Summary: Being a Student of the Gun is not about being a novice or beginner. Student of the Gun represents a life’s journey of education, enlightenment and the enjoyment of firearms. Each week Student of the Gun will introduce our listeners to all manner of firearms related topics be they sport, recreation or personal defense. Unlike the television format, through the magic of digital radio, we will have the opportunity to explore topics more deeply rather than just give them a quick glance. Discussions will address both that which is current news in the firearms world as well as traditions and foundational principles. Student of the Gun, a beginner once, a student for life.

SOTG 188 – NRA Attacked by False Prophet in Chicago | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:49

During SWAT Fuel Fitness talk we discuss kettlebells and the fear many of us have of trying new things. The TSA has dropped the ball yet again allowing 73 people on the Terrorist Watch List to have access to secured areas in our nation’s airports. Why are we paying them, again? A so-called Reverend, joined by race pimp Jesse Jackson and a member of the Brady Campaign, to protest the lawful sale of firearms in Chicago, Illinois. The man in question attacked the NRA in a public speech in front of Chuck’s Gun Shop and claimed they (NRA) would face God’s judgement for the dead children of Chicago. And yes, Paul spilled his coffee. SOURCES: SWAT Fuel Online tore: http://swatfuelstore.com/#_a_StudentOfTheGun (http://swatfuelstore.com/#_a_StudentOfTheGun) From www.nbcnews.com (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/tsa-fails-identify-73-employees-terror-watch-lists-n371601): "A new Department of Homeland Security Inspector General report found that the Transportation Security Administration failed to identify 73 aviation employees with active clearance badges with links to terrorism. The people, who were employed by major airlines, airport vendors and other employers, were not identified because TSA is not authorized to receive all terrorism-related information under current inter-agency policies, the report (https://www.oig.dhs.gov/assets/Mgmt/2015/OIG_15-98_Jun15.pdf)said. The agency's "multi-layered process to vet aviation workers for potential links to terrorism was generally effective. In addition to initially vetting every application for new credentials, TSA recurrently vetted aviation workers with access to secured areas of commercial airports every time the Consolidated Terrorist Watchlist was updated," the report found. "However, our testing showed that TSA did not identify 73 individuals with terrorism-related category codes because TSA is not authorized to receive all terrorism-related information under current interagency watchlisting policy." Further, the thousands of records used to vet employees contained such incomplete or inaccurate data as lacking a full first name or missing social security numbers. TSA ran into particular problems in the vetting process when potential aviation employees has not committed crimes and were legal resident or citizens. "Without complete and accurate information, TSA risks credentialing and providing unescorted access to secure airport areas for workers with potential to harm the nation's air transportation system," the report found. The report recommended that TSA "request additional watchlist data, require that airports improve verification of applicants' right to work, revoke credentials when the right to work expires, and improve the quality of vetting data." The TSA agreed with the recommendations." From www.breitbart.com (http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/06/06/rev-michael-pfleger-nra-will-pay-for-the-murder-of-chicago-children/): "On June 6, Reverend Michael Pfleger listed recent shootings in heavily gun-controlled Chicago then said the NRA “will pay pay for the murder of our children.” He was joined by Reverend Jesse Jackson and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence president Dan Gross. Pleger, Jackson, and Gross rallied outside of Chuck’s Gun Shop, where Jackson recently rallied for the ban of guns already banned in Chicago. Pleger began his speech at the rally by pointing out that ten persons were shot and three were killed on the night of June 5 alone. He then said, “I’m not a gun grabber, I’m a life lover,” after which he pointed to Chuck’s Gun Shop and said, “And I love life more than the death that they are perpetrating.” He continued: I’m just tired, tired of the NRA. Tired of them prostituting themselves and buying politicians in this country. I’m tired of gun manufacturers and John Riggio from Chuck’s making money off the blood running down our streets, and our children laying in cemeteries.

 SOTG 180 – More Crime, Less Guns | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:58

Break out the duct tape, the big government progressives are at it again. Confirming the definition of insanity, Little Rahmie Emanuel took to the microphones in Chicago to call for more gun control. Yes, the Mayor of Chicago doesn’t think they have enough laws. Not to be out done, the White House spokes-head called on Congress to enact more gun control laws to curb violence in, get this, Chicago, Baltimore and New York City. You can’t make this stuff up. SOURCES: From www.guns.com (http://www.guns.com/2015/03/23/bill-authorizing-10000-fines-for-no-guns-signs-passes-texas-senate/): "A proposal that won the approval of the Texas Senate last week could leave concealed carry permit holders in the Lone Star State with fewer “gun-free zones” — under threat of heavy fines. The measure, filed in January, would not only prohibit many state and local public buildings from barring lawful concealed carry, it would strip sovereign immunity from governmental bodies and officials who pursued such policies and allow them to be sued by gun owners for damages. It passed the Senate on March 18 by a large 26-5 margin on its third reading. “SB 273 protects citizens from improperly posted 30.06 signs used to coerce CHL holders into unnecessarily disarming on government property,” posted the legislation’s author, Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels, on her social media account. “Today I am pleased to announce it passed the Senate and is on its way to the House!” Campbell’s legislation, SB 273, would forbid a state or local agency or subdivision from posting signs restricting carry of concealed handguns by lawful permit holders. Those found in violation would face a fine of a minimum of $1,000 for the first incident and as much as $10,500 for subsequent violations. Government officials and agencies can be found liable for civil damages as well. The bill would allow some provisions for keeping gun-free zones in schools, polling places and courts as well as property under federal control, and private property, but would provide a method to strike those in almost all other areas. Officially opposing the measure are the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas, the Texas Association of Counties and the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas. Supporting the measure are gun rights groups to include the National Rifle Association, Texas State Rifle Association and Open Carry Texas. The state Legislative Budget Board found earlier this month in an analysis of the bill that it was likely to cause no significant financial impact to the state government and any fines collected because of the law would be credited to the Victims of Crime Fund. According to the website for the fund, it provides victims of violent crime financial assistance for crime-related expenses that cannot be reimbursed by insurance or other sources. In 2013, Kansas passed a broadly similar measure that allows CCW permit holders to carry concealed firearms into most government buildings which was later clarified to include some polling places. The Texas bill now heads to the Republican-controlled House and if it were successful there would land on the desk of Gov. Gregg Abbott (R), a former state attorney general who has vowed to sign pro-gun legislation." From www.guns.com (http://www.guns.com/2015/05/27/texas-campus-carry-bill-slides-through-just-under-deadline/): "House Republicans snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for a measure that would bring lawful concealed carry to college and university campuses in the Lone Star State late Tuesday. In a vote just minutes before a midnight session deadline, lawmakers in the Texas State House agreed by a101-47 vote to pass a Senate bill to allow campus carry. Originally introduced with the blessing of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in January, the measure passed the state Senate by a 20-11 Republican-led vote in March. House Democrats, citing safety concerns,

SOTG 176 – Court Rules Firearm Possession is Not Probable Cause for Detention | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:17

Hold on to your hats, two separate courts ruled in favor of gun owners and firearms possession. The first case has to do with open carry and whether or not the lawful possession of a firearm is probable cause for detention. Case number two is a bit more complex as it deals not so much with firearms possession under the 2nd Amendment, but guns as property under the 4th Amendment. Jarrad has a new song to introduce to everyone as well. SOURCES: From www.toledoblade.com (http://www.toledoblade.com/Courts/2015/05/14/Detention-of-person-carrying-gun-illegal.html): "A Toledo man can sue a city police officer for detaining him illegally in 2010 for openly carrying a semiautomatic handgun in his neighborhood, a federal appeals court ruled on Wednesday. The three-judge panel of the Cincinnati-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, however, threw out similar allegations made against a second officer who, the court found, had acted in good faith based on what he’d been told by the officer who was on the scene. “The Fourth Amendment no doubt permitted [Officer David] Bright to approach [Shawn] Northrup and to ask him questions,” Circuit Judge Jeffrey Sutton wrote. “But that is not what he did. He relied on these facts to stop Northrup, disarm him, and handcuff him. “Ohio law permits the open carry of firearms …, and thus permitted Northrup to do exactly what he was doing,” Judge Sutton wrote. “While the dispatcher and motorcyclist may not have known the details of Ohio’s open-carry firearm law, the police officer had no basis for such uncertainty.” On June 16, 2010, Shawn and Denise Northrup were walking down Rochelle Road in their neighborhood with their Yorkshire terrier on a leash when a passing motorcyclist challenged Mr. Northrup for openly carrying the handgun in a holster next to his cell phone. The motorcyclist called 911. Upon his arrival at the scene, Officer Bright told Mr. Northrup to hand the dog’s leash to his wife, which he did. The officer said Mr. Northrup removed his cell phone and then moved his hand back toward the gun where the phone had been, which the officer saw as a “furtive movement.” Mr. Northrup said he removed his phone to record the interaction. He kept asking questions rather than comply with the officer’s demand that he turn around and raise his hands above his head. He provided his driver’s license upon demand, but he told the officer to look up his concealed-carry permit himself. The officer took the gun and put Mr. Northrup in the squad car under suspicion that he was “inducing panic.” The officer learned Mr. Northrup had a valid concealed-carry permit. Half an hour later, Sgt. Daniel Ray arrived at the scene. Mr. Northrup was released with a citation for “failing to disclose personal information,” a charge that was later dropped. “They filed trumped-up charges because they made a mistake,” said Mr. Northrup’s Sylvania attorney, Daniel T. Ellis. He said Toledo has not been alone in how cities treat open carry. “Columbus is very restrictive,” he said. “Cleveland is kind of restrictive. Cincinnati is restrictive. I think Toledo is getting better. Police officers do not want people to carry firearms. They seem not to want to abide by the Constitution that allows people to do so.” Mr. Northrup sued the officers and other representatives of Toledo police, arguing that they violated his rights under the U.S. Constitution and Ohio law. A U.S. District Court judge in Toledo granted the officers’ motions to throw out some of the charges against him while allowing some to proceed. Mr. Northrup appealed. Wednesday’s ruling agreed and disagreed with portions of the lower court’s decision. The 6th Circuit threw out all allegations against Sergeant Ray, determining he was entitled to qualified immunity because he had acted based on what Officer Bright had told him. Adam Loukx, Toledo’s law director, declined to comment on the case because it’s still pending.

 SOTG 174 – Stop! Hammertime | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:10

A hammer-wielding monster took to the streets of New York to randomly attack people with the deadly instrument. When two NYPD officers spotted the man he turned on them. We have a Go Team dedication to hand out. A clerk at a Mississippi Bass Pro shop gives us a lesson in how not to clear a handgun. And, we have yet another public school psychological terror update that centers around the display of the American flag. SOURCES: From defendandcarry.com (http://defendandcarry.com/clerk-almost-loses-hand-because-customer-forgot-to-unload-his-gun/): "Gunfire erupted inside the Bass Pro Shop in Pearl Monday. The employee was injured but not shot when he was handling a weapon without knowing it was loaded. Company officials tell us their safety procedures prevented the incident from being worse. Songwriter Fordie Hays was meeting a friend inside Bass Pro Shop in Pearl when about a foot away from him a handgun discharged. He says an employee was checking a small automatic 380 pistol in a ballistics safety tube to see if it was loaded. A bullet was in the chamber. “I think the guy at first thought he had shot his hand because it just beat it up pretty good,” said Hays. “It was just blood and he kinda turned pale white.” The 27-year-old said tragedy was avoided because of the safety precautions the worker took. “He did all that and the slide on the gun when he cocked it back the slide when it did go off cause there was still a bullet in it,” said the shocked witness. “And when it did go off that parts what cut his hand real bad.” Bass Pro shop General Manager Pat Renegar said a customer brought in a firearm to be fitted with a laser and while the Greeter was going through the safety procedure the incident happened. Chalk this one up to careless gun owner trying to be tacticool. First off, if you don’t know enough to check the chamber and making sure it is empty before handing off to a store clerk, perhaps you shouldn’t be getting a laser sight on your handgun. Maybe spend a few more days at the range improving your shot naturally, but also learning to load and unload you handgun safely and effectively. It is a good thing Bass Pro Shop takes the extra precaution of placing firearms in ballistic safety tube, or this poor store employee could have lost a hand or much worse. Remember folks, there are only a few rules to gun safety and most of them boil down to being cautious and not irresponsible. It is not rocket science, in fact the rules to gun safety are very simple. Fortunately for the gun owner, the police are not pressing any charges and ruling this an accidental discharge."  SOTG 172 – What does “Legally Armed Citizen” mean? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:57

South Carolina is one step closer to adopting “Permitless Concealed Carry.” A bill altering the existing permit laws is soon to be headed to the Governor’s desk. Gov. Nikki Haley has stated that she welcomes the legislation. What exactly does “Legally Armed Citizen” mean? Professor Paul examines that phraseology and breaks it down. You will walk away from this episode with a completely different understanding of what it means to be a Citizen. SOURCES: From www.ammoland.com (http://www.ammoland.com/2015/05/south-carolina-permitless-carry-passes-house-90-18/?utm_source=Ammoland+Subscribers&utm_campaign=291dfda38e-Monday_Morning_Email&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_6f6fac3eaa-291dfda38e-7174757#axzz3ZqCpkcnB): Kansas recently passed legislation making it the sixth state to have constitutional carry (where people who may legally own guns have the right to carry them openly or concealed). Mississippi passed a bill characterized as 90% constitutional carry, and a bill is pending in Maine that has majority support in the legislature, and likely support of the governor. The South Carolina bill, H3025, recently passed the second read in the South Carolina House, 90-18. It still has to pass a third read, but amendments on the third read are required to be unanimous. From the facebook page of one of the legislators who authored the amendment: Please join me in saying thank you to the 90 members of the South Carolina House of Representatives who today, by a vote of 90 to 18, gave second reading to the Clemmons, Yow, Hixon South Carolina Second Amendment Empowerment Act (H3025), with an amendment by Rep Mike Pitts and myself to authorize permitless concealed carry by every South Carolinian who can legally purchase a handgun! The bill, as now amended, allows SC CWP holders to carry in 27 states (instead of the current 20) Including GA and opens the door to recognizing every state’s CWP. Additionally, the amendment authorizes every law abiding South Carolinian who can legally purchase a firearm, to carry it concealed without a permit! The bill awaits third reading in the House next Tuesday and then passes to the Senate for consideration. Thank you to every member of the SC House who supports the Second Amendment! This is a permitless carry bill instead of a constitutional carry bill, because it would allow concealed carry without a permit, but not open carry. The bill also expands reciprocity to all other states’ concealed carry permits. South Carolina is one of only six states that prohibit open carry. It is likely that Texas will be removed from that short list this year. From the bill: (A) It is unlawful for anyone to carry about the person any handgun, whether concealed or not, except as follows, unless otherwise specifically prohibited by law: with the intent to use the handgun unlawfully against another person. The intent to use a handgun unlawfully against another person shall not be inferred from the mere possession, carrying, or concealment of the handgun, whether it is loaded or unloaded. (B) No person shall carry a handgun off of any real property the person occupies as a resident, owner, or lessee if the person is under twenty-one years of age or carries the handgun in a manner that openly exposes it to common observation, with the following exceptions: Governor Haley said that she would sign a constitutional carry bill, so she would presumably sign a partial reform such as this one. From a thestate.com: COLUMBIA, SC — S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley said Tuesday that she backs a proposal that would make it legal for most South Carolinians to carry guns – concealed or in the open – without a permit or the training that the state currently requires. It is unknown if the bill will be able to survive legislative gymnastics in the Senate. Constitutional carry has been introduced in previous years by State Senator Lee Bright, R-Spartanburg, but has been killed in committee, then, and this year,

Don’t expect the 6 o’clock news to report it, but a man carrying a concealed pistol may have stopped a mass murder in Houston, Texas last week. This, of course, is counter to what our favorite sandwich makers have said. We have even more instances of public school psychological terrorism, sadly, from Texas and, not surprisingly, from Minnesota. After the massacre of more than 100 children by Muslim terrorists at a school in Pakistan, there is a call to arm teachers. You might be surprised at those in favor and those opposed to this step.
