Me trying to improvise on Tom Dooley. Any critiques welcome.
Me practicing in improvisation on a tuning a friend taught me that I tweaked a bit.
Re-learned for the TOTW, 9/21/18. When Carolyn (the presenter for Quince Dillon's High D) introduced me to the tune a while back I was trying to do everything with 3-finger picks and without re-tuning. Now I'm back to good old clawhammer re-tuning mode and my short scale Carolina Banjo made it even easier to hit the high D at the 10th fret when tuned to double D tuning.
Tunaday #96 - In G Modal-f (fDGCD).
Irish reel played in double D tuning on new 12" open back

This week's TOTW has two versions to choose from -- Wade Ward, who I've heard of, and Dent Wimmer, who I haven't. So I found a Dent Wimmer version of Half Shaved in f#DEAD tuning. What a neat sound it has, though I wonder if the title is related to Shaving a Dead Man....
Wade Ward's version of "Half Shaved", banjo tuned to g#EF#BE...
Dent Wimmer's version of "Half Shaved" banjo tuned eC#F#BE
CH take of Trad Reel. D tuning. Wildwood
Trying my hand at two-finger oldtime style.
A tune my fiddler showed me at our last rehearsal. Can't get it out of my head at the moment.
Shakin' Down the Acorns
For the old-time TOTW, 9/7/18, Shaking Off the Acorns comes from the playing of West Virginian fiddler Edden Hammons, who would have been 113 years old today. Most everybody else records it as Shaking Down the Acorns and it's definitely one of my favorite tunes of all time. It's modal and the first part has 12 measures with three 4-measure phrases.
