Played thumb-lead two-finger style on a 1960s Paramount reso-tone. Key of G, tuned to gDGCD (sawmill tuning). TOTW for 27 July 2018
Lew Hendrix' banjo duet inspired me to try Early Times with a cello banjo accompaniment on this current Tune of the Week for 10/12/18. (Previously I accidentally posted the original Ben Winship mandolin learning recording, sorry.)
Played on a "Frankenstein" 5 string open back with skin head in double C tuning.
Early Times--double banjos
My cousin?s granddaughter has Down?s Syndrome and a couple of years ago was diagnosed with Leukemia, which is not uncommon for such children. After a grueling treatment regimen she went into remission status and when asked what she wished to do to celebrate, she wanted to have a big family party to mark the occasion along with her fourth birthday. I went to the party and promised her mom and dad that I?d compose a tune in her honor, and this is what I came up with.
Wildwood Flower in G. First crack at overdubbing. Open Back banjo with nylon strings, bari uke, shaker, and then some. Enjoy.
For the old-time Tune of the Week, 10-5-18, "Git Up in De Morning" is in Thomas Brigg's 1855 Banjo Instruction book. I arranged it for clawhammer style from Joe Weidlich's minstrel tab. It's said that Bill Whitlock learned this in 1839 from Joel Sweeney himself. I hear Blue Tail Fly. There are lyrics, too, and we can hear them in the discussion thread link by BHO member Tim Twiss.
Tunaday #30 - In Sawmill - (gDGCD). A few weeks ago JanetB posted a medley of Possum tunes and I mentioned I was gonna have to come up with a possum tune one of these days. Here it is.
added a li'l extra... on the suggestion of my recent friend strumn1...
Hi I quickly recorded one of my favorite songs. Guilderoy. I wanted to see how my focusrite worked, I did not apply any effects, only the banjo played on 2 tracks. And of course the guitar. Many listening pleasure, and suggestions are always welcome, both positive and negative reaction I like to hear, so that I can improve myself.
For the Tune of the Week, 9/28/18, Pretty Polly is an old, old song with other titles and many lyrics. I listened to Ralph Stanley with Patty Loveless and to Abigail Washburn with Bela Fleck's banjo, so this arrangement modulates in sawmill tuning as I imagine Willie and Polly having their depressing conversation.
I haven't played clawhammer in a while, but I decided to give this Tune of the Week (thanks to Janet B's wonderful tab) a try.
Tunaday #268. Didn't have a name for this so since today is the beginning of my 70th year, why not. A neat little tuning - g#BEBE - known as Dead Man's" E-tuning. Hope the tuning name has nothing to do with life expectancy; I'd like to hang around on this rock a bit longer.
Heres a take of a very cool tune in an odd tuning. For the totw
Quince Dillon's High D Tune
