Switzerland’s Tatjana Haenni is the former Deputy Director of the Competitions Division and the Head of Women’s Competition at FIFA - the international governing body for soccer. In that role she led the organisational aspects of all FIFA Women’s World Cups including the recent Women’s World Cup in Canada. Tatjana has dedicated her career to women’s football and advancing women in sport generally. She is also President of FC Zurich, a volunteer position that she is passionate about as she continues her work in the game. With many year's experience in sport’s leadership Tatjana has a clear vision of how and why women’s voices should be heard to increase representation in the board rooms of sport’s administration at all levels. Aparna worked in outdoor education and organized a project in Alaska called Expedition Denali to inspire diversity in the outdoors. She then teamed up with Eva Holliday who has a PhD in American Environmentalism, Equity and Inclusion to form The Avarna Group, which works with organizations such as the National Forest Service and the YMCA helping them with very specific tools, not just to talk about diversity, equity and inclusion but suggests what can be done to change their cultures from the ground up with the aim of getting a more diverse group of people outside. Retired Marine Corps Major Lisa Davis, has broken into the Guiness Book of Records by completing 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. She has become the fastest woman to complete the Triple 7 Quest and the first African American woman to ever complete the quest. On Jan. 31, 2017 she completed the challenge in a record time of 7 days, 30 minutes and 27 seconds. The previous best time for a woman completing seven marathons on seven continents was 10 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 40 seconds.  For Lisa this was a natural progression to her marathon career having already completed 100 marathons and counting.  The Triple 7 Quest began in Perth, Australia from there she went to Singapore (Asia), Cairo (Africa), Amsterdam (Europe), New York (North America), Chile (South America) with the final run in the White Continent Marathon in Antarctica. Sara Gross and Alyssa Godesky take a closer look at diversity in triathlon following the 2017 Triathlon Business International Conference at which Sara led a panel that included African American triathlete Sika Henry. To expand this important conversation Sika tells us more about her own experiences and ways the sport can work towards increasing diversity. Some suggestions are to encourage minorities in local clubs and create mentors for young people. Clearly the important thing for the sport is to better understand the issues facing minorities from learning to swim to hair care for women.
