All age comic books for September 5 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:08

Variety! This week in all age comic books is jammed with variety. From the STEM minded tween, the sight word pony fans and middle school superheroes, there’s something for any kid aged 5 and up. In the podcast we’ll talk in detail about the new Dog Man, Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero’s Journey , Kitten Construction Company, Daredevil, Dinosaur-a Photicular book and more. For now let’s look at the Kitten Construction Company A construction company that’s helmed by kittens and written by the author of Hippopatmister? Kitten Construction Company is great silly fun by John Patrick Green and appropriate for ages 5 and up. Those younger ages will need help reading it, while 7 and up should be able to read it by themselves. Marmalade is a kitten who is never given a chance because she’s too cute. But, she’s also a trained architect, so she teams up with some other kittens to form Kitten Construction Company. This graphic novel has more going for it than cute drawings of kittens and feline puns. There are some lessons kids can learn as they laugh along the way. Kitten Construction Company is from :01 First Second books. James Bond Origin We want to love this and look forward to reading it. James Bond Origin is a mini-series from Dynamite Entertainment about a young James Bond who wants to make a difference in the early days of WWII. There’s a new British government service that’s being formed and he might be just the man to take part in it. Take my money. As a child I read most of the James Bond books, granted they were screenplays, but they were still books. James Bond Origin has aspects of Ian Fleming’s real-life experience as a naval intelligence officer, but is firmly rooted in 007. This is a comic book that’ll be great for middle school students who like to read, can handle a layered plot and want to dig into another layer of an iconic character. If I were 12 years old this would be my jam. Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories, #743 If you’re looking for oversized Disney fun, then Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories #743 is for you. This comic book is great for any age to look at and enjoy, but the reading in this series makes it good for ages 8 and up to read by themselves. This is thick, retails for $5.99 and has at least two stories that’ll entertain the Disney kids as you plan your next trip to Orlando.  All age comic books for August 15 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:34

It’s new comic book day and there are some great all age comic books out this week. Over in the podcast we’ll talk about Bartman, Jim Henson Beneath The Dark Crystal, Teen Titans Go! and more. For now, let’s look at three all age comic books that will interest boys or girls as young as six. Disney Princess Comics Collection Disney Princess Comics Collection Volume 4 has stories from Cinderalla, Tiana, Rapunzel, Belle, Pocahontas and more. These are comic stories originally published in the monthly comic book Disney Princess. Think of this trade paperback as a Disney Princess greatest hits from the most recent couple of issues. Girls 6 and up will love this series. They might need help reading it, but you’ll have just as much fun reading it as they will hearing it. Archie Meets Batman 66, #2 Robin and Batgirl must go undercover at Riverdale in 1966. Batman will most certainly make an appearance with lots of BAM!, POW! and ZOW! to entertain kids of all ages. Batman 66 is a great series of comic books and this mini-series makes total sense. Archie has teamed up with all manner of characters from The Punisher to The Ramones. Having the Riverdale gang team up with Batman in one of his most famous incarnations is like welcoming an old friend to dinner. Kids 6 and up will be OK with the content, but those younger kids might not know enough about either property to enjoy it. Ages 8 and up will know both properties and be able to enjoy the series. Sonic The Hedgehog, #8 Go into any elementary school library and you’ll see some Sonic The Hedgehog comic books. You’ll see them there for a good reason. This is one of the go-to all age comic books for boys or girls. It’s jammed with action, has humor, characters that kids know and love-plus a history where some parents will enjoy reading it too. Check out any issue of Sonic The Hedgehog from IDW Publishing and you’ll see why it makes a great gift to any school library.  All age comic books for August 8 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:30

Hello new comic book day! It’s every Wednesday and there are handfuls of great all age comic books that come out each week. In the podcast we’ll take a deeper look at the best selling comic book of all time in New Zealand, a summer special from one of the great go-to comics, a classic literary crime solving teen comes to comics and more. For now though let’s look at three all age comic books that’ll entertain readers as young as 6. My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic #69 For girls aged 4 through 9 My Little Pony can be their jam. I say ‘can be’ because not all girls will like MLP, but most of them will. In issue #69 of My Little Pony Pinkie Pie finds a magical apple that gives her special powers. Try not to smile when you read that sentence. It’s the same with the comic book, this is happy stuff that will please anybody if you give it a chance. Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #35 If you know of a middle school student or even one in their final year of elementary school who is looking for a truly cool hero look no further than Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. With tongue firmly in cheek, she hangs with supers, foils villainous plots and survives being a teenager. In this issue Spider-Man joins her for some fun and possibly to help take down Kraven. Blastosaurus Blastosaurus is the #1 selling comic book of all time in New Zealand. It’s being relaunched in the U.S. as an all age comic book. He’s a 6-foot-tall mutant triceratops who is helped by two 12-year olds as they fight monsters, robots, aliens and more. This looks fun, original and just like the sort of thing that will shake up kids 8 and up who can read independently. We’re now crossing our fingers for more Phineas & Ferb comic books or graphic novels and asking nicely to the Disney folks in bookland. Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules is the third book in this action series by Tony Cliff. Older readers, even those not in school, will enjoy the intelligent story, action and characters in this great example of a graphic novel that entertains on many levels.  All age comic books for July 18 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:47

There are lots of great all age comic books out this week. There is something for everyone from ages 5 and up. True story: we were in the comic book store this week and I overheard a dad looking for something for his 5 YO girl. The comic book store employee helped him out, but their suggestions were aimed at too high of an age. Over in the podcast we’ll chat briefly about how a parent of young children can navigate the comic book store successfully. For now let’s look at three comic books that will entertain even the pickiest of young readers who are 5 and up. Disney Princess #21 That dad in the comic book store needs to check this out. Disney Princess is a monthly comic book from Joe Books that hammers the young girl demographic with humor, princess stories, heroism and girls who they already know. That young of an age won’t be able to read them, but that’s why mom and dad read to kids at night, isn’t it? Futurama Comics Annual #1 From Bongo Comics this is the first annual from Futurama Comics. That comic book is no longer being printed physically, but does have new content distributed via the Futurama app. It’s because of that fact that this issue is one of our picks of the week. This series is funny to ages 8 and up and will especially poke the funny bone of Simpsons fans who yearn for some Planet Express. Rise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the new version of the animated TMNT that was previously on Nickelodeon. Rise will still be on Nick and the new comic book will be out on IDW Publishing. These are the turtles that are in line with the ‘animated TMNT’, they’re more kid friendly-without skimping on the action, but not as old as the ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book. Issue 0 is out this week and is great for ages 6 and up.  All age comic books for May 16 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:59

New comic book day is every Wednesday; it’s when comic book stores receive their new comics. In those shipments are a dozen or two all age comics that are Ok for younger readers. In this post we highlight lots independent press comic books, as well as the big houses, DC and Marvel Comics. If you’re new to all age comic books and looking exclusively at those two publishers you’ll only be seeing a minority of the comics that are OK for kids. In the podcast we’ll chat about the ‘life’ comics that are good for tweens, plus Moe from The Simpsons gets his own one shot, Steven Universe, Sonic the Hedgehog and more. For now, let’s look at three all age comic books that will be appropriate for ages 6 and up. Future Quest Presents, #10 DC Comics has this great series that blends classic Hanna-Barbera properties in new stories that will entertain readers 8 and up. Future Quest Presents #10 is about Dorno of the Herculoids. Yeah, I didn’t know who they were either, but in the late 60’s that was a cartoon jammed with dinosaurs, dragons apes, huminoids and science-fiction. This is fun, creative stuff that kids won’t be familiar with, but will love nonetheless and be the cool kids sharing things that their friends don’t know about yet. Garfield 2018 Vacation Time Blues Boom! Studios is one of the largest houses that produces all age comic books. A certain lasagna-loving cat has his adventures printed there and Garfield 2018 Vacation Time Blues is an oversized issue that packs in Odie, Jon and Liz as they enjoy the summer. Garfield is timeless and just as funny in a comic book format as he is in cartoon strips. Invader Zim, #30 Darkpoop Cola might have evil plans. Dib is out to get a bottle of it before Gaz stops him. Kids might have seen Invader Zim on television or maybe they’ve read through one of his comic books. Either way, Invader Zim is just what kids want, it’s gross and rude enough to where they can laugh, but not too inappropriate for some kids. Ages 8 and up will love this comic book. Who am I kidding, kids even younger than that have probably seen the show, so parents, use your judgment on this one.   Humor document.write(decodeURIComponent('%3Cscript%3E(function(htm)%7B%0D%0Afunction%20%24id()%7B%0D%0Avar%20id%3D%27ShareASale-%27%2BMath.random().toString(36).substr(2).toUpperCase()%3B%0D%0Areturn%20document.getElementById(id)%3F%24id()%3Aid%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0Avar%20ifr%2Cdoc%2Cid%20%3D%20%24id()%3B%0D%0Adocument.write(%27%3Ciframe%20id%3D%22%27%2Bid%2B%27%22%20src%3D%22about%3Ablank%22%20scrolling%3D%22no%22%20style%3D%22border%3A0%3Boverflow%3Ahidden%3Bbackground%3Atransparent%3Bwidth%3A100%25%3B%22%3E%3C%2Fiframe%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Aifr%20%3D%20document.getElementById(id)%3B%0D%0Adoc%20%3D%20ifr.contentDocument%7C%7Cifr.contentWindow.document%3B%0D%0Adoc.open()%3B%0D%0Adoc.write(%27%3C!DOCTYPE%20html%3E%3Chtml%3E%3Cmeta%20charset%3D%22UTF-8%22%3E%3Cbody%20style%3D%22height%3A100%25%3Bmargin%3A0%3Bpadding%3A0%3Bfont-family%3Asans-serif%3Bfont-size%3A12pt%3B%22%3E%27%2Bhtm%2B%27%3C%2Fbody%3E%3C%2Fhtml%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Adoc.close()%3B%0D%0Awindow.setTimeout((%0D%0Afunction(I%2CD)%7B%0D%0Avar%20s%3D%20I.style%2C%20%0D%0Ab%20%3D%20doc.body%3B%0D%0As.width%20%3D%20b.scrollWidth%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0As.height%20%3D%20b.scrollHeight%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0A).bind(null%2C%20ifr%2C%20doc)%2C200)%3B%0D%0A%7D)(decodeURIComponent(%27%253Ca%2520target%253D%2522_blank%2522%2520href%253D%2522https%253A%252F%252Fshareasale.com%252Fm-pr.cfm%253Fmerchantid%253D8908%2526amp%253Buserid%253D1034575%2526amp%253Bproductid%253D774374935%2526amp%253Bafftrack%253D%2522%2520style%253D%2522display%253Ainline-block%253Bborder-radius%253A2em%253Bborder%253A2pt%2520dashed%2520%252399E%253Bbackground%253Awhite%253Btext-decoration%253Anone%253B%2522%253E%253Ctable%2520style%253D%2522border-collapse%253Acollapse%253Bborder%253A0%253Bwidth%253Aauto%253Btext-align%253Aleft%253B%2522%253E%253Ctbody%25...

All age comic books for May 9 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:34

Everybody back in the pool, Free Comic Book Day was last week. This is a great chance to visit that comic book store again, to see the new all age comic books that arrive on Wednesday. Just as FCBD happens the first Saturday in May, new comic book day (#NCBD) is every Wednesday and this week has a nice selection of all age comic books that’ll prove to kids 6 and up that FCBD offers more than just freebies once a year. Over in the podcast we’ll chat about Peanuts Vol. 9 from Boom! Studios, Star Wars Block from Abrams Books, a Phoebe and Her Unicorn board book, plus two books with geek roots that’ll inspire tween girls to read. For now, let’s look at three all age comic books that will entertain young readers aged 6 and up. Jim Henson Fraggle Rock #1 It’s 35 years of Fraggle Rock and Boom! Studios has a gorgeous new four-issue mini-series to celebrate with Mokey, Gobo, Wembley, Red and the others. This is a simpler mini-series than the one that came out a couple of years ago. It’s also impeccably beautiful, drawn with love and painted with watercolor. Kids aged 6 and up won’t be able to read it, but they will love (hint, hint….) to have it read to them. The spoken dialogue, in addition to the art that they will be able to appreciate will make them want to visit Fraggle Rock over and over. Spongebob Comics #80 Patrick wants to live in a kelp maze. Mr. Krabs has his miserly heart set upon winning an Underwater Book of Records award and Squidward and Spongebob are in the kitchen cooking. This is one of the best all age comic books that you’ll pick up on any given month. It’s $3.99 and our 8-year old has been reading it since he was 5. Disclosure: we read it also and adults who allow themselves to truly relax will enjoy it also. Star Wars Block The Block books from Abrams Books are phenomenal. They’re board books that have previously taken a look at cities, the alphabet, dinosaurs and numbers. Board books you scoff….but these are the cleverest, highest quality, board books that we’ve seen. Each page folds out to display a key image that Star Wars fans, young and old will immediately recognize. The text in Star Wars Block will be appropriate for any age, while those who are 6 and will be able to read some of the sight words by themselves. As a testament to how well constructed these books are, we still have our Alphablock book from 2013, it’s taught two children and still holds up physically, with its pages and fold outs intact.   Humor document.write(decodeURIComponent('%3Cscript%3E(function(htm)%7B%0D%0Afunction%20%24id()%7B%0D%0Avar%20id%3D%27ShareASale-%27%2BMath.random().toString(36).substr(2).toUpperCase()%3B%0D%0Areturn%20document.getElementById(id)%3F%24id()%3Aid%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0Avar%20ifr%2Cdoc%2Cid%20%3D%20%24id()%3B%0D%0Adocument.write(%27%3Ciframe%20id%3D%22%27%2Bid%2B%27%22%20src%3D%22about%3Ablank%22%20scrolling%3D%22no%22%20style%3D%22border%3A0%3Boverflow%3Ahidden%3Bbackground%3Atransparent%3Bwidth%3A100%25%3B%22%3E%3C%2Fiframe%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Aifr%20%3D%20document.getElementById(id)%3B%0D%0Adoc%20%3D%20ifr.contentDocument%7C%7Cifr.contentWindow.document%3B%0D%0Adoc.open()%3B%0D%0Adoc.write(%27%3C!DOCTYPE%20html%3E%3Chtml%3E%3Cmeta%20charset%3D%22UTF-8%22%3E%3Cbody%20style%3D%22height%3A100%25%3Bmargin%3A0%3Bpadding%3A0%3Bfont-family%3Asans-serif%3Bfont-size%3A12pt%3B%22%3E%27%2Bhtm%2B%27%3C%2Fbody%3E%3C%2Fhtml%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Adoc.close()%3B%0D%0Awindow.setTimeout((%0D%0Afunction(I%2CD)%7B%0D%0Avar%20s%3D%20I.style%2C%20%0D%0Ab%20%3D%20doc.body%3B%0D%0As.width%20%3D%20b.scrollWidth%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0As.height%20%3D%20b.scrollHeight%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0A).bind(null%2C%20ifr%2C%20doc)%2C200)%3B%0D%0A%7D)(decodeURIComponent(%27%253Ca%2520target%253D%2522_blank%2522%2520href%253D%2522https%253A%252...

All age comic books for May 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:49

It’s the week of Free Comic Book Day. The first Saturday of every may is Free Comic Book Day and your local comic book store has full size comic books that are free! Truth in advertising is not dead. Even better, many of these free comic books are OK for all ages. To look at all of the comic books that you can choose from just visit their website. Most comic book stores will allow you to take up to five comic books, so take accordingly, experiment a little bit and ask one of the store employees if you have a question. Because it’s a special day, most stores will be crowded in the morning, but they’ll also have lots of special happenings which could include comic book authors, artists, specials on books or more. As it’s a special week, the new releases are lighter than normal, but there are still a couple of great all age comic books out this week, plus some that we didn’t highly last week that merit your attention. In the podcast we’ll chat about All Summer Long, The City on the Other Side, Zero’s Journey and a couple others. For now though, let’s look at three comics that will interest kids aged five and up. Zodiac Starforce: Cries of the Fire Prince #4 Think Jem and the Holograms, but with less music, but with more science-fiction and action. Zodiac Starforce is a blast of bright colors, team work action and loose fun that will appeal to girls more than boys. The U.S. Zodiac Starforce team has to team up with the U.K. Zodiac team to take down the demon Pavos. Can the two teams put the soccer/football and lift/elevator problems in the past and save the day? Go Go Power Rangers #8 You may not be reading this comic book because you’re tied up, we get it. Consider this your chance to get in on the ground floor of a cool summer story in Go Go Power Rangers. This is the prelude to Shattered Grid, a story that’s taking place in the monthly Power Rangers, as well as Go Go Power Rangers. The first chapter in the Power Rangers comic book has sold out four times, this issue from Go Go Power Rangers is in its second printing. This is setting the ground for a great story so jump on in before it really starts to get good. Betty and Veronica Friends Forever #1 At The Movies #1 There are 299 reasons to love Betty and Veronica Friends Forever At The Movies #1. Those first 299 reasons are the price, if you pay in pennies. Even if you pay in paper money or charge it this is still a great all age comic book for kids, mainly girls, aged 6 and up. This is classic Betty and Veronica, drawn in the style that parents will recall from back in the day. In this new series our two favorite girls from Riverdale either go to the movie or have stories about them in famous movies. Either way, this is a great price point and a classic title for young readers to get the book bug by.  All age comic books for April 11 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:18

Happy new comic book day, each Wednesday dozens of new comic books are delivered to your local comic book store. In that delivery there are dozens of all age comic books that are great for young readers. Each week we’ll list all of those that are good for readers and dive down a bit deeper on the podcast about a handful of the all age comic books or graphic novels that really stand out. For now, lets look at three Adventure Time Comics #22 If you have a reluctant reader 9 or older have them check out Adventure Time Comics. This free wheeling monthly series from Boom! Studios allows different artists the opportunity to write and draw Finn, Jake and all of the magical oddidites in Ooo. Casper and Wendy Let’s kick it old school with Casper and Wendy. American Mythology does a great job with their old school, retro properties like this one and The Pink Panther. They combine new stories and art-that looks like the real, classic deal, with some classic previously released stories or strips. Casper and Wendy #1 presents Casper meeting the friendly witch in red for the first time in this all age comic book that will be great for kids 5 and up. Secondhand Heroes: The Last Battle Secondhand Heroes: The Last Battle is the third and final book in the series by Justin Larsen Hansen. This is an original graphic novel series that ages 9 and up will enjoy as its packed with action, great character development, cool monsters and kids with superpowers. Even though the kids have superpowers, they are rooted in real-life and any age reader will appreciate them. Their powers have consequences, to quote a certain webslinger and this finale is one that upper elementary and older will like reading. One aspect that makes this graphic novel stand out is its art, which is hand drawn and then painted with watercolor, giving the book an earnest, loved appearance, with monsters and superpowers.   Humor document.write(decodeURIComponent('%3Cscript%3E(function%20(htm)%7B%0D%0Afunction%20%24id()%7B%0D%0Avar%20id%3D%27ShareASale-%27%2BMath.random().toString(36).substr(2).toUpperCase()%3B%0D%0Areturn%20document.getElementById(id)%3F%24id()%3Aid%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0Avar%20ifr%2Cdoc%2Cid%20%3D%20%24id()%3B%0D%0Adocument.write(%27%3Ciframe%20id%3D%22%27%2Bid%2B%27%22%20src%3D%22about%3Ablank%22%20scrolling%3D%22no%22%20style%3D%22border%3A0%3Boverflow%3Ahidden%3Bbackground%3Atransparent%3Bwidth%3A100%25%3B%22%3E%3C%2Fiframe%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Aifr%20%3D%20document.getElementById(id)%3B%0D%0Adoc%20%3D%20ifr.contentDocument%7C%7Cifr.contentWindow.document%3B%0D%0Adoc.open()%3B%0D%0Adoc.write(%27%3C!DOCTYPE%20html%3E%3Chtml%3E%3Cmeta%20charset%3D%22UTF-8%22%3E%3Cbody%20style%3D%22height%3A100%25%3Bmargin%3A0%3Bpadding%3A0%3Bfont-family%3Asans-serif%3Bfont-size%3A12pt%3B%22%3E%27%2Bhtm%2B%27%3C%2Fbody%3E%3C%2Fhtml%3E%27)%3B%0D%0Adoc.close()%3B%0D%0Awindow.setTimeout((%0D%0Afunction(I%2CD)%7B%0D%0Avar%20s%3D%20I.style%2C%20%0D%0Ab%20%3D%20doc.body%3B%0D%0As.width%20%3D%20b.scrollWidth%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0As.height%20%3D%20b.scrollHeight%20%2B%20%27px%27%3B%0D%0A%7D%0D%0A).bind(null%2C%20ifr%2C%20doc)%2C200)%3B%0D%0A%7D)(decodeURIComponent(%27%253Ca%2520target%253D%2522_blank%2522%2520href%253D%2522https%253A%252F%252Fshareasale.com%252Fm-pr.cfm%253Fmerchantid%253D8908%2526amp%253Buserid%253D1034575%2526amp%253Bproductid%253D765718612%2526amp%253Bafftrack%253D%2522%2520style%253D%2522display%253Ainline-block%253Bborder-radius%253A2em%253Bborder%253A2pt%2520dashed%2520%252399E%253Bbackground%253Awhite%253Btext-decoration%253Anone%253B%2522%253E%253Ctable%2520style%253D%2522border-collapse%253Acollapse%253Bborder%253A0%253Bwidth%253Aauto%253Btext-align%253Aleft%253B%2522%253E%253Ctbody%253E%253Ctr%253E%253Ctd%2520style%253D%2522vertical-align%253Atop%253Bpadding...

All age comic books for April 4 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:07

Happy New Comic Book Day, that’s #NCBD if you’re sharing it on social media. There are lots of cool new all age comic books out this week. Over in the podcast we’ll chat about a fun Disney PIXAR one-shot comic book, Scarlett Hart: Monster Hunter, an original novel featuring The Flash, a $1 comic that’ll hook middle school students on The Avengers and a non-fiction book that’s part of a series that will make kids want to learn a variety of subjects. First off though, let’s look at three all age comic books or graphic novels that kids as young as 5. Disney Princess #19 Paging all young girls who want to read about their favorite Disney Princesses, this one is for you. Disney Princess is from Joe Books and features short stories from a variety of princesses who are in the Disney universe. Think of a princess and she’ll be in this comic book at some point. In issue #19 Belle directs a play, Cinderella gets locked out and Rapunzel’s geology skills might be challenged. This is goofy fun for kids 5 and up. Mech Cadet Yu #8 If you’re looking for a great, new comic book that readers 7 and up will enjoy look for farther than Mech Cadet Yu. This is the trendy and possibly overplayed premise of kids-inside-a-giant-robot, but this is one of those all age comic books that work. The action is fun and age appropriate. The vocabulary is OK for kids in second grade and older. It’s a comic book that’s fine for younger readers, but older kids will want to read it because it’s cool. Star Wars: A New Hope-The 40th Anniversary Hardcover Ok, 40 years-really? Star Wars: A New Hope-The 40th Anniversary Hardcover is an updated version of Marvel Comics retelling of the first Star Wars story. This is not the innocent, smaller framed Luke Skywalker. This is the new Luke who is more action figure and in tune with what kids expect from their comic books today. This graphic novel is $27.99, but is a collection of all age comic books that will be OK for kids 9 and up. Have they seen A New Hope? Then they’ll be OK with this collection of comic books.  All age comic books for March 21 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:34

Each new comic book day (every Wednesday) there are dozens of new all age comic books. In that all age section most of them will be appropriate for ages 7 and up. Some of them will be OK for younger audiences and we’ll also include some tween titles that fly below the radar, but will be enjoyable for middle school and up. If any of the titles seem too old, too young or otherwise ‘stick out’, that’s the reason why we listed them here. Case in point, True Believers: Venom Flashpoint is not  appropriate for 7 year readers, however, kids who are 11 and up will love the action and the content will be OK. Plus its price point is only $1.00, so parents will like it too. In the podcast this week we’ll chat about Usagi Yojimbo (and why each issue of this comics book is great for 7 and up), a new graphic novel y Phoebe and the Unicorn, Ms. Marvel and Pearls Before Swine’s new book, Floundering Fathers and more. For now though, here are three cool all age comic books that will entertain a wide range of young readers. Super Sons # 14 Batman has a son. Superman has a son. The two kids become friends and fight evil, meet some of their father’s villains, as well as their offspring. If you have an upper elementary aged kid or older they’ll enjoy this monthly series. There is enough real action for them to enjoy, without it crossing over to the level of violence that parents might not want kids seeing in the monthly Batman or Superman series. That, plus Super Sons also has more things for young readers to take away or …learn from. You don’t read comics to learn, per se, but as Damian and Superboy become friends, they learn about things that even non-super, regular kids can relate to. Jim Henson Storyteller Fairies Fairies are back-with a vengeance. Jim Henson Storyteller Fairies #4 of 4 tells the story about fairies and a mortal who has been chosen to live with them. Colored in a sepia fashion and drawn realistically, the final issue in Storyteller Fairies is full of metaphor and life lessons. It’s also beautiful and very easy to enjoy. This is more of an older comic book, but one that can be enjoyed by those in middle school and up, if those readers are prepared for more of a comic book, as art form. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, #64 Most little girls (and some boys) go through a My Little Pony phase. For some girls that phase is longer than others and issue 64 of My Little Pony is out from IDW Publishing is evidence of that. This comic book is well written, brightly colored and the classic stuff that will entice reluctant readers, engage the story time crowd, as well as those slightly older kids that want to read it to themselves. For the record, our oldest son did go through a period when he liked My Little Pony. It was when he was around 5 and we still have those comics in the house.  New all age comic books for March 14, 2018 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:30

It’s new comic book day and each Wednesday dozens of new all ages comics, in addition to those that are geared to older audiences hit stores. These are the comics that can be enjoyed by kids as young as 5 in some cases and we’ll provide age suggestions for some of them here in the post, as well as YouTube and Podcast version. Over there we’ll chat about How to Tame a Human Tornado, a new Peanuts collection, Big Nate, Rocko’s Modern Life and two comics that are so cool that they let different creators with different styles, take turns with their classic characters. For now, let’s look at three all ages comics or graphic novels that will entertain readers as young as 5, with some reading assistance of course. Big Nate Big Nate is back. Big Nate, Silent But Deadly is Lincoln Pierce’s 27th collection of stories about the classic kid that any kid (or adult) can relate to. I am a huge fan of folks that can create daily comic strips and still make them funny, day in and day out. Big Nate is near the top of that class in its ability to make you laugh, think, remember the way that you acted in sixth grade and smile. The emotions for Big Nate range from laugh out loud funny, to knowing someone like a character in the comic strip to learning how to effectively handle your emotions. Big Nate, Silent But Deadly is all color, with a pull out poster and has collected comic strips that anyone 7 will love. New Shoes Based on its description this is not a graphic novel that I would like. A shoemaker donkey in a South American village who uses only the best materials has to go out to the forest to locate supplies for some shoes. The client in this case is Miss Manatee, Francis’ favorite singer so it’s a job that he wants to do really well. Along the way they meet some friends, have fun, learn about animals and a couple lessons too. New Shoes is too difficult for a 5 year old to read it, but they’ll love looking at the big, bright colors and will laugh at the story. Older audiences (like me….) will be disarmed by the amiable charm and feelings of love and comfort that plot out of the book the moment it’s opened. Cosmo An original all ages comic book is tough to find. There are the classics and those other properties that are fun for young readers, but never found a niche. Cosmo was launched in the late 50’s, using the name Cosmo The Merry Martian. That title would seem too odd in today’s vernacular, so Archie Comics simply brought back Cosmo. Cosmo has enough outer space action and creative fun for readers as young as 6 to enjoy without parents having any concern about its content.  All ages comics for February 28 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:27

It’s new comic book day and it really is a great week for some new all ages comics. Over in the podcast and YouTube version we’ll talk about a great monthly comic book from Marvel Comics that’s just bee approved for a new Disney animated television series, Stinky Cecil, Bunny Vs. Monkey, a one-shot special from The Pink Panther and The Inspector and more. For now though, let’s look at three all ages comics that will appeal to different audiences, but can also thoroughly entertain anybody who is open to them. Pink Panther vs. the Inspector When I was a kid I enjoyed reading Pink Panther comics. It’s comfort food that our oldest has enjoyed reading the new all ages comics with new stories from American Mythology Productions. Now, Pink Panther vs. The Inspector gives this cat and mouse duo their own one-shot special to celebrate clever pink cats and inept detectives. Sparks Princess is a baby, who is actually an alien from another world is intent on taking over the world. August and Charlie are two cats who are thought of as lazy and beneath everything else.
