Best all age comic books for December 14 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:14

There are only two more new comic book days before Christmas, so if you plan on getting a young reader or yourself something for that long weekend stock up now. The best all age comics this week run the gamut to cool graphic novels to a couple of the go-to comics that you can never go wrong with. Let’s start off with two action/science-fiction graphic novels. Kids 6 and up will like Dragons Defenders of Berk, it’s an original graphic novel about Toothless, Dragon Training Academy and Vikings. If your kids have seen either of the films they’ll love this. The other action graphic novel is Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises and it collects issues 1-4 of this outstanding comic book. Kids 8 and up will like this, mainly due to the reading required to really enjoy the comic. Bruce Lee is one of the best all age comics this year that blends classic action, science fiction and humor in a package that anybody can enjoy. Two funny graphic novels that’ll hit their sweet spot is Adventure Time: Ice King and Simpsons Comics Knockout. Both of these books are laugh out loud funny, have distinctive art and are more palatable for younger audiences in print, than their television counterpart. In humor comic books check out Mickey & Donald Christmas Parade #2, Spongebob Comics #63, as well as, My Little Pony: Friends Forever #35 and others to tickle the yuletide funny bone. Fans of all age comic books who dig super heroes will be drawn to the heroes in a half shell, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures Vol 2. A new comic book that brings together two great characters for a mini-series is Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. #2 of #6 is out this week and this series is outstanding. It brings real action and mood to a genre that normally paints its superheroes as cartoonish or too young for most 7 year olds. Invader Zim, Mega Princess, Scooby Doo Where Are You? and Sonic Universe are also out this week. Where’s your closest comic book store? What are you reading? If you take any photos be sure to tag it with #AllAgeComics to get new ideas or share what you think others should check out.  Best all age comics for December 7 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:33

With the holidays and Christmas just around the corner this is a great week to think about some presents that kids will really want. OK, sometimes what they really want isn’t what they receive. Specifically we’re talking the best all age comics for this week and call it good timing or effective marketing but there is a great variety of graphic novels that will appeal to kids 5 and up. For girls aged 5 and Barbie is back! I know, she really never went anywhere, but her presence in print has certainly been lacking until now. Papercutz has released Barbie: Puppy Party, it’s an original graphic novel that ages 5 and up will enjoy. The younger ages will need some helping reading along, however the content will run parallel to their play time activities and toys. Self-guided readers 7 and up will be able to read by themselves to Barbie: Puppy Party. Here is the shocker, Barbie: Puppy Party is not just about being pretty and playing with puppies. There are lots of great messages in the book and it approaches them in a non-preachy way that would otherwise be a turn off for kids. Also in humor comic books this week Adventure Time #59, Duck Avenger #2 and Looney Tunes #234 are out. Another very enjoyable and quirky graphic novel for ages 9 and up this week is Boom Box 2016 from Boom! Studios. These are all new stories about being in a band, playing music and being a teen. If you’re a fan of Lumberjanes, Goldie Vance, Archie, The Backstagers or more this is your jam. It’s priced at $9.99 and has 44 original pages. Mickey Mouse also has a new graphic novel out this week, Mickey Craziest Adventures. It has Mickey meeting aliens, dinosaurs and other strange creatures, The art is this book is other-worldly and looks, psychadelic,  strange and not at all Disney, all the while having the charm of a classic Disney cartoon. This won’t be good for a 5 year old, but your 8 year old who needs to be reminded that Mickey Mouse is cool will dig this. One of the best all age comics this week is Jim Henson Storyteller Giants. Archaia, an imprint of Boom! Studios has put out a couple of these series, Dragons and Witches both had stunning art, magical stories and reminds older readers that art is a part of the comic book world. Part 1 of this 4 part mini-series is about a giant is treated by a village that has no reason to fear him and his quest to improve his reputation. There is a fair amount of reading in this comic and its dreamy, middle Earth appearance won’t immediately attract ‘superhero’ kids. However, this is fabulous on many levels and ages 12 and up who want something fresh, original, beautiful should check this one out. Western fans are left out in the cold when it comes to comics. This week come inside and read Varmints. It’s an original graphic novel about a pair of siblings traveling the old west looking for the man who shot their mother. This is drawn in a way that comic strip fans will gravitate towards and is very thick, with a longer story than you might imagine. It’s also refreshing to read something set in the past, without a hint of technology. Ages 12 and up will like this simply due to the fact that there is some very mild violence. The great and funky music in the podcast is from Polyrhythmics. Where is my closest comic book store? Have you heard the podcast-if so, a review on iTunes, Google Play, Podomatic or Soundcloud would be appreciated.   Humor document.

All age comic books for October 25 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:31

The week before Halloween means it’s the final chance for you to pick up the Halloween Comicfest Mini-Comics. They’re $4.99 and have 25 individual comics that are great to pass out for small people in costumes. Speaking of costumes, the Greatest Halloween Contest Ever is happening now. Just snap a photo of someone in costume holding one of the free full or mini-sized Halloween Comicfest Comics and upload it. Winners will receive a $500 or $100 shopping spree to your local comic book store. In all age comics there is something for every age reader regardless of what they like to read. This is the week that has lots of Joe Books. Joe Books are the publisher that puts out Disney’s Darkwing Duck, Disney Frozen, Disney Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, Dreamwork’s Shrek and many others. All of those comics are out this week for the bargain price of only $2.99 an issue. For tween or teen readers there are two fun choices out this week that might fly under their radar. Future Quest is a mash up of the classic Hannah Barbara characters with a story set in modern times. It has lots of action, throwback appeal and some great, realistic art. KISS is most certainly for teen readers because of its future dystopian future and the themes around it. However, this series looks like buckets of fun. It’s a story that was inspired by The Elder, the KISS LP from 1981 that was really under rated, go give it a listen. One of the best monthly all age comics that you pick up each month is Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Issue #12 comes out this week and the series is a whoot about a girl, going to school, STEM education and dinosaurs. Sonic Universe, X-Files Origins #3, Doctor Who, Lumberjanes and the trade paperback for Action Cat and Adventure Bug hit stores this week. What are some of the best all age comics for your kids? There is something for every reader and if you need help just ask the folks at the front when you arrive. It can be a little intimidating to go into a comic book store when you don’t know what you’re looking for, but they’ll make the process quite simple. Did you check out this week’s podcast? The music is from Doctor Frankenstein and was found over at Free Music Archive.  New all age comics for October 19, 2016 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:44

This is one of those weeks. It’s a week for the new all age comics when almost every single one of them is a go-to comic book. From Adventure Time Comics, Archie, a Garfield graphic novel, Invader Zim, My Little Pony, Popeye and Simpsons Comics it’s a great week indeed-and those book are only in the humor category! Two additional funny all age comics you’ll want to check out this week are Herobear and the Kid 2016 Fall Special and Pink Panther Trick or Treat #1. Herobear is the Eisner Award winning series from Mike Kunkel about the story of a boy and his super bear stuffed animal. Any age will immediately love and relate to an alternate world where children’s toys have a life of their own. It’s lovingly drawn and has a timeless appeal that will draw anyone regardless of their interest. There are a couple releases this week that are more appropriate for ages 12 and up. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe, Godzilla: Rage Across Time #3 and Kong of Skull Island #4. Those last two are action packed and feature too much real violence and danger from some readers who are under 12. Mad Magazine is one of those things that teens may or may not like. We picked up an issue recently and it wasn’t funny. It certainly had moments, but not enough to merit its $5.99 price tag.  If you haven’t read an issue of Mad Magazine lately it’s appropriate for ages 14 and up, due to some of the drawings, humor and adult situations. Graphic novels as a means to reading all age comics might not be everyone’s delivery system due to their cost. Part of that is fear and investment. A $3.99 investment in a comic book isn’t much, but a $13.99 purchase means that you really need to like it. Having said that, Plants Vs. Zombies Graphic Novel Boxed Set #2 is one of the safest buys you can do this week regarding graphic novels for all age readers. Our 5 year old can only read his name and likes looking at the art. Our 7 year old can read quite well and rabidly enjoys these characters. Where is my closest comic book store? Did you leave a rating for the podcast? In this week’s podcast we’ll tell you our favorite all age comics of the week, as well as, having our 7YO tell you which ones he’s most excited about….in his own particular way.  New all age comics for October 12, 2016 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:46

First off, did you pick up any of the mini-comics for Halloween Comicfest? They come in packs of 25, only cost $4.99, are great to five out to kids in lieu of candy and arrived at your local comic book store. They also sell out very quickly, so if you want them double time it to the store ASAP. This week in all age comics brings the funny and a couple great action/science fiction comics. Not surprisingly, many of the regular issues have a supernatural aspect to them including Spongebob Comics #61, Disney Giant Halloween Hex #1 and Scooby Doo Where Are You #74. If you’ve got a young reader who is 8 and older that wants their undead fix then your option is Ghoul Scouts, Night of the Unliving Undead. This is a series that really deals with the dead, but does so in a kid friendly way that entertains, teaches a couple lessons and has a group of kids running from a potentially zombified town. What’s impressive is that there are thrills and it’s really appropriate for ages 8 and up. Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy #13 is the all ages super hero series that consistently entertains. It’s Drax, he’s angry and the rest of his friends join him in the coming war with Asgard. Do your kids like the Guardians of the Galaxy series on Disney XD? If so they will love this comic book, it’s packed with action, humor and works for ages 6 and up. Where is your closest comic book store? Did you hear the podcast? What comics are you reading? Let us know what you like in the comments or hit us up on twitter.  A conversation with Dr. Scott Viguie, AKA Doctor Geek at Dragon Con | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:45

Education, especially STEM based education can be tricky thing for some students and educators. It’s frustrating for parents too because STEM based jobs  will grow by 5.5 million jobs between now and 2022. Doctor Geek’s Laboratory hears you and is there to help you in many ways that you may not even know you need help. As part of Dragon Con we interviewed Doctor Scott Viguie. He’s has two doctorate degrees, is an archeologist, attorney, actor and author. His life story is nothing short of impossible, inspiring and fascinating. Growing up with Cerebral Palsy, his thirst for knowledge, natural curiosity and determination offer lessons that anyone-regardless of their passion for science, technology, engineering, art or math can learn from. Yes, art. Dr. Scott Viguie, AKA, Doctor Geek incorporates ‘Art’ into his materials. His podcast, Doctor Geek’s Laboratory is more of a radio soap opera than podcast. It presents real science lessons that people can learn from. It’s science inspired by fiction that applies itself to home scholars, students who want to be entertained while they learn or just folks looking to hear a top notch podcast.

New all age comics for October 5 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:09

There are two cool fronts this week. The new mini-comics that you give out for Halloween or for other purposes are out this week. These are small than average, all age comics that are sold in bundles of 25 for only $4.99. They come in a wide variety of titles and can be found at your local comic book store.  There is that in addition to the week’s new all age comics and there are some really cool ones. In Humor comics it’s kind of a bummer that one of our favorite comics, Regular Show is ending its run with issue #40. This is a really funny comic book that has the spirit of the show down, great art and big,  funny dialogue. In this issue Mordecai and Rigby have to save the world, by getting Benson the save the world. Ages 9 and up will laugh out loud at this one. Looney Tunes #233 is out and at a price point of only $2.99 everyone will love this. Archie Meets The Ramones sounds like stunt casting-and it is, but based on previous Archie stunts we’ll buy into this one. I thought Archie Meets The Punisher would suck-it didn’t. I thought the same thing about Archie Meets Predator, it didn’t. Don’t bet against Archie or Riverdale and gabba, gabba, hey your way into this comic book. One of the coolest comic books we’re excited about this week is Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up Marvel Universe. This is a brand new graphic novel that has Squirrel Girl taking on every Marvel hero and villain. Normally an issue of Squirrel Girl is great for ages 9 and up. Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up Marvel Universe is going to be OK for slightly older readers, mainly due to the increased combat and camp humor. Betty Boop is new this week, but this time she’s fighting ghosts and zombies! It’s good for ages 12 and up. Her appearance is the same, some audiences will enjoy the camp value while others won’t like her look. For audiences looking for a strong, modern girl-power book check out Miraculous Origins Goldie Vance. Issue #6 from Goldie Vance is out and this character is a crime solving tween with her mother and friends in Florida. It’s also a great all ages comic, especially for girls because there’s humor, intrigue, friendships and more that will keep them hooked. Did you check out the podcast? If so-and you could rate it on the provider that you found it from like Google Play, iTunes or Podomatic, that would be great.  All age comic books for September 28 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:49

It’s almost one month before Halloween Comicfest, plan ahead for that because it is lots of fun. This week in all age comic books it’s a great week for Disney comic books. Specifically, Joe Books has Darkwing Duck, Disney Frozen, Disney Pixar Finding Dory, Disney Princess and Disney Pirates of the Caribbean. All of those comic books are only $2.99 also, so it’s a great value too. There are a couple comic books this week that are better geared at slightly older readers who are 9 and older. Future Quest #5 is a fun comic that bring in some classic Hanna Barbara characters, it also has lots of reading and is plot centric. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #2 is a new turtle title that might be too realistic for those younger than 10. Godzilla Rage Across Time #2 has some great art and realistic violence, but again is appropriate for ages 10 and up. There are also a couple Doctor Who comic books out this week. These books are great, but are too complex for those under 9. Do you have an upper elementary or middle school girl who is looking for something? Check out Heavenly Nostrils Chronicle graphic novel from Razzle Dazzle Unicorn. That age group will also like Jonesy trade paperback, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl are among some of the cool all age comic books out this week that really speak to young girls. All young readers will absolutely love Star Wars I Am Little Golden Books Library. It’s a chance to share Star Wars books for kids of any age. Elementary ages and up are able to read them and anyone will like looking at the art. Where is my closest comic book store? The music you hear in the podcast is from Dlay, over at Free Music Archives. Did you check out the podcast? If so-can you give it a rating on whichever provider you heard it on? Next week: we’ll take a look at the Halloween Comicfest books, these are the books that you can give out to trick or treeters and cost .25 each, what a deal!   Humor document.write(decodeURIComponent('%3Cscript%3E(function%20(htm)%7B%0D%0Afunction%20%24id()%7B%0D%0Avar%20id%3D%27ShareASale-%27%2BMath.random().toString(36).substr(2).toUpperCase()%3B%0D%0Areturn%20document.getElementById(id)%3F%24id()%3Aid%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0Avar%20ifr%2Cdoc%2Cid%20%3D%20%24id()%3B%0D%0Adocument.write(%27%3Ciframe%20id%3D%22%27%2Bid%2B%27%22%20src%3D%22about%3Ablank%22%20scrolling%3D%22no%22%20style%3D%22border%3A0%3Boverflow%3Ahidden%3Bbackground%3Atransparent%3Bwidth%3A100%25%3B%22%3E%3C%2Fiframe%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Aifr%20%3D%20document.getElementById(id)%3B%0D%0Adoc%20%3D%20ifr.contentDocument%7C%7Cifr.contentWindow.document%3B%0D%0Adoc.open()%3B%0D%0Adoc.write(%27%3C!DOCTYPE%20html%3E%3Chtml%3E%3Cmeta%20charset%3D%22UTF-8%22%3E%3Cbody%20style%3D%22height%3A100%25%3Bmargin%3A0%3Bpadding%3A0%3Bfont-family%3Asans-serif%3Bfont-size%3A12pt%3B%22%3E%27%2Bhtm%2B%27%3C%2Fbody%3E%3C%2Fhtml%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Adoc.close()%3B%0D%0Awindow.setTimeout((%0D%0Afunction(I%2CD)%7B%0D%0Avar%20s%3D%20I.style%2C%20%0D%0Ab%20%3D%20doc.body%3B%0D%0As.width%20%3D%20b.scrollWidth%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0As.height%20%3D%20b.scrollHeight%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0A).bind(null%2C%20ifr%2C%20doc)%2C200)%3B%0D%0A%7D)(decodeURIComponent(%27%253Ca%2520target%253D%2522_blank%2522%2520href%253D%2522http%253A%252F%252Fshareasale.com%252Fm-pr.cfm%253Fmerchantid%253D8908%2526amp%253Buserid%253D1034575%2526amp%253Bproductid%253D639145610%2526amp%253Bafftrack%253D%2522%2520style%253D%2522display%253Ainline-block%253Bborder-radius%253A2em%253Bborder%253A2pt%2520dashed%2520%2523...

The Late Jurassic, detailed, educational-all age, dinosaur book | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:10

Both of our children loved dinosaurs. This is great for us because we like dinosaurs too. We’ve saved all of the dinosaur toys and models that they have (Dinovember!!!) and are still thankful that one of our kids is in this zone. The problem for parents and therefore young children has always been a lack of all age accessible dinosaur books. They’re too cartoonish or detailed for the short attention span that young children have. Early Earth Journal, The Late Jurassic by Juan Carlos Alonso and Gregory S. Paul fills this void of dinosaur books perfectly. Adults, as well as, children of any age will jump into The Late Jurassic and find themselves getting lost in the illustrations and education. Don’t tell the kids that there’s a fair amount of education happening here. For the most part they won’t notice the in depth notes on the skeletal system of a Therapod or learning exactly what is an Ornithischian. Kids will fall in love with the illustrations and unlike most dinosaur books that are OK for children, it doesn’t sugar coat the dino world. There are some illustrations that feature various dinosaurs eating, but it’s not graphic and is done is such a manner that even our 4 year old can look at them. It’s not bloody or over the top, but it gets the point across that some of these creatures were the biggest, most brutal predators ever to roam the Earth.   Adults will pick up the book and be reminded of those Time-Life books we had back in the day. This is a quality book with a very sturdy spine, thicker than average semi-glossy paper that thankfully includes a pronunciation key at the back. The Theropods, Sauropds, Ornithischians, Pterosaurs and Mammals each have their own section with a couple pages of overview about the time period. That text is for middle school students and sets up each dinosaur. Members of each classification are given two pages to strut their stuff. We see a wide shot, close up of their head, perhaps their mouth, claws, hunting style or other quality that made them unique.

All age comic books for September 21 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:00

Every Wednesday is new comic book day; it’s when dozens of new books are released to your local store. In that amount are about two dozen all age comic books that are great for ages 4 and up. Some of the comic books in this list are going to be geared for tweens. We’ll point out those books the best that we can. When in doubt you can email us, trey@daddymojo.net, @daddymojo on twitter or ask your local comic book store, they’re jam packed with knowledge. Oh-the podcast! Give that a listen if you would, it’s only 15 minutes and we’ll highlight some of the more unique books that are released. A rating on whichever service you’re listening to it on would be great too. Can you do that for us? Let’s go over the comics that are great, but are for the older readers in the children’s category. These comics are great for ages 10 and up, mainly due to the content, which might have some death, violence or themes that aren’t OK for young kids. Atomic Robo and the Temple of Od and Doctor Who are fun sci-fi mini-series with more reading than younger kids will tolerate. Creepy Case File Margo Maloo graphic novel is a book that ages 9 and up will like, but its scare factor might be too much for younger ones. Toil and Trouble is a fresh look at the story behind Shakespeare’s MacBeth. The art and story are beautiful, it’s one that age group-if they’re into the classics will eat up. Our 4 year old loves Donald Duck and issue #17 from IDW is out this week. Invader Zim is a funny series-that you don’t have to know anything about the television show to really enjoy. Adventure Time 2016 Spooktactular #1, Miraculous #5, Angry Birds #9 and lots of others give kids looking for all age comic books many options to choose from. MoonCop is for the adults. MoonCop is for the kids that get dry, observational humor. Both of these statements are true. From cartoonist Ton Gauld, MoonCop is unlike anything you’ve read before and is such that you can relate to it here on Earth or on the moon.     Action/Science fiction document.write(decodeURIComponent('%3Cscript%3E(function%20(htm)%7B%0D%0Afunction%20%24id()%7B%0D%0Avar%20id%3D%27ShareASale-%27%2BMath.random().toString(36).substr(2).toUpperCase()%3B%0D%0Areturn%20document.getElementById(id)%3F%24id()%3Aid%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0Avar%20ifr%2Cdoc%2Cid%20%3D%20%24id()%3B%0D%0Adocument.write(%27%3Ciframe%20id%3D%22%27%2Bid%2B%27%22%20src%3D%22about%3Ablank%22%20scrolling%3D%22no%22%20style%3D%22border%3A0%3Boverflow%3Ahidden%3Bbackground%3Atransparent%3Bwidth%3A100%25%3B%22%3E%3C%2Fiframe%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Aifr%20%3D%20document.getElementById(id)%3B%0D%0Adoc%20%3D%20ifr.contentDocument%7C%7Cifr.contentWindow.document%3B%0D%0Adoc.open()%3B%0D%0Adoc.write(%27%3C!DOCTYPE%20html%3E%3Chtml%3E%3Cmeta%20charset%3D%22UTF-8%22%3E%3Cbody%20style%3D%22height%3A100%25%3Bmargin%3A0%3Bpadding%3A0%3Bfont-family%3Asans-serif%3Bfont-size%3A12pt%3B%22%3E%27%2Bhtm%2B%27%3C%2Fbody%3E%3C%2Fhtml%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Adoc.close()%3B%0D%0Awindow.setTimeout((%0D%0Afunction(I%2CD)%7B%0D%0Avar%20s%3D%20I.style%2C%20%0D%0Ab%20%3D%20doc.body%3B%0D%0As.width%20%3D%20b.scrollWidth%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0As.height%20%3D%20b.scrollHeight%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0A).bind(null%2C%20ifr%2C%20doc)%2C200)%3B%0D%0A%7D)(decodeURIComponent(%27%253Ca%2520target%253D%2522_blank%2522%2520href%253D%2522http%253A%252F%252Fshareasale.com%252Fm-pr.cfm%253Fmerchantid%253D8908%2526amp%253Buserid%253D1034575%2526amp%253Bproductid%253D639145987%2526amp%253Bafftrack%253D%2522%2520style%253D%2522display%253Ainline-block%253Bborder-radius%253A2em%253Bborder%253A2pt%2520dashed%2520%252399E%253Bbackground%253Awhite%253Btext-decoration%253Anone%253B%2522%253E%253Ctable%2520style%253D%2522border-co...

All Age Comic Books for September 14 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:13

Happy new comic book day. Each Wednesday dozens upon dozens of new comics hit your local store, dozens of those are great all age comic books. This week has many graphic novels, a couple books you want to check out and some classics too. If you have an elementary school reader your kid (most likely a boy…) is seriously into Captain Underpants. Dav Pilkey is the author behind that series and his latest book, Dog Man came out last week. Dog Man is a departure from Captain Underpants in that it’s an original graphic novel that was fictionally created by Harold Hutchins and George Beard. They are the main characters in Captain Underpants and serve as the ‘creators’ of Dog Man. Kids 6 and up will love this graphic novel and bug you incessantly about when the second one will be released. Also in new graphic novels is Big Nate, Revenge of the Cream Puffs by Lincoln Peirce. This cartoon celebrates its 25 year in 2016 and is consistently funny. This graphic novel collects previously released strips and is all color. It’s great for ages 6 and up. We missed Monty The Dinosaur when it came out two weeks ago. Look for issue #1 because it’s one of the best new all age comic books that you’ll read this year. It’s got a timeless soul and feels like a classic comic strip that you’ll find in your newspaper. Do you have a reader who is 9 years old and likes monsters? Kaijumax Season 2, #4 is out and is a great monster comic for that age. The action is too much for all ages, but that age can handle big city destruction, massive monsters and the family lessons that go with this book. Mighty Jack is another graphic novel that age group will love. Its twist is that Jack helps out with his younger sisters during the summer, one of whom is non-verbal Autistic. One day Maddy speaks and tells him to do something that opens up a world of adventure, all in his backyard. Powerpuff Girls, two World of Reading books, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and lots more hit shelves this week too. Where is my closest comic book store? Just check out the comic book store locator.  New all age comic books for August 31 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:00

Happy new comic book day! Actually #NCBD is every Wednesday, but if you’re reading this on any day other than that make it a great one anyway. This week in all age comic books the superheroes lead the way with a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle title, say that three times fast. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #1 will be great for readers 10 and up, #1 comes out this week and is a great chance for middle schoolers to jump in on the ground floor. Superhero fans can also read on with Mighty Morhpin Power Rangers #6, Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy #11 and a couple others. Do you or your kids watch Amazing World of Gumball? It’s on Cartoon Network and is ridiculously happy. Parents have nothing to fear from this show or its comic book counterparty from Boom! Studios. Their Grab Bag Special #1 is out with all new stories and an oversized issue packed with laughs and plenty of sillies. Disney Princess #6 from Joe Books, Dreamworks Classics trade paperback volume 3 and My Little Pony #45 is out. If you have an older reader who likes smart, funny things have them check out Groo: Fray of the Gods from legendary cartoonist Sergio Aragones. His distinct style of drawing has been lighting up Mad Magazine for decades and it’s a treat to see that he’s still producing new, quality work that entertains all age readers. If you like Doctor Who this is your week. There are more Doctor Who comic books out than usual this week, get in touch with your Whovian self. Ages 10 and up who like action and mystery need to read Future Quest. This is a fun title from DC Comics that has some reading, so it’s too much for younger kids, but that age will like the intrigue and follow along with a mash up of Hannah Barbara heroes. Some all age comic books bridge genres. That’s exactly what Mighty Zodiac does. One could easily call this a superhero comic, but the heroes have more in common with the signs of the zodiac. It’s got action, enough words to practice reading and is a great comic book that flies under radar. Check it out. The music in the podcast is from Dlay, you can find all their stuff over at Free Music Archive. Where is your closest comic book shop?  All Age Comic Books for August 17, 2016 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:51

Every Wednesday is new comic book day when dozens upon dozens of comics hit the stores. In that lot there are at least two dozen all age comic books that are great for any age reader. This week we’re highlighting some really cool ones including a great graphic novel from DC Comics, Looney Tunes Greatest Hits Vol. 1, What’s Up Doc?  This collects some classic stories from this long running comic book that’s been published since 1994. In other all age comic books that young readers will want to read (and are OK with parents), check out Duck Avenger, a new series from IDW, Powerpuff Girls, My Little Pony or Strawberry Shortcake. #2 of Mickey Mouse Shorts Season 1 is out too. This is a fun mini-series that offers a re-imagining of Mickey and other characters that pictures them in an art deco way reminiscent of 60’s advertisements. Your all age super books include the go-to title Teen Titans GO! and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #61. The Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover from DC Comics and IDW is out and a very fun graphic novel for readers 10 and up. That age group will also like Kong of Skull Island, that’s a new mini-series from Boom! Studios. The art in this comic book is realistic and has some flashes of violence and action that might be too much for kids younger than that. Tween readers will love the updated story and it serves as a great primer for the movie next year.  Also in action/science fiction is the latest from Lumberjanes, Sonic the Hedgehog, Back to the Future and a neat graphic novel called Bird Boy that’s got enough nature and action to entertain anyone. Star Wars Original Topps Trading Card Series HC Volume 3, Return of the Jedi is out. These books reprint the original trading cards from the first trilogy. The first two books in this series by Topps were great fun and made us curse our 9 year old self for not keeping them.   Humor // // // // // // // // // // Super Hero // // // // Action/Science Fiction // // // // // // // // // // // // //

All age comic books for August 10 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:59

Did you check out the podcast? Look just above these lines, we’ll wait here….that’s the podcast that highlights the top 9 all age comic books this week. If you have any input, things you liked or comics we should feature please let us know. Now, let’s laugh. There are some funny all age comics out this week including a $1 My Little Pony, Adventure Time, Invader Zim and the classic Popeye. Flintstones #2 is out too, but its description doesn’t look funny. Have you read this comic book yet? If so please let us know your thoughts. Otherwise this a semi-realistic tale about stone age nostalgia doesn’t sound like something the kids want to read. Superheroes have The Lone Ranger/Green Hornet for old soul young readers, Spidey trade paperback that collects issues 1-6 and The Rocketeer at War. There is a Doctor Who book for every preference this week and ours is Doctor Who Supremacy of the Cybermen. This collects lots of doctors who are doing their best to prevent a Cybermen new war and assist in an ancient alien war. The show might be too much for young kids, but the Doctor Who comic from Titan is age appropriate for all age comic books.  Young readers will love the action and science fiction and their only difficulty will be in fully understanding the vocabulary. Jim Henson Labyrinth 30th Anniversary Special collects previously uncollected stories from Free Comic Book Day and lots of other tales too.  Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy #3 is also a great crossover mini-series that young readers 9 and up will like. It’s got the wit, charm and weirdness of Lumberjanes and throws in the slightly more realistic fun of Gotham Academy.   Action/Science-fiction // // // // // // // // // // // // // // Superhero // // // // Humor // // // // // // // //
