WiSP Amazons: Stacey Kozel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:29:28

American mountain climber and hiker Stacey Kozel, whose very effort of putting one foot in front of the other each day is in itself an accomplishment, is currently embarking on another epic adventure. What Stacey challenges herself with are the goals she sets herself to hike over miles of difficult terrain as she pursues some of the toughest country that make up the longest trails in the USA. Now 41, Stacey has suffered from Lupus—a chronic incurable inflammatory disease that attacks the immune system, since she was a teenager. It impacts her in different ways from her spine to her lungs and stomach and has resulted in her becoming a quadriplegic. Not that her complex medical condition has prevented her from living every day to the fullest. With the aid of an exoskeletal Stacey has hiked the 2,189 miles of the Appalachian Trial and has just begin to tackle the 2650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail of the U.S. from the Mexican to the Canadian borders. And she hikes alone, not wanting to slow down other hikers or try to keep up with them. Chris Stafford caught up with her in the mountains of Southern California.  Athlete Profile: Megan Campbell (IRE) Soccer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:26:53

Megan Campbell is an Ireland International and Manchester City defender she spent three years at Florida State University where she experienced very different conditions for women playing professional football. Last week she stood beside her team mates who challenged Ireland’s governing body to provide basic remuneration and resources to its national squad so they no longer had to share team kit such as a track suit or get changed in public restrooms.  Their campaign to stand their ground for equality comes at a time which saw the US Soccer and US Ice Hockey teams win their battles for better pay and conditions to gain more recognition for their commitment and contribution to their national team. Megan has previously played for St. Francis, Raheny United. In 2010 she was a member the Republic of Ireland U-17 squad that were runners-up at the 2010 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship and quarter-finalists at the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Megan was signed up my Manchester City in February 2016 and is currently rehabbing from an ankle injury at their football academy where she joins me from now.

 Walk Don’t Run: S1E4; Karen Burnett | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:30:59

Katie Burnett is a U.S. Team member and currently holds the U.S. 50k Race Walk Record.  After graduating high school in Arizona, she went from the race walk being “just another event” to her sport of choice. Katie got her start race walking the summer after 7th grade when she joined a club track team. Early success in the event convinced her to stick with it while pursuing other sports and events until she went to college to throw NCAA Division I javelin. Deciding that the school wasn’t a good fit, she transferred to William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. WPU is in the NAIA, which offers the race walk as a track and field event, so she returned to race walking. This change set her on the path that led to 6 NAIA All-American honors in the walk and 1 in the javelin. After college she continued to compete, moving up from the 3k and 5k at the college level to the 20k.  For more conversations from the world of women's sports visit us at www.wispsports.com, join us on social media @WiSP Sports and contact us at info@wispsports.com.
