After a two game winning streak, the Bengals find themselves at 4-2 on the year, in first place in the AFC North, currently the 3rd seed in the AFC, only one game behind New England and only two games behind the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. I'd say that's a pretty good position to be in after 6 games. Now the Bengals head to Detroit to take on a feisty Lions team who are also 4-2 on the year and have an offense that can move the ball among the best in the league, but can their defense hold up? The defense once again found themselves shaking their heads as relatively unknown quarterback Thad Lewis moved the ball and was able to erase a 14 point deficit in the 4th quarter allowing the Bills to get to overtime. What an awesome game on Sunday, though it was very low scoring, the drama couldn't have written itself any better. In the driving torrential rains, Kevin Huber launches a HUGE punt that pushes Julian Edelman back, making the Patriots field just THAT much longer to move down the field to try and get the tying score. Despite two boneheaded 4th down plays to allow the Patriots drive to continue, Adam Jones came up big when we needed it most by intercepting one of the best quarterbacks to play the game. Ballgame, 3-2 thank you and now lets prepare for banged up Buffalo, a team in which the Bengals have struggled mightily against. It was not a good weekend for Cincinnati sports that's for sure. The Reds lost 4 straight to the Pirates to bow out badly in the MLB Playoffs. The Bengals played a stinker of a game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Nothing, NOTHING, went the Bengals way on Sunday. All aspects of the Bengals TEAM performed poorly on Sunday. The play, the play calling, the coaching, you name it, it was bad. But if there is a bright spot, the 4-0 New England Patriots come to town this week to take on the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. So on Sunday the Bengals jumped out to a 14-0 lead, then watched the Green Bay Packers score thirty, yes, 30 straight points. Miraculously the Bengals managed to score 20 more unanswered points to walk out of Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday with a 34-30 win. A win that honestly came down to a Marvin Lewis red challenge flag. Yeah, I'm still amazed myself. He almost NEVER wins these challenges. Fate was on the Bengals side on Sunday and the rest was history. In this week's show: Anthony leads off the show saying that the game on Sunday versus the Packers goes down as one of the best games in the Marvin Lewis era, it also goes down as one of the most bizarre in NFL history. The defense kept the Bengals in the game. When the offense turned the ball over on 4 straight possessions in the first half, Green Bay only managed 9 points on short fields against this tenacious defense. The Bengals did something on Monday night they've only done once in the Marvin Lewis era. They beat Pittsburgh at Paul Brown Stadium. The year? 2009. The same year Hard Knocks was in camp, the same year the Bengals swept the AFC North, and oh by the way, the same year they beat down the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau Field. So the Bengals lost their first preseason game of the year 24-18 against the Cowboys. Yes, they lost a preseason game that that has no bearing whatsoever on their regular season record. The Bengals are 2-0 this preseason, take that for what you will, but wins are wins and it's never bad to rack those up. The first team offense has done some things moving the ball even without All-Pro WR AJ Green seeing a minute of action. That will change this Saturday when the Bengals take on the Cowboys in Dallas. The Cincinnati Bengals will wrap up Training Camp 2013 on Thursday as they continue to prepare for their upcoming preseason home opener against the Tennessee Titans. Today the Bengals announced that star WR AJ Green is 100% healthy and is looking to see game action next week in Dallas. Andrew Whitworth continues to make progress as well and hopes to also make an appearance next week. The Bengals came out rather unscathed last week in Atlanta (thank goodness) and put on quite a show in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
