I?ve been trying to improve my downpicking/clawhammer technique as of late, as well as learn songs without using tab. I want to improve my rhythm and drive. Here is my attempt at a classic, John Henry.

For the old-time Tune of the Week, 10/19/18, here's a medley from two source recordings, West Virginian fiddlers Ralph Roberts and Bobby Taylor. The versions are different, yet similar, and I like how they went together.

My grandma sung this for me once. She's not quite from the Red River Valley but pretty close.

I used to fancy this girl who played the fiddle. The various tracks don't line up perfectly on this song, but hey I still like it.
