The FBI classifies them as a gang. Pop culture has a field day with ridiculing them. But Juggalos and Juggalettes (followers of the Detroit-based rap duo The Insane Clown Posse) aren't going away. In fact, each summer, The Gathering of the Juggalos takes place in rural Illinois, drawing crowds of 10,000 from all over the world. On this episode of the Here Be Monsters Podcast, Director Sean Dunne speaks of the bizzare culture of The Gathering where he found a system of mutual respect and "practicing what you preach" in every aspect from religious tolerance to settling bad drug deals. NOTE: this episode frankly discusses Juggaloism. Therefore, there's a lot of profanity in here. The Documentary that Sean Dunne directed is called American Juggalo and is available for free, online at http://americanjuggalo.com/ Also, Sean is currently working on a documentary about the Oxycontin abuse epidemic taking place in West Virginia. The film is called Oxyana: http://oxyana.com/ So, what is the the true nature of a Juggalo? Let us know what you think. Music this week from The Black Spot and Lucky Dragons. Andrea Seabrook has worked for National Public Radio covering politics since the time I was in middle school. That's why I was surprised this summer when I learned that she was quitting her job as NPR's Congressional Reporter out of frustration with a system that was rife with collusion, lies and stonewalling. On this episode, Andrea Seabrook talks about the true nature of Washington DC and explains the new podcast she's producing called DecodeDC -- http://www.decodeDC.com Music: http://theblackspot.bandcamp.com/ http://swampdog.bandcamp.com/ Track Image: Early photograph of United States Capitol circa 1846, by John Plumbe. Earlier this year, the files for the Red Star OS were leaked by a Russian exchange student studying in North Korea. In this Brief, we're going to take a look at the operating system--meant for use in what many consider to be the most isolated country on this planet. Being a nerd, I was curious to know what computers looked like in North Korea. What happens when you try to access blogs, facebook, or the Here Be Monsters homepage. So I downloaded and installed it, played some games, listened to old Here Be Monsters shows, surfed the web...you know. Here's the original article: http://www.openingupnorthkorea.com/archives/325 Here's a link to screenshots of the operating system: http://is.gd/HBMbrief004 Music: http://luckydragons.bandcamp.com/
