeting with the FAA and the National Association of Realtors. In this section of the recording, we're focused on Douglas Trudeau, a Realtor who has successfully applied for and been granted a 333 exemption, talking about how he is actually more limited than others now due to the fact he has his exemption. This is actually another side of the coin that not many people think about. In some respects, by obtaining your 333 you are often (if not always) subjecting yourself to more regulations. So the burning question is do you need a 333 or not? Our quick answer is, "No." However, we want to be a support and resource for you no matter what direction you decide to go. We will always make sure you've considered every side of the coin here (like we said above), but we'll be here for you no matter what. Thanks for joining us! You need to go ask us your questions! No need to sit around wondering about things when we've made it really simple for you. Just go to http://AskDroneU.com and record your question. It's easy and quick, so go get it done.  ADU 0100: What makes you so sure the FAA will not come after me if I fly my drone commercially? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1325

It's episode 100 of our show! We are so excited for this as we reach another milestone in the short life of Drone U. Today we saved a really exciting and impactful topic for you...the FAA. Yes, we're talking about the FAA and the regulations surrounding them. No specific question from anybody today because we have some very interesting audio of Jim Williams at a recent National Association of Realtors meeting. A source sent us a recording they made of Jim talking about the FAA and their regulations over drones, specifically making money with one. So we're going to play parts of it and discuss it in depth. We know this is a hot debate as to the legalities of making money with your drone right now. We firmly believe it's not only legal, but the FAA cannot do anything about it. You MUST follow safe flying practices and adhere to the regulations that are in place. But we believe at this time, and even more so after hearing this audio, that we and others getting paid to fly their drones are absolutely in the right. Listen and tell us what you think. We appreciate you joining us, and here's to another hundred episodes! You need to go ask us your questions! No need to sit around wondering about things when we've made it really simple for you. Just go to http://AskDroneU.com and record your question. It's easy and quick, so go get it done. Thank you so much for your support and continued listening! Can we ask you a huge favor?  ADU 0099: How do I get started in the drone business without being the "low price" option just because I'm new? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 883

Our question today is actually coming from a recent discussion in the Drone U community. We have a member who approached another pilot (not in our community) regarding the fact that he was way undercharging for his services. The problem with the "undercharger" and their low-price strategy is it devalues the expertise of drone pilots in general. We understand that those new in the industry may be hesitant to charge more than they feel they are "worth." They also want to use it as a way to grow their business faster. Both are legitimate concerns and thoughts. However, balance is key here, and the "undercharger" needs to beware of longer term affects. So how does one get started without having a negative impact on the industry as a whole? What's a better strategy than trying to become a virtual WWE wrestler known as, "The Undercharger?" We go into specifics on how Paul got started, and some practical strategies you can implement to balance charging less until you advance your piloting skills. Paul even goes into how he charges for his packages. So this is a great episode to really get valuable help to get started and/or refine your drone videography business. Did you know how easy it is to get your questions answered on our show? Just go to http://AskDroneU.com and you can quickly submit your question(s) for us to go through.  ADU 0097: What things should I be tracking in a flight logbook? Why does it even matter? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 992

Our question today comes from Drone U member, Jerry, in Atlanta. He, like all our members, has access to helpful tools like flight and maintenance logbooks. Therefore, Jerry is asking us if we would go through our flight logbook and describe exactly what goes where? He wants to make sure he's doing it correctly. This is especially important since this one thing will have a direct impact on lowering your insurance rates. So we're happy to do that for not only Jerry, but all you all out there. We even are feeling generous today and have a special offer for you on this podcast. So stay tuned. Thanks again Jerry for your trust and great questions! Speaking of that, did you know how easy it is to get your questions answered on our show? Just go to http://AskDroneU.com and you can quickly submit your question(s) for us to go through.  ADU 0096: What do you think of the DJI E310 Propulsion System? Will it make a difference in flight times? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 390

Our question today comes all the way from Greece (how cool is that). We don't want to even try and spell the name knowing full well we'll butcher it, so forgive us. He's asking what we think about the new DJI E310 propulsion system (the tuned propulsion system)? Do we think it will make a big difference in flight times for the 350 or 400 quad size? We love detailed, specific questions like this. Thanks so much for submitting your question, and especially for listening! And speaking of that, can we ask you all huge favor? Give us a 5 star rating on whatever platform you listen to our show. It'll only take you 30 seconds, and will greatly help us. Thank you!

ADU 0095: If I hit something when flying my drone in a home for a real estate video, what should I do? Have you ever done that? What happened? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 720

Our question today comes from Jerry in HOT-lanta, and he gets sort of the "trifecta" question in here. He is asking Paul about his personal experiences of flying inside homes. Jerry would like to know if Paul has ever hit something while flying and filming in a house? If you have, how did you deal with the Realtor and homeowner when it happened? There are a lot of obstacles and things that can be nicked or hit while flying in someone's home for a Realtor. Therefore, you really must get the piloting skills down before doing this, and practicing is key because actually hitting something when doing this can have so many negative implications. Paul airs his "dirty laundry" about this topic, so stay tuned. And, Jerry, thanks so much again for your question! Speaking of that, did you know how easy it is to get your questions answered on our show? Just go to http://AskDroneU.com and you can quickly submit your question(s) for us to go through. It seriously is that simple, so go check it out now. No, seriously, you should go right now... And while you're at it, can we ask you a huge favor?  ADU 0094: Is there a maximum number of flights we should stick to before changing out the blades? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 768

Our question today comes from Rich all the way in the UK. He mentions how we were recently talking about replacing damaged blades on your drone. This got him thinking, is there a maximum number of flights we should do before automatically replacing the blades? Great question, Rich, and this is certainly something that most pilots either ignore or neglect because they don't know better. In reality, this can actually directly affect your ability to either get insurance, or get a lower rate (hint: maintenance log). Lastly, we talk briefly how this all relates to how we can help you take your pilot and videography skills to the next level, even turning your passion into profit. And you should know that we are wrapping up our #100HourSale TODAY at 4 pm EST. If you want a discounted rate on our training and membership, including FREE in-person flight training as a great bonus, then you need to check out this link ASAP before this opportunity closes (again, at 4pm EST TODAY): https://thedroneu.clickfunnels.com/vid-4-biz.  ADU 0093: I'm getting feedback on my Black Pearl Monitor after replacing the antennas. What should I do to fix this problem? Did I attach them correctly? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 648

Our question today comes from Adam in beautiful San Diego. He's got a Phantom 2 with a Black Pearl Monitor and he's trying to get a really clean image on it. He's recently upgraded to the clover leaf, mushroom antennas. But ever since doing that he's getting more feedback than I used to be, so now he's picture is not good at all. As a result, he's wanting to make sure that the RX should go on the monitor, and the TX should go on the drone, correct? Adam couldn't find a definite answer online, so he shot a question over to us because we'll for sure give him one. We actually go into numerous things about antennas as well as addressing Adam's question. Thanks a bunch for thinking of us, Adam! We're here to help any time, so go submit your questions now! Speaking of that, did you know how easy it is to get your questions answered on our show? Just go to http://AskDroneU.com and you can quickly submit your question(s) for us to go through.  ADU 0092: Should I use an X8 or Y6 frame on a drone I'm building for industrial applications? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 879

Our question today comes from Drone U member, Kyle. He has a Pixhawk he'd like to install in a Trooper 950 X8 frame he'll use for inspection work and other industrial based uses. But he wants to know if he should stick with the X8 frame, or go with a Y6 instead? We love detailed, deep questions like this, and we deep dive into this topic. We've been building our own custom drone recently, so we'e got all kinds of tips and strategies for you on this. So stay tuned, and thanks for your question, Kyle (we love and appreciate you too)!  ADU 0091: Is it OK to take my custom built drone to a hobby shop so it can be certified by a third party for insurance? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 612

Our question today comes from one of our newest members, Jerry. He has a custom built drone and is asking if it would be OK for him to take it to his local hobby shop to get it certified by them for his insurance? You see, when you have a custom built drone, and you need to get it insured, the insurance company is going to want a professional "certification" that your drone is flight worthy. So this is actually a very important step in getting inured with a custom built drone. In this episode we cover every aspect of this question, including things you need to watch out for when you do this. Thanks for the question, Jerry! Speaking of that, did you know it's really easy to get your questions answered on our show? Just go to http://AskDroneU.com and you can quickly submit your question(s) for us to go through.  ADU 0090: I'm traveling internationally and taking my Inspire 1. Will I have any issues getting through customs with it? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 686

Our question today comes from Chris in Tennessee. He's going to be traveling internationally this summer and plans on taking his drone with him (toothbrush, deodorant, wife and...drone). Chris is asking if he will have any issues getting the drone through customs with his Inspire 1? We actually had to poll our pilots and others to adequately answer this question for you, Chris. So to all our listeners, you should know that you have a resource in Drone U that will not only answer your questions, but make sure we have the best, most thorough answer for you.  ADU 0089: What is the best drone(s) to use if I want to start making videos for Realtors? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 991

Our question today comes from Mark (Bob). Honestly, we're not sure what our listener's name is since he didn't leave it, so we just made one (or two) up. We get to have some fun every now and then, right? Anyways, Mark (for this episode) is asking about the best drone(s) to use if he's wanting to get started in shooting videos for Realtors. As we've said before, this is probably the best, quickest and easiest way to get started making money with your drone. But having the right equipment, especially when flying in someone's home, is critically important. So thanks for your great question, Mark (or whatever your actual name is). We really do appreciate you submitting your question to Ask Drone U; keep it up! Speaking of that, did you know it's really easy to get your questions answered on our show?  ADU 0088: It's Memorial Day! Can I fly my drone in National Parks without getting in trouble? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1096

Today we take a step away from our normal routine of answering your questions because today is a special day. Since it's Memorial Day we wanted to bring into studio two dear friends of ours from Lappert Smith Technologies (http://www.lappertsmithtechnologies.com/), Peter and Walt. Not only are they incredible drone builders and pilots, they both served our great country in the United States Air Force. We thought it was a great opportunity for us to chat with them not only about UAV systems, equipment and safety (and all kinds of other things), but also about their time in the military as we remember those who gave all for our great country. Additionally, we remind you of important safety procedures you should take, especially around busy holidays like Memorial Day. We also touch on flying in and around National Parks. Lastly, we talk a bit about the new X6 Peter and Walt are building for Drone U right now. We're so excited to get this rig in the air! Speaking of that, fly safe, have a great Memorial Day and remember those who have sacrificed their life for our country, enabling us to freely fly our UAVs today.  ADU 0087: What would be a good way to get started in precision agriculture with the equipment I already have? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1225

Our question today comes from our Drone U friend, Kyle in Minnesota. He mentions how there are a lot of farming and fields in Minnesota and, therefore, he is asking what would be a good way to get started in precision agriculture with the equipment he already has? We're very thankful to have an industrial drone expert at Drone U headquarters today in Peter Dis. He knows industrial applications and drones like the back of his hand. So we go through the many varying layers of this topic to help you all out. As always, thanks for your question, Kyle!
