I'll Fly Away on my open back banjo
Western Country on my open back banjo
This tune comes from Owen "Snake" Chapman, from his "Up In Chapman's Hollow" album (Rounder Records). I wish I could finger pick it like Paul Smith--maybe some day. But it is pretty fun for clawhammer style too. There are a lot more notes in the fiddle melody, so this is my banjo version of the tune. Banjo (Enoch Dobson with 11" rim) is tuned in Double D (aDADE).
A short recording with clawhammer banjo and backing guitar. Tune of the month June in the Irish Trad section.
Reiter Galax sound sample.
Tunaday #14 - In Double C tuning (gCGCD).
I tried to create an Impression of what may have going on in Tom Dula's head after the Murder. I made it up on the Fly so I apologize for the Shakiness. The recording kind of gets into it around 20 seconds in. Feel free to offer advice on my technique or whatever. I hope you folks enjoy, Thanks!
Dodi Li/Dorie ... a song from Dave Guard and the Kingston Trio......’By the firelight, come and dance with me’.....
The O'Reilly's of 17th century Ireland were amongst Turlough O'Carolan's supportive patrons as the blind harpist traveled far and wide. When O'Carolan wrote a tune in their honor it was given the label "planxty." Unable to play for several weeks due to my broken shoulder, I offer something recorded previously on my clawhammer banjo.
Three tunes played on my Bart Reiter Fretless Standard Banjo
Tunaday #210 - In Open D tuning with raised 5th (aDF#AD).
A very amateur sound clip of Deep Elem Blues, made more to demonstrate banjo sound than to show off any real playing skills.
Cuje Bertram version of Blackbird Says to the Crow with Paul kirk and Stephen Rapp at jam.
It has been about 2 months since I learned the tune and my band has been playing it. Here is a recording of how it has developed from this week's jam session at the house. 5 fiddlers, one guitar and one bass. No banjo as George is north for the summer avoiding the Tucson heat!
Here is the first time I got the tune. It is Andy Porter at the beginning and the rest of us coming in as we "get" it. Annie Trimble on guitar, me and Emmy T on fiddles.
